  • Thank you! I've wanted to see this again since I saw him in the documentary with numerous versions of Danny Boy and it's story years ago. This is totally awesome! and that's not a phrase I use lightly.

  • Wonderful.

    Just wonderful!

  • Wished he had a cutout at 3:20!

  • Brings me to tears, sorry but it does. Thank you Eric.

  • fantastic !!

  • Absoloutly beautiful and full of soul. Thats the only way it can be described. I'm a bassist but i've always loved the sound of a Spanish Guitar which is why i own one. The meaning of the song just seems to be put across so much more clearer musically with this rendition in a sence :-)

  • Simply wonderful

  • If there is a better rendition of this beautiful music, God has kept it for Himself. Achingly beautiful!!

  • would never listen to an instrumental of Danny Boy because the words mean a lot, but after hearing this i heard every word, AWSOME IS THE ONLY WORD FOR IT.

  • He's right. As someone who loves playing Irish music...I've never done Danny Boy and probably never will. It's something that's transcended being a song and is a cultural and spiritual phenomenon. It's ethereal and like he says, sacred. That being said, sometimes, someone can come along and take something more than a song and truly do it justice, and here is a perfect example.

  • This came from a PBS special quite a long time ago called "Danny Boy - In Sunshine or in Shadow" that told the history of the song and the "Londerry Aire" it came from, and showcased a ton of major talent each doing their version. It was really awesome. I taped in on VHS at the time and have watched it a ton of times since. Hope the tape holds up forever. :-)

  • The most beautiful renditions of one the greatest pieces of music ever .

  • Absolutely love this version of Danny boy!!

  • Simple yet sublime.

  • a perfect example of KISS ( keep it simple stupid ) no hyper arrangements just play the tune maybe throw in a couple of tasty embellishments & out comes a true work of art!

  • I sooo love this version!!! Eric is amazing!!! I cried today listening to this as I was thinking of my grandfather who passed away when I was just 10, we were very close and I can still remember sitting in the living room and singing all of his favorite Irish songs with him, this being his most favorite.

  • How to take a sad song and make it better by the mistro. One more beautifully done musical offering in a very large collection.

  • I cant name many mainstream artists that put that much thought into their music

  • excellent! my favorite song!

  • this should have 1 million views, it is magic playing all over

  • It is the same always. Boredom.

  • I get so angry and upset sometimes... and I listen to this beautiful work of art and it is emotionally impossible to be upset anymore. Period.

  • whoever the one person is who had the audacity to dislike this can gtfo. Eric Clapton is the MAN!

  • Love it!

  • Good 정말 좋아요^^

  • This is a fantastic track, its Eric Clapton, it was released on a CD "Change the Wold"

  • @boydnf he is one of the few people that could, in fact, change the world!

  • So soothing, so beautiful! I wish I could play like this!

  • What kind of guitar is that ? any one ??

  • Too it is still called Danny Boy. The music is actually older than the poem that an Englishman tied to it for singing. But he does a great deal of tribute to the true original by not putting in the words.

  • sadly im not good enough to play this

  • heavenly,,,beautiful,,not an easy song to pick on a guitar,,but clapton nails it..excellent...love the fact that he respects this song so much that he felt his voice could'nt do it justice,,a humble genius...thankyou..

  • this was my grandads favourite song it brings back so many memories thank you

  • what a MASTER the best

  • such an amazing sound.

  • Only Clapton .....!

  • Finally found it......have heard every rendition of the song but this is by tar the most touching. sincere thanks

  • Man this as so much feeling, love this song, love this version, love this instrument, could listen to slow hand all night.

  • Beautiful song

  • thanks for posting this video. it's great as always.

  • Played with so much heart. One can feel all the families in Ireland saying good-bye to their young sons and daughters in times of emigration, never to see them again. And one can feel that for all families around the world in the same condition today. We love you Eric. Thanks.

  • That was beautiful. Smart call that if can't sing it, play the guitar.

  • We all know Eric plays a strat for his electric stuff and a Martin 000 28 and a 000 42 for his acoustic blues but what kind of a nylon string guitar does Eric play?

  • @mumblesfraser who cares man

  • @mumblesfraser It ia a Spanish Gut-String.. that's all I know.

  • I never knew Eric does a version of Danny Boy, brings tears to my eyes for this was my late mothers favorite song played by my favorite Eric Clapton. Just beautiful!!

  • Thanks for bringing this back, Was looking for this for a long while.

  • It is indeed and example of profound respect and good taste. Bravo, Eric Clapton!!!

  • Thank God, here it is again. YouTube took it out for quite a while. Any advice for me how I can save this to my disc or whatever? Great Job Elgordo, obligado

  • yeah look into youtube downloader

  • I love this acoustic playing of Danny Boy.

  • thanks dude, i've been looking for this song for months, then i gived up, but now here it is!!! NO FUCKING COVERSS!! hate them, i just want to listen to the master not them, haa you made me so happy now, made my night ..luv ya eric clapton

  • yeah, just give it a few months and someone will eventually flag it and have it taken down like everything else...

I thought Youtube was a public website that let us post and express and listen to new stuff...

  • @speakerdark94 - This is a cover. Eric did not pen this one.

  • @speakerdark94 - This is a cover. Eric didn't pen this one.

  • @speakerdark94 This is a cover.

  • @BarnesSean shaut up we no that dumbfuk he means its not bein played by some failed little bitch who tryed to learn it in 5 mins

  • @speakerdark94 hate to say it, but this is a cover. The song "Danny Boy" is a ballad written by Frederic Weatherly and usually set to the tune of the Londonderry Air. Ernestine Schumann-Heink made the first recording of it in 1918.

  • @4FabBEATLES He means no covers of Eric Clapton's arrangement, which is an original arrangement by Clapton.

  • @4FabBEATLES

oo i didn´t know about that recording, although i knew it was a cover, ..............bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbut what i tried to say is that this song is widely known for players like calpton, that´s why i said that, buttttt of couse i knew he wasn´t the original player... .... with "no fucking covers" i obviosly meant ... "no fucking dudesss trying to poorly play this beautiful song with their lack of talent.... and having the guts to uploaded"...

  • @speakerdark94 this is a cover.......
