@Lordisuckswangs I used to see Wesley around a lot. He took advantage of his size , and that people were intimidated by him. Roky does'nt go around head - butting people , or squeezing their arm , going "BUY MY CD !!!". Roky CAN sing , and write songs. He's one of the finest Singers , Lyricists and Songwriters in Rock'n'Roll. I find some of Wesley's songs to be funny , but , they only had diagnoses of Schizophrenia in common.
@houdinigirl22 How can you compare the two? I think Johnston was like 5 yrs. old when Roky was in the 13th Floor Elevators. Sure they are both from Austin and have a history of Mental Health illness. I just think of them both as great artists from Austin scene. Plus Johnston is quite an illustrator, a whole other talent. Don't hat girl. Just love it all!!!!
@happypatio Jack White must have said "Oh Fuck Yes" with almost every song he heard, that was ever recorded by the true legends of Rock & Roll. But Hey they say the greatest form of flattery is copying.
Roky is the Godfather of the "Third Coast" indie sound ..He ,Janis,& Johnny Winter & transplanted Texan Steve Miller , were gigging to appreciative audiences in San Fransisco at the beginnings & peak of Flower Power..SRV & Billy Gibbons, though of a different genre, were to break later, in the mid seventies.
all you ppl want this on an audio track, hit the record button that came with your audio thingamajig. easy. If you bootleg it send a few bucks to sumner and say thanks.
This makes me wonder when Roky Erickson gets to collect his royalties from Pink for ripping him off when she stole this melody for the chorus of her mega-hit "Trouble."
@Satyagrahaha shit youre right, it sounded familiar to me but i figured it must have been a tribute to some old rock n roll song. isnt it amazing that this song sounds awesome but pink sounds like someone fucking a monkey.
I taped this song off WDET 101.9 some years ago when they were playing some Roxy Erickson songs in celebration of his birthday. I love it, plus I love the 13th Floor Elevators and it's always worth it to hear him holler/whoop it up on a song! First time I've seen some actual filmed footage of his solo performances from the '80's-I also liked that "Philosophy" tune of his. Shame that such a talented guy let the drugs almost do him in, but he's better off now. I missed his Halloween gig in Detroit
Don't slander me! oh my my-ex-wives pals on facebook-I don't don't why-oh my my! That's why I cry! ~~~haha-yet somehow beautifully, this genius song makes it alllll better!!
Yeah, Roxy could--and still can, I guess---sing his ass off--he and his former band come from my birthplace of Houston and I love Southern rock bands and singers anyway---especially ones that can scream and holler like maniacs with an R&B/country/gospel influence---now that's what I'm talking about!
There actually certain programs you can download that can download youtube videos to your computer and turn them into MP3s. So you might be able to get it that way. You might want to look for one to do that.
@misconduckt I guess this one is from the vinyl album Openers, just google it, info at discogs. Acoustic and live from 85 and 79 (explosives).
For listening, pick up the tempfile or whatever from yr browsers cache, rename it .flv and then convert it to mp3 with freez flv to mp3 converter. Make it 350kbit with 44100.
@misconduckt It was. On a 5 Years Back (Italy) LP , with several other CableTV appearances , and some live stuff with The Explosives. iT WAS CALLED "Openers" , a bootleg that did'nt look or even sound like a bootleg. Freddie Krc recently compiled the Roky /Explosives live material , some of which appeared on 5 Years Back's "Casting The Runes " LP, ON A GREAT SOUNDING SET CALLED...."Hallowe'en".
the precious knowledge of those who know better, who know how strong music can be, thats why we watch roky not the shite that satisfies lesser souls...
i know what your saying neilus about how powerful music can be, but i dont feel that with roky like how you don't feel it with 'shite' but im sure those 'lesser souls' get a a cringe down their spine when they hear a song thats powerful to them. you aint hot shit dude!
