@Lordisuckswangs I used to see Wesley around a lot. He took advantage of his size , and that people were intimidated by him. Roky does'nt go around head - butting people , or squeezing their arm , going "BUY MY CD !!!". Roky CAN sing , and write songs. He's one of the finest Singers , Lyricists and Songwriters in Rock'n'Roll. I find some of Wesley's songs to be funny , but , they only had diagnoses of Schizophrenia in common.

@houdinigirl22 How can you compare the two? I think Johnston was like 5 yrs. old when Roky was in the 13th Floor Elevators. Sure they are both from Austin and have a history of Mental Health illness. I just think of them both as great artists from Austin scene. Plus Johnston is quite an illustrator, a whole other talent. Don't hat girl. Just love it all!!!!

Roky is the Godfather of the "Third Coast" indie sound ..He ,Janis,& Johnny Winter & transplanted Texan Steve Miller , were gigging to appreciative audiences in San Fransisco at the beginnings & peak of Flower Power..SRV & Billy Gibbons,though of a different genre, were to break later, in the mid seventies.

I taped this song off WDET 101.9 some years ago when they were playing some Roxy Erickson songs in celebration of his birthday. I love it, plus I love the 13th Floor Elevators and it's always worth it to hear him holler/whoop it up on a song! First time I've seen some actual filmed footage of his solo performances from the '80's-I also liked that "Philosophy" tune of his. Shame that such a talented guy let the drugs almost do him in, but he's better off now. I missed his Halloween gig in Detroit

For listening, pick up the tempfile or whatever from yr browsers cache, rename it .flv and then convert it to mp3 with freez flv to mp3 converter. Make it 350kbit with 44100.

Freddie Krc recently compiled the Roky /Explosives live material , some of which appeared on 5 Years Back's "Casting The Runes " LP, ON A GREAT SOUNDING SET CALLED...."Hallowe'en".
