  • If you want some cheap silk with a nice pattern on it, buy a neck tie from a second hand or charity shop, open it all up, and iron it out. You will be surprised at how much fabric there is!

  • Where can I find the pattern to download and print? Could you post the link to that please?

  • Great tutorial! I just finished mine and can't wait to wear it. I think you should mention to size it. I have to double it around my neck because it is so long! But I did learn how to make and tie a bow tie today.

  • can you show how to actually tie or form the bow?

  • @lovelyw3nDy If you still need to know how to tie a bow tie, look up, 'How to tie a bow tie - fully explained'. (If you like it, please take the trouble to leave a comment.) Good luck.

  • interesting

  • hey I can't find the patterns either.

In regards to the pinking shears. I agree not to use them to cut. If you're concerned about the fraying, the tie is cut on the bias so it frays less anyway.

  • Super cute. Great job! Honestly I would have used pinking sheers too if the fabric was satiny or frayed easily...not sure why someone thought that was a bad idea!! Thanks for the awesome vid.

  • You always make the cutest things!! Thanks for sharing..

  • I'm sorry, but its really really bothering me that you cut it with pinking sheers -______-" you're never supposed to do that.

  • @lostwithoutstage I cut with pinking sheers to prevent the fabric from fraying while I work with it. There are other methods someone could use to do the same thing, but that's just how I choose to do so.

  • @MissaByDesign See, at the moment I'm actually in a clothing class. Several books say never to cut out fabric with pinking shears because it actually will fray the fabric when you go to sew it, makes the actual cutting of the fabric harder. and it causes there to be no straight line to sew from and measure out the seam allowances. Yes you can use pinking shears on fabric @aglanceatmyworld that isn't what I was saying... You just do it after you sew.

  • @lostwithoutstage I think it's smart to cut it out with pinking sheers. No one wants to spend time and hard work making something and then have it fall apart because the fabric frayed. I trim my seams with pinking sheers and Missa is just making things a little easier by cutting her fabric with pinking sheers to begin with.

  • @lostwithoutstage According to Wikipedia: Pinking shears have a utilitarian function for cutting woven cloth. Cloth edges that are unfinished will easily fray, the weave becoming undone and threads pulling out easily. The sawtooth pattern does not prevent the fraying but limits the length of the frayed thread and thus minimizes damage.
