  • He sounds good after all these years

  • huge fan but these live performances i'm finding on youtube just don't do him justice. ewww

  • My favorite singer of all time....watched him walk off the stage in 88 at the Academy of Music in Philly after singing only one song...Fake...everyone was so disappointed..He was at the top of his game at that time and was cranking out hit after hit,One of the most underrated crooners of all time. as Cherrelle would say,..sing it Alex!!

  • Love him! I have all his CDs. Want him to get it together and come back strong. Are you listening Alex. Much work to do from what I saw on your last performance. I know you can do it.Come on! Do it for yourself and your devoted fans! Please listen to an old timer!

  • Plain and simple its Alex d boss!!!

  • Where was this performance at?

  • So Good! Sounds Amazing Live!

  • Dude is Baddddddddddddddddddddddddd. Love his Musics.......Woman!

  • Drugs ruined his balance and coordination but he still has that voice

  • absolutely LOVEEEE ths.

  • Alex, Alex baby Alex.....Forget about his issues, this man DOMINATES with his voice! Can't stop listening to this and Saturday Love!

  • love love love

  • Alex come back bless us with some more music.

  • I used to love his music as a teenager in the "80. His voice is unbelievable pure and so real, and he sounds so good singing live. Today's music got nothing on Alex. I can't wait for his album to come out next month.

  • Oh my gosh it is so nice to listen to music where people sound as good live as they do on the album. I feel that is almost like a lost art. Even if people think drugs ruined his voice, he still sounds better half assed than most performers do at full potential.

  • @cazman35 He sure does sound as good as the did back in the days. What a beautiful voice !

  • Oh my gosh it is so nice to listen to music where people sound as good live as they do on the album. I feel that is almost like a lost art.

  • He sings live better then the video. Cheers great singer/great song, timeless Jam!

  • That was nice. So glad he is trying to stay off the drugs, messed with his voice a bit but the still sings with everything he has got, unlike this so called new R&B .This Song still goes hard to this day!!!

  • His voice is so soothing, they play this song at my job and it makes me so sleepy....in an awesome way!!!! Like I wanna fall asleep with Love beside of me, holding me, kissing me, etc. This song goes HARD!!! <3 it!

  • If only he sounded like this at the BET Awards......

  • that was a pretty good performance, Alex can still blow but too much crack and cigarettes has him really raspy and in certain spots sounds like he has false teeth. No disrespect, love the man.

  • man am 32 an never knew who sang this song, finally!

  • He's kept the TONE of his voice, but because of drugs and bad dentures?? He sounds "lipsy" and spotty on some notes.

  • Yes He sounds just like the record...One of my favorites

I won a talent show singing Crying overtime Back in Junior High..Whooo Thanx Alex Luv ya man!

  • 2 ppl missed the dam like butten

  • FANTÁSTICO,DULCE,TIERNO MARAVILLOSO ROMÁNTICO,VERDADERAMENTE ENCANTADOR.

  • I LOVE the sound of that drummer

  • he is so amazing

  • luv him!!!!

  • classic

  • Man he still sings the woman out dem draws after all this time, i had a guy that was checking my girl out and he had a chrysler concord and i had a old ass cavalier he was jammin to this cd and the next mornin when i came home from work he was sitting out front with her in his arms and the po po was called and she told me to pack and go! ha ha! i bought this after that!! i love this guys stuff he is very original!! the best in the land!!!

  • @newsiemen4u this is one of the funniest comments i've ever read

  • geat voice!!!

  • Saw him at wembley in 88/89 awesome

  • I'm a retired Customer Service Agent from Northwest Airlines..Alex is one person that I did not mind upgrading to F class, for he never asked for it or was arrogant, just thankful that I took it upon myself to do it...BrendabeenlovingAlexsince1982...

  • great voice! one of my favorite songs ever

  • they dont have singers like him anymore. if this were contemporary singer hed be trying to undress and grind and simulating sex. No sense of creativity.

