The design is ugly. The problem with All electric Green Cars is the price! They start at 27k to 31k. My Corolla cost 6k. Now if Gas cost $4-gal, in one year (at 12,000-miles per year) that would be $1,464. So it would take over 14 years i.e; 14 x $1,464 = $20,496,
(Plus the 6k I paid for my corolla). For a total of = $26,496. So an Electric car will TAKE 14 + Years (minis the cost of charging it) to match a Gas car like Corolla. KEEP YOUR GAS Guzzling COROLLA!
@robertquentincobb Nice calculations there! I was curious about how advantageous an eletric car truly is. Although, I`m quite certain that the price of an All Eletric Green Car will drop, just a question of time...It is quite expensive now, because they are only starting to release them...
Also, there is a natural tendency that gas prices will continue soaring due to peak oil dynamics.
For people complaining about the lack of electrcity it would create, i have heard of special advances in the Geothermal energy industry where drilling will be so easy that you can do it even in inactive volcanic regions like Australia as they go deeper more quickly and easily. also, electrcity equipment is much more effeient in consuming less electricity as well.
Ok, just test drove it today and I gotta say, what an awsome car! Never much cared for the body style but it dosen't look quite as bad in person. It's a screamin little car with very sporty handling. Not all that "little" inside though, lots of room to stretch out. I brought my pro-oil anti-ev co-worker and he drove it too, he is now a fan. What more can you say. I will however wait and test the Ford Focus EV next year before picking between the two.
Asian chicks, are super hot. The car needs at least 200 mile stop and go with the air on range before I get one. If it had that, I would be the first to buy one.
@theartofluv I actually heard they didn't do this because it would do two things. First, it would take away some cabin area. Second, solar panels absorb quite a bit of heat, so it would make the cabin hotter in warm climates and therefore require more from the AC. Since the panels don't produce near enough to power the AC - it defeats the purpose sadly.
@SpecialAgentBob1234 I see, thank you for clarify. It's always bug me when they don't throw in all the options available that to save energy. I am thinking getting it next year.
@SpecialAgentBob1234 Its called winding the window down.. you people gosh cant every one be like us Australians... Knowing you guys you will research a fukn Fusion reactor or somthing just so that you can have more comfort, which will most likely end up destroying earth lolz
Less: war, national debt, health care issues(lower costs), car turnover(longer life), less auto mechanics(sorry), greater independence, noise pollution.
Their would be more: $ to invest in renewable energy sources, education, health care education, infrastructure.
I honestly get more then a little frustrated when people just can't see these basic benefits of dis-connecting from Oil. The demand is their!!!!!
Energy companies are the biggest scam ever. Energy is free. U can get it anywwere. Win, sun, friction, nuclear, waves, pression etc. Oil companies managed to make the world believe that they are the only solution for the world dependence. But in reality. THEY ARE THE ONLY PROBLEM.
Once that Nuclear is dangerous, Coal is poluent, Wind and Dams drastically change landscape and ecosystems, i guess the real solution is Solar production. Deserts are like imense gold mines. The potential for electrical production (and lower environmental impact ratio) is almost endless. Maybe there will be many Las Vegas in the future... Anyway, i am tired of oil based engines. Noisy, smelly, greassy poluent crap. It's technology for retards and cave mans.
@itgleb I guess there is no need to hear since it is so quiet. But there are videos with actual sound, although you still cant hear anything only the car's tires against the road. I heard they actually add sound so you know when it is on.
If the trend went to electric cars then the demand would go up then power companies would have a excuse to raise rates, then it would not be cost efficient.
I remember when people thought that CNG clean natural gas was the wave of the future but we don't see them around.
What are the odds of that? geothermal must power a tiny number of houses! and as for solar power, it takes decades to recoup your initial investment of installing the solar cells! what a rip off!! micro generation is a non starter we need industrial scale renewable energy and that's years away!
Or water tubines or wind tunnels or those big windmill fan things... or maybe even solar...if we're lucky maybe a couple of those different things working together?
@ZombieTech3000 It sometimes feels like the electric car has been just around the corner for nearly 20 years! its hard not to be cynical when nothing ever seems to happen! I hope you are right! in England most wind farms are killed by "nimbys"! and when it does finally happen energy bills will rocket because the energy companies will need to recoup their infrastructure investment.
@katakisLives actually, electric cars have been around longer than internal combustion engine cars. about the infra.many electric companies around the world are private and because so, they do as they please and save every penny they can just like medical institutions here in the u.s. hopefully their will be government to regulate them
@shechshire I know! I have seen pictures of them from the 1890's! the electric motor is even older than that! they need to reassure consumers that this car is here to stay and its not a flash in the pan! a massive waste of money!
@katakisLives but here in the u.s. a lot of people think that private liberty for companies that have societies interest in their hands is good. i think that will be a deterrent for countries like the u.s.
The reason why nothing has changed or happened with ANY technology that has to do with oil is because oil is a HUGE market with thousands of money hungry investors. Kind of ironic huh? Their technology is, advancing with everything else but for some reason anything involved with oil just stalls there.
@shechshire In the UK the domestic car market has mostly died, I heard they planned to open a factory making this car somewhere up north to aid in the economic recovery! there are a lot of tax breaks for electric cars, they don't even pay the London congestion charge, but uptake is still tiny!
Comparing a flammable fuel with a durable energy storage chemical that is 100% recyclable is illogical and Bolivia aren't even a major supplier of Lithium Carbonate.
Exxon and the Saudi's in general just happen to have bought up some of the best battery patents. Then sit on them and won't let anyone use the tech.
Hense why the few electric cars around that you can get your hands on, are either hideously expensive, or hugely impractical because they are limited by outdated battery technology.
@cavemanillustrations If our grid is powered by solar, wind there would a lot of down time. Would you like a black out when wind stopped blowing or storm or at night?
@cavemanillustrations Too bad Dubai doesnt supply the planet with that much oil. All we need to do is let profit run R&D and wait. Already solar is up to 18.9% efficiency and $1/watt. In the meantime, DRILL DRILL DRILL. It wont hurt a goddamned thing and there is ZERO habitat disruption these days.
By the way, where do you think that electricity comes from? Magic? No, a fossil-fuel coal-burning plant.

how much would it take to buy a generator to run a tv and how much money it would cost to buy a generatore to run an airconditioner unit.
i think this car needs this much electricity if i carry a genterator.

0-80% in 30 minutes. 50kw quick charger.
10cents per kwh
Costs around 25cents for that 4/5 charge. Not completely free, but hell of a lot cheaper.

12kg carbon per 160 km.
vs. 40kg per 160km for a regular car. (i used a mid-sized sedan for the calculation).
But it could be 0kg. Depends on your location. If you get it from nuclear for example.
