GET SOME COLORED GLASSES! Like trying to teach a blind person to drive a car. You can tell them how to shift and turn, but they can't see the road. In 1988, 60 minutes aired a segment, colored glasses for dyslexics. I was severally dyslexic. I went out and got a pair. Purple was my color. Blues or reds are the colors that work best. At 28 I could read for the first time! I could see the print. It's a physical handicap. Side note, after having lasik eye surgery, I haven't need my colored glasses.
I'm reading "The Gift of Dyslexia" & it is fascinating! I started down this journey because, at 5 yrs old, my daughter has all the symptoms of dyslexia, except for seeing her words all jumbled -so I was confused , wondered if she actually had dyslexia or not. I've learned from the book that she is a "potential dyslexic" & it is negative reinforcement that can frustrate them into acquiring those confusing reading problems ...I'm looking forward to teaching my child the right way to learn!!!
i participated in this program and it didnt change anything. Complete was of £500. ADHD is neurological, not physcological so pyschological therapies cannot 'cure' or 'fix' ADHD. Look up Ari Tuckman, his methods are scientific and logical, type his name in amazon.
Does anyone know if it would work for a 5 year old that is home schooled. I know they say to wait to get diagnosed till 8 but he has all the symptoms and I hate to brag but the reading program we use is so good my other children learned to read like 2nd graders at his age. He reads but he switches d for b, p for q, and m for w. He also reads words backwards like "saw" says "was". At age 5 he is doing 1st grade math without difficulty. But reading stresses him. Is he too young to start this?
@yskdl1998 Look into the Barton system also before you make a decision. Confusing b, d and p is a common manifestation of dyslexia. There are simple procedures to overcome that. I'm sure this Davis program is good, I just don't know it. I tutor kids with the Barton system, and I really believe in it. Google "Bright Solutions for Dyslexia."
There's a program called "A Workbook for Dyslexics" that I found on Amazon - it changed my 11 year old's life. It wasn't expensive either. Watching this vid seemed like it would take too long to teach the kids.
I am 20 years old and I cant evan read at a 9th grade leve and I cant spel very good I was told I had dyslexia at 15 I think that if I would of knon if I had it at a younger age and worked on it more I would have been alot beter at reading and writhing at age 20
You spell better than i do and i am very successful construction manager.......Learn to deal with it....get Ron's book and read it you will be enlightened i promise.....what ever you do DO NOT GIVE UP

Can you find an adult who might be willing to work with you? The Davis methods are summarized and explained in the book, The Gift of Dyslexia, and you could work through the basic techniques as long as you have the book and a willing helper.
I haven't found a trace of ANY scholarly articles mentioning the Davis program. Any good educational/psychological intervention method should have a VAST array of studies done on it (search psycinfo) to ensure that it is actually effective. Please post valid studies of your program and its effectiveness before you advertise your program

the big challenge afterwards was coming to terms with 27 years of dyslexia which i was previously unaware of. it has been a major unravveling process for me.
i would recommend this to anyone out there who is struggling.
I read his book and thought it was great. I just havne't found anyone who could teach me the techniques he talks about. Although obiviously I can read and wright/type.
I didnt know he was invalved in that, I brought heaps of those cookies! I saw the information on it and I said to myself something has to change! I cant change my school life as that is in the past, but I can HELP change the future!
DavisDyslexia yes we do have it, but its so hard to get! its the way the systems are set out, ive been searching for help for 18 years, i finished 13 years of school without help because our government only now really grasp dislexia and that it still isnt identified in our school systems!
That has been true in the past, but we hope it will change in the future. Ron Davis was in New Zealand last month in connection with Dyslexia Awareness week and has been working with the Cookie Munchers Charitable Trust as part of their successful effort to get dyslexia officially recognized by the Minister of Education, which we hope would be the first step toward getting all children the help they need.
I can see how this will help I have been thorough so many of theys programs and well none of them have worked I have never heard of this befor I lean hands on like most dyslexias do I have found the best way of getting over dyslexia is practice just do it over and over
Actually, if you are in New Zealand -- you definitely do have this program. You can find info by doing a Google search for "Davis Dyslexia New Zealand"
(Sorry for the delayed in my response - I missed seeing this post before).

The Davis Young Learner Kit for Home Use will give you what you want. It is geared for home schoolers working with children age 5-7.
You can find that kit on the Dyslexia the Gift web site.
