They dramatically changed Alicia's personality (they turned her into a tsundere - basically a crazy violent wacko) and the way the anime ends is very different to the game - the game ending is fantastic and shouldn't be messed with; but the anime totally screws it over. Best to steer clear imo.

I also bought it new when it was released in Europe and imported the Strategy Guide...if only darn Sega would release VC III in western Hemisphere my life would be nearly as perfect as it would be if VC 4 on the PS3 would happen.....
And I'd glad pay another $60 for ANOTHER PS3 game in the series.
I freaking BOUGHT a PSP just to play VC2 & VC3 (whenever it comes out).
And while the plot might be just a tad bit cliche, they made it work. Got to love it how SquareEnix spends $XX millions on FFXIII with movie-quality graphics and it's uber-complex plot is crap & totally forgettable. Then there's Sega & Valkyria Chronicles with a simple 'moving art/sketches' graphics, and a plot that you will. just. not. forget

The advent of flight as a weapon could open up aereal recon, strafing run and parachute insertion orders. I can see a sub-plot concerning Issara as well, what with her natural Valkyrian blood (cont.)

haven't played this game but I'm LOVING this theme. I've always been a fan of Hitoshi Sakimoto. There's just some kind of magic I feel in his every single composition. And for me, hearing his music is one of the best gifts life has offered me. :)

in my opinion, MGS4, Valkyria Chronicles and FFXIII have the best OST's on ps3, yes FFXIII. the game itself may not be how good FF used to be, but the soundtracks are incredible
and mgs4 well, the soundtracks for mgs4 are incredible too. like even better than most movie soundtracks, not surprising though. as the main composer for MGS4 is a student of Hans Zimmer : )

i tear up when i listen to this, favourite game of all time, i just got the 2nd yesterday too and this played in a recap of the 1st games ending and i shed a few tears. yeah sad i know but i fucking love valkyria chronicles.
If only VC sold more. Then VC2 could have been on the PS3. I'm just happy they made a sequel but it sucks most of us can't play it because we don't own PSPs.

Has it really been a whole year already. I still remember picking this game up at a store while queuing for a cheap miniature fridge at 6 am or something. No one else was really interested in the fridges it seems and there was next to no people besides me and my bro. At least got the game good times. Song still makes me nostalgia like crazy.
I think Hitoshi Sakimoto did a much better job composing this music than in FFXII, in this game the music adds emotion to the storyline, in ff12 i was dissapointed, there were some good tracks in FFXII don't get me wrong but the music in Valkyria Chronicles kicks ass!
I really think Hitoshi started out good for the first disk of FFXII's OST, but then got bogged down and we know how the rest went. True, he did have gems scattered like Eruyt Village, Place of the Gods, Battle for Freedom, Boss Battle, Esper Battle but overall, it got blurred together. I heard this soundtrack and was like, "The man's back." Some people say Hitoshi can't compose and that he's a hack - can a hack write something as emotive as this?
Valkyria Chronicles is a masterpiece. It deserves its place right up there with the most beautiful of novels and films, a generational and transformational game. Welkin, Alicia, Isara, Rosie, Largo... amazing characters, very few RPG games have touched me so. The gameplay, the storybook presentation, the watercolor feel, the soundtrack, all of it is just breathtaking.
This is one of my favorite games of all time and I've played tons of RPGs since the 90s. Beautiful presentation and graphics, innovative and fun gameplay, excellent narrative, characterization and attention to details... I can't say enough good things about Valkyria Chronicles and it's by far the most underappreciated game of this console generation.

Y'know, its' a real shame people have neglected Valkyria Chronicles. It really didn't deserve it, in fact, it was one of the few undiscovered gems on the PS3. It was a game that truly reinvented the Japense Role-Playing genre, and was the masterclass of the genre too. The game's anime look was bueatiful, and the plot actually made you care about Welkin, Alicia and everyone. Overall, as many people have said, a masterpeice. Gamers seriously need to look beyond the boundaries of COD and Halo.

Even my best friend who often detests JRPGs to their very core could find little to dislike in Valkyrica Chronicles. If you own a PS3, go to Amazon right now and order yourself a copy. Perhaps then Sega will decide to port the sequel to the PS3 like it deserves.
I finally picked up a ps3 over Christmas, and this game was one of the main reasons I wanted the system. I'd wanted to play it ever since it was first announced, and I'm happy to say that it has met and even exceeded the lofty expectations I had for it. I'm sad that I appear to be reaching the end. I've barely even touched the other ps3 games so far, hehe . . .

What I meant is that Sega is treating the Xbox 360 like an ASS compared how they treat the PlayStation 3, specially when most third parties treat both systems equally.

haven't played this game but I'm LOVING this theme. I've always been a fan of Hitoshi Sakimoto. There's just some kind of magic I feel in his every single composition. And for me, hearing his music is one of the best gifts life has offered me. :)

in my opinion, MGS4, Valkyria Chronicles and FFXIII have the best OST's on ps3, yes FFXIII. the game itself may not be how good FF used to be, but the soundtracks are incredible
and mgs4 well, the soundtracks for mgs4 are incredible too. like even better than most movie soundtracks, not surprising though. as the main composer for MGS4 is a student of Hans Zimmer : )

i tear up when i listen to this, favourite game of all time, i just got the 2nd yesterday too and this played in a recap of the 1st games ending and i shed a few tears. yeah sad i know but i fucking love valkyria chronicles.

Has it really been a whole year already. I still remember picking this game up at a store while queuing for a cheap miniature fridge at 6 am or something. No one else was really interested in the fridges it seems and there was next to no people besides me and my bro. At least got the game good times. Song still makes me nostalgia like crazy.