  • God he is so cool - I had the pleasure of dancing on stage with him in Hastings, East Sussex UK a few years ago to "All True Man" would pay to do it again! - Thanks for the vid

  • If you love this song, thank Monte Moir. He was one of the keyboardists in The Time and also wrote "Pleasure Principle" for Janet.

  • Love this song.

  • Alexander sounds great, but the band has no soul.

LOL. Is this the band from American Idol?

  • ALEXANDER THE GREAT!

  • I sing this song in the shower all the time. One of my favorites!

  • Nice. Alexander probably didn't get the exposure in the US as he did in his native UK. So romantic and beautiful...light a candle for our love. Love it

  • he lives in the UK but he was born in the United States. I believe it was Mississippi and then moved to Minnesota to work with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis and Flyte Time Productions.

  • Yes, you're correct about him being from the US. But I think he was with Morris Day and the Tyme but was kicked out because his complexion didn't conorm with those of Prince and Day. Intraracism. He has a gritty voice which I think is fine.

  • I find that wrong being a light-skinned brother myself.

  • Certainly not meant as an insult to light complexioned brothers or a comdenation of darker brothers. But I did read somewhere a while back that he was a little too dark for that group. But he did alright by himself - where is Morris Day now? Alexander is still out there. I'm a brown-skinned sister myself and always thought of myself as good brown sugar.

  • @kariebeez Alex was the original lead singer of Flyte Tyme, which is who became The Time. Morris Day started out as the drummer. Alex was NOT kicked out because of his complexion (Terry Lewis, Jerome Benton, and Jellybean Johnson are all dark skinned) but because Alex had a coke habit, and Prince didn't play that. Alex was fired, Morris moved to lead singer, Jellybean moved to drums, and Jesse Johnson replaced Jellybean on guitar. The rest is history!

  • don't the memories just gush from your heart when you hear this man sing?

  • I agree an I have had the pleasure of working with him here in the UK. I'm on tour in my hotel room bored, but now I have a good song to work on for my next Album Thank you mate got to go chow!

  • i wish he would come here,i would be there.

  • Alexander the Great!!

  • @ blusk 119..i co-sign that

  • PLEASE BRING Back REAL MUSIC

  • SIMPLY THE BEST!!!

  • what lyrics.

    what an artist.

    greatness personified.

  • they sure as hell don't make music like this anymore.

  • props from Germany for posting this great delight.

    Alexandra

  • wow...I totally dedicate this to a certain tall dark and handsome man back home on the East that I'm sorta feelin...ok...I'm CUMpletely NUTs for him! haha

    HAPPY VALENTINE's DAY

    thanks uploader

  • One of my fav songs/singers but this makes me a bit sad. He was not in good health at this time and the band sounds like "play by numbers." They just ain't groovin - this is LIVE and the dynamics don't support the power of his singing - at all... no its sucking my energy (the band)

  • fyi: "...In 1990, he went on a world tour and is still to this day the only black singer to ever sell out 6 straight nights at London's Wembley Arena..." Wikipedia

was the lead singer of "Flyte Tyme" (included Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis and Monte Moir) before being replaced by Morris Day

Morris was good but Alex has the pipes & soul

  • Alex can still blow. Now this is what you call music.

  • this is such a beautiful song but u can tell he was drunk...but he played it off

  • alex, terry and jimmy are fantastic talents for sure. but this masterpiece was written by Monte Moir of the time. easily in the top 10 r&b tunes of the 80s.

  • EASILY, I do agree!!! :)

  • he would sing circles around the t pains and lil waynes and omarion and cris browns in our day!

  • God, you are so right. whatever happen to music

  • its lost in time thats what happen to the music so sad

  • one of the best from the 80's. i love the way he put's it down in the end... ((( hah-ah-ooo... hah-ah-ooo... ha-ah-ooo )))

  • You right there JayJay this shit is REAL MUSIC not some ballbag with shades on in a nightclub speeding up 80's music and calling it "Dance" i hate that crap!

