They are clearly not meant to mow down soldiers: soldiers don't stand around in large crowds waiting to be mowed down. I remember seeing an article on one of these about 15 years ago, Supposed to be a dignitary protection vehicle in the mid-east or something... Anyhow that one hadejected cases falling inside the vehicle and all the way to the ground through slots in the floor.

Besides, if you need to actually fire the minigun, the least of your worries is what your spent cases are doing to the paint job.

I saw the same article about 15 years ago in Car & Driver. The vehicles were modified Chevy Suburbans with beefed-up engines, and the floor pan in the rear was replaced by a grate. The minigun fired 3000 rounds per minute. Obviously, the rounds fired in the promo are blanks, because the gunner fires at the camera & there is no long stream of tracers downrange.
