Her playing is exceptional, but her physical movement and stance is obnoxious. Stand up straight! Stop whirling around like you've just stepped off of a teacup ride and you're dizzy! XD
@LemonCake07 That's how a performer gets into his piece! With that sort of movement you are sort of treating your body as an extension of your instrument, and vice versa.
@Egmarclarinetista tone is air. To get good air, you need good support and air supply. The mouth, mouthpiece, reed, ligature, and clarinet shape that tone. So be sure to look into all those aspects to help your tone.
@averysensiblename the cadenza is optional. It is also improvised. In Martin Frost's performance he did a bigger cadenza. I heard Sharon's cadenza and it was pretty short. In the music you probably see a fermata over a note. Other composers have done as well, i.e. Carl Maria von Weber's Concertino and Concerto No. 1 from what I've seen so far. As well as other movements in this piece.
@thestick52 As part of the 24 hour Mozart project, Sharon Kam performed in a live television broadcast of the Mozart clarinet concerto from the Estates Theatre in Prague. In this theater Mozart's friend and inspiration, the clarinetist Anton Stadler, premiered the clarinet concerto on October 16, 1791. Stadler used his self-constructed instrument, a Basset Clarinet, which is an extended clarinet with 4 additional halftones, going down to a written low C, sounding A.
6:06 No cadenza? I would have liked to hear what she could come up with because the sound is great. Its sad classical musicians today don't learn how to improvise. It was a great opportunity to hear her express her commentary on the music. Oh well.
@jus400track This piece kills your cheeks when you first start learning it but with the amount of practice she must do it would never be a problem. You just build your muscles up like you do with anything else.
you kind of get used to the song and memorize it before you realize how long it is. I played a Mozart flute concerto that was like almost 20 min long in its entirety and it didn't feel that way until after I really looked at it and went "oh my god I just played for 20 minutes!!!" You just get into it and forget how long it is.
i know what you mean, i'd played this myself, and now it just seems like the "correct" length whenever i listen to it, then i realize 'oh... there went 12 minutes.'
very nice version although there is to big a gap for me as i think the lowest notes should be omited and returned to an older rendtion of this classic.
This is one of my most favorite pieces by Mozart. They do a SUPERB JOB of playing it. Everything is in perfect balance. I greatly enjoyed listening. Thank you for posting.
if her orchestral career goes under, she could always make it as a snake charmer