  • I saw Alex two weeks ago at the the Watford Colloseum.Took my teenage kids...He sung his heart out for an hour and twenty minutes.Did he kick some ass or what...such a classy singer.Prince signed him to the Time in 1984..kinda says it all. He's still got it after all these years...Alex,it was awesome to see and hear you after all these years.Treasuresd moments from one of the few remaining performers of this time.amd is so right....the passion and heart and soul in this man is immense.........

  • I've heard so many stories about him, Prince and the Time. I am truly glad he did leave them - his voice was too powerful to be stuck in the background, behind Moris Day or even Prince.

  • This is one of the greatest love songs ever recorded. The pure passion in this song is palpable thru the airwaves. And the lyrics are ourstanding. What a great Alexander ONeal-Jimmy Jam-Terry Lewis masterpiece.

  • @amd77j

    What a BEAUTIFUL voice !

  • for a very special person in my life he his awesome :) big hugs for him :) xxxxx

  • one of the best songs everrrr

  • I play this to my girl. And then she knows how much she means to me. Just to good.

  • outstanding

  • my best song in the world

  • this is real music not some dude in a office writting a song then giving it to a boy band to sing this is real feelings, emotions and real soul.

  • hes the nuts

  • one of the greatest ever.

  • Awesome

  • my favorit song live

  • Wooooooooooooooo! This is when folks were really singing. Oh my my my ! Yes he is the man

  • I like AO but this was just a horrible live version.

  • good song but drugs will fuck up some shit

  • lol!!! you wrong!

  • both the song and he still sound good after all these years. his voice is a bit shot but, the arrangement is perfect.

  • My my my goodness...

  • Saw Alex in Newcastle on Wednesday - in top form. He's still the man!

  • He is not dead...unless he just died. IT's crazy. He lives in ATL and so does Cherelle and they did a show about 8 months ago at at this hole in the wall but a "UPSCALE" hole in the wall but they gave a wonderful show...and he was fycked up at that performance as well :-(

  • bigbrothermarvelous- Is he dead?? I agree that he is tow up. Let me know. FACTS NOT GOSSIP What is his status now??

  • he was either drunk or high off that ohwee....but still professional enough to pull off this classic 80's great slow jam.....but at the same time he's always had a flair in his preformances...like most real singers do

  • OOOOOHHH SARA!Sí estuvieras aquí esta noche...

    TE quiero!!!

  • favorite love song ever.

  • Alex definitly is a legendary voice that was cut short by drugs & other challenges. It isn't a black, white or any race thing. Kurt Cobain, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, David Ruffan & countless artist have been marred by THEIR own lifestyles. Drugs don't see raise. Only destruction over time. Dude was drunk on his ass singin' this song, & he still put on a pretty good show! & still hit a few notes!

  • Alex is still alive ! he was on tv today ,hes doing a tour of the uk at the minute!

  • sounds great.a true legend.

  • Yeah he does seem either drunk or out of breathe

  • this man is a legend!!great voice great sings and as drunk as he is he still pulls the shit of respect an nothin but love for alex!!!

  • hes the mutts nuts goin 2 see him up the road from me in croydon in march !!!!!

  • This what life in amerikka has always done to blk folk killed them slowly.

  • I love you Alex!

  • i don`t care whether people think he can or can`t sing live. all i know is i played this song for the woman i have always loved because it said all things i felt in my heart and soul

  • He sings good enough for me. He doesn't sing for the haters anyway.

  • Great Singer...F'kin class

  • One of the Best 80's song and singer.

  • i am 21 and i love this man i would love to see him live i grew up listning to his music xxxx i love u alex

  • The same with me, im 23 and i grew up listening to Alex. . maybe im just an old head! lol

  • 43 here and I remember when it first came out. Seems just like yesterday that I heard this for the first time.

  • he's just a drop out from "The Time".