I think Hitoshi Sakimoto did a much better job composing this music than in FFXII, in this game the music adds emotion to the storyline, in ff12 i was dissapointed, there were some good tracks in FFXII don't get me wrong but the music in Valkyria Chronicles kicks ass!

I really think Hitoshi started out good for the first disk of FFXII's OST, but then got bogged down and we know how the rest went. True, he did have gems scattered like Eruyt Village, Place of the Gods, Battle for Freedom, Boss Battle, Esper Battle but overall, it got blurred together. I heard this soundtrack and was like, "The man's back." Some people say Hitoshi can't compose and that he's a hack - can a hack write something as emotive as this?

Valkyria Chronicles is a masterpiece. It deserves its place right up there with the most beautiful of novels and films, a generational and transformational game. Welkin, Alicia, Isara, Rosie, Largo... amazing characters, very few RPG games have touched me so. The gameplay, the storybook presentation, the watercolor feel, the soundtrack, all of it is just breathtaking.

This is one of my favorite games of all time and I've played tons of RPGs since the 90s. Beautiful presentation and graphics, innovative and fun gameplay, excellent narrative, characterization and attention to details... I can't say enough good things about Valkyria Chronicles and it's by far the most underappreciated game of this console generation.

Valkyria Chronicles became one of the reasons why I've always wanted the Playstation 3 system.Of course I have many other reasons.One is to watch the movie of Final Fantasy VII:Advent Children Complete.

Y'know, its' a real shame people have neglected Valkyria Chronicles. It really didn't deserve it, in fact, it was one of the few undiscovered gems on the PS3. It was a game that truly reinvented the Japense Role-Playing genre, and was the masterclass of the genre too. The game's anime look was bueatiful, and the plot actually made you care about Welkin, Alicia and everyone. Overall, as many people have said, a masterpeice. Gamers seriously need to look beyond the boundaries of COD and Halo.

Valkyrica Chronicles became one of my favorite games ever since I saw the trailer for it, and upon getting it for real this Christmas has gone on to become one of the crowns in my ever growing game collection. Even my best friend who often detests JRPGs to their very core could find little to dislike in Valkyrica Chronicles. If you own a PS3, go to Amazon right now and order yourself a copy. Perhaps then Sega will decide to port the sequel to the PS3 like it deserves.

I finally picked up a ps3 over Christmas, and this game was one of the main reasons I wanted the system. I'd wanted to play it ever since it was first announced, and I'm happy to say that it has met and even exceeded the lofty expectations I had for it. I'm sad that I appear to be reaching the end. I've barely even touched the other ps3 games so far, hehe . . .
I don't understand how it isn't in every ps3 owner's library. It really deserves to succeed.

@MaxlovesCartoons001 Problem is, too few non asian people like the art style. Also everyone is into first person shooters or mmorpgs these days. This is a turn based strategy, not many people like these today.
I love this game, i just hope VC won't die. PS3 is already missing VC2 cause VC1 only made something like 140k sales worldwide. Hope VC carries on, back on the ps3 when VC2 makes good sales.

Instead of allowing themselves the privilege to try new things and enjoy what they want, they give in to marketing and play the games that companies push. I'm not saying those are bad games, but there is more to gaming, and dare I say art, than just highly realistic graphics (never been a fan of realsim) and mindless killing. But that's just how it is.

@PsychoKrazyTime That is all very true KrazyTime, but I just remember when, back in the old days of the NES and SNES when gaming was never really about violence; it was about embracing oddities (like Mario) or new ideas and just... enjoying them for what they are. I just the selling point for games nowadays is just pessimism and violence, which I think is totally wrong. In the world, yup, theres a lot of wars, but, theres a lot good in the world than bad if you look hard enough...

I still greatly respect SEGA's history and unique character stable (everybody loves Sonic, Beat and all of them really), but SEGA really are managing a lot of their classic properties very poorly. There is an overall lack of direction in the company, I feel. I think that's why their consoles like the Sega Saturn flopped too.

Radiant Silvergun is one of the primary reasons I'd like to get that console, and it was on the 360 because the Japanese fanbase likes those games. @anupsanju Exclusives like Radiant Silvergun are because of Microsoft, not because of Sega. Radiant Silvergun for XBLA is being produced by Microsoft. And the game can be said about that "disguised Panzer Dragoon game" they announced yesterday, it's also a Microsoft produced game. But this other point, concerning first parties. What I meant is that Sega is treating the Xbox 360 like an ASS compared how they treat the PlayStation 3, specially when most third parties treat both systems equally.

@WeskerSega and BTW, when I say more American, I'm not trying to insinuate that noone buys Japanese games on the 360, but rather that SRPGs aren't exactly the type of games that are going to sell well or be easy to sell well. The same can be said of the PS3, but considering that console is trying to go for the broader appeal, I'd say it'd be a good fit.

On the other, I think it's finally starting to get the appreciation that it deserves. Not anywhere near that yet, but it's getting there. Who would have expected that it would have gotten 2 sequels? I think you're underestimating gamers, some have taste :). Personally speaking, this is my favorite game of the modern generation (and one of my favorites of all time.

The fact that there's a great game to be ruined in the first place is a sign that Sega's genius never died- it just went into hiding.
YES, back in the day they made all sorts of fuck ups, in marketing. But the games spoke for themselves. Sega has made some of the greatest games ever made.

The only problem you may encounter is finding a copy; you will probably have to purchase it online. SEGA was (and is still) dumb, and discontinued making copies of the game. :(
