The most is correct, but you don't grab your legs to roll yourself up! This exercise is designed to strengthen the abdomen and the stone spine. If you grab your leg, you will not get benefits :-)

a beginner should keep the knees bent , they wouldn't be able to do this straight legged without straining the back.,
