Every video I see with Roxy and Stacy in it, I get the chills and in some I tear up in. They had an extremely close bond that every woman would like to have with her horse. Stacy is by far the best women in the horse world. I love her! R.I.P. Roxy, I love you too!
Can i use this video?..im putting a little video together of bareback riding and shes one of the greats. ill mention that there your clips of corse too..
Licking and chewing (motions) are signs of submission, the horse is submissive to her ques because he is doing exactly as he is being asked, it is an amazing bond. The tail twitching in reverse, and spins is because those 2 behaviors are not typical/natural in the horse world (as in wild horses) it is trained into them, so he may show some "uneasiness" about doing it, but he will perform it spotless because he knows how and is willing to do it for her.
I love watching Stacy - but can someone explain to me why this horse has such ferocious tail wringing at times, like in the backup? Tail wringing, to me, is a real negative type of feedback, and it doesn't fit with the rest of the performance. I would love to understand it.
@VivaLaVidaChica THIS is above and beyond what we understand. I get your point BUT the two of them are a gift from above. She would never HURT or put a horse through any type of abuse.
Stacy is an inspiration ... and her dreams are huge... I hope to watch them all come true... and Baby Doll.... is a champion of champions.... the best is yet to come... thank you for sharing this... many smiles... JVD
eevvJ15: This horse is a girl and her name is Wizards Baby Doll ( Roxy) she is amazing and I got an aoutgraph from her. Roxy is being samisif to Stacy Westfall, which is why she is licking her lips!
@DreamGait -nag, nag , nag . . . . . 3 times! You have obvioulsy mistaken me for somebody who actually cares about your opinion which I don't so just keep yout gnarly comments to yourself ok? My remark was a retrospecitive comment that did'nt require your rude and agressive response and don't talk to me ever again!
If the communication of the humans among themselves would be as clear as it is here between Stacy and her horse, we'd have a better and peaceful world. Full of understanding, no matter what race or species you'd belong to.
I would like to state something.. Whatever you guys say, when riding this way it is not possible to force a horse into something, because you have nothing to force with. Riding bridleless asks for full cooperation from the horse or it just won't work. Also, to parrellichick, I want to bet you ride dressage. For dressage standards, all that leg is not nice, but reining is a whole different kind of riding AND training. And I would be more worried if the horse was having an entirely stiff mouth.
very good horse - you just couldn't do it with "every" horse thats born - just like people some are born to go to the Olympics a lot will never see it!
@parellichick If you study Monty Roberts in any detail, you know that licking and chewing is good. It's relaxing and the horse cooperating. He is a big advocate of that. And also, if you took 1 minute to learn anything that Stacy Westfall does (or even simply watch her a little closer) you will learn she is NOT spurring her horse. She calls it leg waving and it is nothing more than using the energy of the horse to have a conversation and communicate how fast to go and it obviously works.
I was sorry I missed this day at the WEGs!!! I think Stacy give us all a mark to strive for, when horses and people have a "relationship" . Its sad how often we forget this premise.
parellichick you know nothing about horses, any real horse person knows that licking and chewing is a sign of a relaxed horse, she isnt spurring she is bumping, most reiners train that way so that when they slow down the bumping the horse slows instantly. my only concern is that roxy looked alil stiff in her back legs but it might just be the video. Amazing ride as always stacy!
It has been twenty years since I used to ride my beloved Morgan gelding bridless, this brought me tears of joy and great memories. Truly amazing to see the connection that can develop between [wo]man and equine! I see a horse totally comfortable and fulfilled by his role, it is crazy that people try to make this bonded relationship appear to be anything but beautiful.
What a beautiful performance as usual Stacy & Roxy. Love watching you both. The bond you have with each other is awesome. Can't wait to see you out again on the road. WEG could have not picked a better person to be included in the opening ceremonies.
Parellichick ...When the horse licks his lips he is 'digesting a thought'.. And not only is he thinking about what most recently happened, he is agreeing with it! Consider it a very, very good thing. Watch him closely for what we call a 'double lick'. What's going on between this horse and rider, is a beautiful thing.....
Parellichick... While I don't agree with your assessment, I think I can vaguely see what you think is "stress" or "tension". However, as with most horses, an assessment of anxiety level can almost never be completed with accuracy from a video - certainly not one that is as far away as this one is. Stacy & Roxy have been performing together for quite awhile, & Stacy is in fact an accomplished horsewoman. Only she & Roxy know the true nature of their run. It may be that you just misunderstood? :)
I've seen Stacey and Roxie perform this in person and also have seen them in person at clinics and events. They are an amazing team and Roxie is NOT stressed! I think maybe the music was irritating her... it's not their usual music and didn't fit the timing for the routine. It certainly annoyed me!
@ladychevalier Pul-lease...... Anyone who actually knows how to READ a horse can see that that amount of licking & chewing is not normal.
And quite frankly. I'm pretty sure that Pat & Linda teach us not to nag the horse. All that spurring - sure as hell looked like nagging to me. What, the horse can't move forward without a kick in the guts? Talk about micromanaged.
@parellichick all the kicking is just a signal.. when you don't have reins to slow one down you have to use different things.. and what can your horse do?? where is pat and linda in the sport of reining..
@parellichick ...so says someone who clearly doesn't take the time to learn how to communicate with a horse...instead of watching an instructional DVD
@valkyrye and you know this how? I didn't realize we knew each other. cause if you knew me, you'd know not only do i study Parelli, but I study Carolyn Resnick and Monty Roberts to names a few of the bigger names - not to mention the three clinics i've audited this year, Obviously you would have known that.. .. if you knew me.
@parellichick :) I can safely say I'm pretty happy not knowing you since you seem to snap more than smile... we can leave it at that hmmm... and I know you are familiar with assuming since you are comfortable with how it makes you look.
The horse isn't stressed at all, miffed a bit at where she is maybe, just would rather be someplace other than in front of all these noisy people in an unfamiliar place, the tail and the ears tell me that, but the rider and the horse are in tune and relaxed with each other, this horse would do anything for her even in this room full of noisy strangers, this was just beautiful, not my thing but beautiful just the same.
Stress? Other than the sheer beauty of this performance the one thing that I was impressed with was the total lack of tension on the part of the horse or rider ... I bet Mr. Parelli would love this ride! .. ;-)
wow "parellichick" you know nothing about horses and showing! That horse is not stressed out....far far from it and you know nothing about really horse training. Girl, you need to change your log in name. Even parelli horses perform. ROFLMAO you actually have the balls to post that comment. Don't speak of things you know nothing about.
@maryclaire9811 So, where are all you video's showing all YOUR horse knowledge? I wasn't stating a fact, i was expressing an opinion. Hate to break it to you. Am I the only one seeing a stressed out horse? That amount of licking & chewing is NOT good. its disturbing. And the amount of spurring? The tail swishing in the backup? Beautiful?
@parellichick yeah I think you are, because licking and chewing is actually a sign of relaxation and being comfortable. Have you ever seen a horse licking and chewing while upset? or running across the pasture? no. As far as the tail swishing, SHE'S A HORSE. My horses don't like having to back up either. It doesn't mean she's stressed out, just that it obviously isn't her favorite thing to do. Stacy and this horse have such unity in their performance, you can tell they both have a great time.
@parellichick not being rude yes i think you are the only one seeing it But i think personally its because of too many different teaching styles in your background U know what they say about the too many cooks on one dish it goes the same with training horses and other animals not everyone is going to tell you the same thing thats why when it comes to communicating with horses i don't go by what others say but by the horses reactions to something. i do this the horse kicks i don't do that again
