@Slayer5551 points are great but the best thing a defensman can do is break up an oposing reams rush and make a smart play with it. Lidstrom is better than Orr at that in my opinion

@almostboards117 Did you ever watch Orr? He was also superb defensively and his incredible skating allowed him to get back to break up plenty of opposing rushes. You don't have a +124 season without being a defensive rock.

@Slayer5551 the NHL Orr played in is much slower than todays NHL. in my opinion given that information i have to say i think Lidstrom has a better on ice awareness in a game where things happen 100 miles an hour.

Lidstrom ain't the best defencemen ever. He played against poor competition for his Norris all career long. Aside a 4-5 years where Niedermayer and Pronger were elite.
