Can someone clear something up for me, can you actually see through these glasses to the real world and things are overlayed? or is all you see the video.
This is the future of computing, people. Once the cameras are panoramic and we get good at tracking environments and hands/fingers rather than just 2D shapes.
My buddy bought these on ebay and they're awful. It looks like a big square right in front of your face, it does not seem 10' away nor did it seem 67". $260 wasted.
@Innercow And the contact-embedded internet will search for them. We won't have to carry any physical gadgets and will be able to enter fully immersive photorealistic VR at will.
@HomeskooledVideo I've planning an ultimate gaming PC for years. First I twas thinking about Eyefinity, then 3D Vision Surround, but now I've decided to wait again, because the first two affordable HD3D HMDs have been announced - the Sony Headman and Zeiss Cinemizer OLED are both 720p. The Headman may never actually be released, and is likely over a year away if it will be, but the Cinemizer OLED, which has a much smaller form factor, is scheduled for this summer at $515.
@darc321 Haha, actually, I was discussing that recently on the AR/VR board at MTBS3D, which is a great site for gaming hardware information, and there are no updates. Carl Zeiss is a highly reputable company, so I'm surprised they haven't announced anything. It should be out now or soon, but I'm now expecting delays. It may end up as vaporware. The Wrap 1200VR may be worth considering, though it too isn't yet available, and also it's sub-HD.
Just went to the manufacturer's website. It appears that these should be available now for around $249. These don't seem very practical at the moment. I don't know of any systems that use stereoscopic. Is this just a novelty product that's ahead of it's time?
@psy4logic why is this such a bad thing? i mean if it saves time and effort and people can make something look exactly as they want why is this bad? stuff dosent have to happen like the movies >.<
this is true AR because the usb cameras on the front are relicating your eyes onto 67" displays. I cant even imagine walking around with that on let alone someone program some zombies to scuttle over your sofa or whatever. The ability to recognise a plastic gun ur actually holding and turn it into a fantasy energy gun is only a matter of time. This is a MASSIVE milestone in ar viewing, we just need the implementation and graphics to get slightly more real. XBox kinect is just tiding us over.
@Smackanulty this scares me. we won't need many physical objects anymore, 'cause we just augment them. to buy cheap clothes but overlay it with a big brand or something. picture on a wall? feck it, I'm gonna put a new one every week just augmenting it. not only picture, but interior design in all your house! and then, we'll get bionic contacts and if we'll use the same augmented reality provider/operator we'll have ability to change our face/body. You won't trust your eyes anymore. It is coming.
@psy4logic I hope it is coming where we can replace our eyes with technology superior in every way. Obviously we would be able to modify exactly what is augmented, you clearly understand very little of computers and electronics. What's done here is actually very primitive technology, and the lenses on the cameras they are using need to be wider angle to capture a more similar field of view as our eyes.
you can tell that the glasses use the characters on the surface as a reference point. maybe, you could have a bracelet with a character, which when you looked at it displayed a virtual watch / multifunction tool, and then use your finger to navigate through its applications.
damn finally some 1 actually who thinks in the right way (augmented reality glasses with sterioscopic effect)....though the application is dumb this is what will bring gaming to whole new level in the future :D
damn finally some 1 actually who thinks in the right way (augmented reality glasses with sterioscopic effect)....though the application is dumb this is what will bring gaming to whole new level in the future :D
@semphony100 this is not E3. this is CES, they stopped having games at CES many years ago. and this is just an example simulator, not a full fledged game.
developing a game that uses these would be really cool. I hope the iPhone can use them, i notice the older non-AR versions are compatible with the iPhone although im not sure if thats just for video. If iPhone/touch apps can interface with the glasses (these new AR ones) - the possibilities would be endless. If anyone has a pair of the normal Wrap 920s or below and an iPhone - it would be great to hear what they can actually do when paired.
@RampanT77 Well it is augmented reality. the reality is the board and there is no maze or ball. It's not the best augmented reality but it still is augmented reality :P
but i agree if you say that they could have just used accelerometors and 3D glasses :P
but is it really aug, mented reality in the true sense ? I mean is it possible to see the ordinary world through the glasses, with 3d graphics and info layed on top of it in key places?
augmented reality is different from Virtual reality in that it's still reality (glasses should be able to be transparent) , with the aid of computer graphics displayed on top of it
@jdean9 The board he is holding is quite real - the glasses interface with the symbols on the board through an image recognition program. Therefore, he is doing exactly that - viewing the real world with a 3D graphics overlay. Thus this is without question true augmented reality.
@jdean9 you get a hell of alot more available options(freedom to manipulate that info) if you relay the world through cameras vs just drop graphics on top of what you see though clear glasses, on the other hand clear glasses with gfx overlays look hollywood cool.
very interesting technology ! but the game looked very unoriginal and confusing... i can see this has potential for much better games and applications though !

that guys an asshole, just shitting all over their invention.
first he calls the glasses ugly (they are, but don't need to say it), then he says he has a headache.
Does he not realize that he's playing a Stereo 3D video game on a piece of cardboard?
I'd be like, "Holy shit!, this is some pretty dope tech you got here".

This is not augmented reality.
This is nothing more than playing a game via a '3D' headset - with a board as a controller device. Like if you played Wii Monkey Ball via a headset.
As jdean9 said - proper augmented reality consists of viewing the real world - with computer graphics layered on top of what you're looking at.
So this is bullshit.