  • Degenerate nothingness, you couldn't eat his asshole, you world class turd.

  • Stop hatin,,,, just because you can't sing. He should charge you for singin around the family.

  • I know him and he doesn't sound much better in person. He is always trying to sing at everyone's house that he comes to. He is out of breath! Maybe the crack habit tore his vocals up. I do have all of his albums, but I would not pay to see him sing live!

  • Psst. He's still a good singer.

  • I do have all of his songs, just saying the synthesizers really helped him out! I am a fan of his but I just don't care for this performance and his live singing when he comes around my family.

  • ALex sounds just fine. It's a live performance without the benefit of a silent recording studio. He hasn't disappointed me.

  • That brother has soul. Great live performance!

  • I love him and this is my favorite song by him, but am I the only one who's noticing that he doesnt sound right? Is it me or does he sound like he's out of breath on most of the lines?

  • only 1 of my favs i havent seen

  • oh dear. i have seen him perform so much better. hope this is a fluke

  • is it me or is he drunk while performing this song ?

he seems drunk while singing and performing !!!!!!!

  • luv this song!! sing it A.O.He sings his heart out on every song. The best singer of my time growing up in the 80's.I miss this music for real...thx for posting this song...steve/Pittsburgh,PA

  • Good god - this is what I call real music - Singing live and sounding that good - how many can really do that. Doesn't matter what condition he maybe in he rocks -- Thanks for posting....

  • One of the truly great soul singers of any era, with a masterpiece of a song. No-one can sing perfectly on every night of a large tour, and I for one find this even more affecting and moving a performance precisely because this is a triumph of emotion over technical exactness. Human-scaled perfection is what gods and robots envy in us.

  • This song ruls... but Saxophone version is much better.

  • i don't care what anyone's got to say....go on alex and sing that song!

  • that's right...him amd that band did their thing 4 real

  • nice song lol

  • i used to wear the album out.lots of good memories.i think that i made kids off this song. very nice live version.thanx badventrue.

  • hes not drunk hes got dental issues still well sung though

  • Hatin ass people. He did his thing and thats all there is to it.

  • If he's drunk he still sounds a lot better than any new school mess that thinks they are singing now a days. Sing that song Alex. this is my favorite by him.

  • Indeed !!!

  • Uhhhh....is Alex drunk?

  • a few people seem to think so -- if you view the dvd from where this segment is from -- "you'll see that he ISN'T

  • hmmmm, maybe i uploaded this with the sound a little too loud, but for all those doubters out there if you view the dvd "best disco in town" you will find that alex is not drunk and that the man can truly sing well live

  • Incredible voice....bad teeth

  • try and get the bed scene.super cool.

  • What the hell???? Was he drunk or something???

  • soso lala...doesn't work for me...i miss the original 80's sounds...great song though

  • This copy is bad. A good copy is on his myspace page and it sounds better.

  • he does seem to lose his timing but hey the guys still a legend..an old skool love god

  • What do you guys mean there was something wrong with his voice? I dont think so.

This song is great, i love it !!! Thank you for sharing.

  • If you listen to the way he says words, it sounds like he either has a lisp or he's drunk. ^_^

  • Alex's voice has gone downhill a bunch but this performance was still real tight! damn gooood

  • can we get a sound check please?

  • I love Alexander O'Neal's music.

  • hmmm whether he is drunk or not -there's no denying the man can sing live

  • Yeah, but he sounded bad on this one! You can't deny that...

  • hmmmm, many others wouldnt agree with you there- you free to voice your opinion

  • He's drunk!

  • What is wrong wtih his voice?

  • I love him and this song...by the way...He is one of Prince's Favorite as well

  • Ah Yeah this is one of my all-time favorites, I love Alex, "Sunshine" is my absolute favorite. Thanks for posting this , I always wondered what he was doing now and if he still had IT!

  • so many memories

  • Still one of my favorite songs of all time! Thanks for posting this!!
