lol this kinda reminded me of Dawn of the Dead...especially when you get to 3mins 45secs and your commenting on 'in the closing hours and minutes, shoppers still came...perhaps curious....perhaps just wanting to say goodbye'
I had this image of mindless zombies going about their daily routines...just as they did when they were alive....
@09toxicity Aww, thanks very much. I was once the 'Voice of Ingram Micro' by doing their telephone hold system promo things. You may also enjoy my 'Portmeirion Prisoner Filming Locations' video on YouTube :)
My Two Nearby Woolies Stores In Airdrie And Coatbridge were old and rubbish not middle aged and fine like this store they both had 1 tiny floor My nearest one was coatbridge That Lies Empty Probably For The next few years the extra 1 and a half mile away airdrie is now poundland Au Naturale Glasgow Fort Also Nearby Is A poundland Too Many Poundland Stores Are In glasgow
hmm I dont know probably not,. They said a couple of months ago "2 major fashion retailers" but didnt specify. We'll be moving into half of old woolies and Adam's next door as well. :D
Hey. We've moved into the old site now (14 hours every day last week refitting). I have been trying to decipher where what part of woolies we are covered on (because we have the old unit of Adams next door as well).
how many empty shops are there in aylesbury now? How many have been empty for 6 months/a year? For every new shopwe get, 5 seem to close. They'll be nothing left soon
Yep I remember that old Woolworth - after it moved from the High Street - I remember that the part that is now the library (if you can call that place a library) was the food section.
I'm sorry Paul, you've got to get out more mate. I grew up in Aylesbury and used to shop in the old Woolworths (the second biggest one in Europe) but could I give two shits that it isn't there anymore!
I remeber when they built the 'new' Friars Sqaure, and Woolworths was one of the first shops open, everything else was coverd with images of green hills on boards
ok so i've lived in aylesbury nearly all my life.. but what the hell. grow up. it was just a shop. there will be more. go to hmv or whsmith for your dvds. bloody hell hmv had better deals anyway!
i think its funny you waited outside for the actual closing of the shop.. doesnt that scare you a little?
My friend and I, are so sad for the closure of Woolworths, we were acctually banned once for stealing a camera, so really we have missed it a long time before you lot have xxxxx
u did well to capture those last hours...good idea this vid will be viewed for years
if only u were there to video the old market square and the wimpy bar above the market area, before it was built over with that dump of a shopping centre
I remember when Woolies was in the High Street in Aylesbury. They used to sell their own record label 'Embassy' - cover versions of pop songs. Very sad to see the demise of this 'institution'.
Growing up in Aylesbury, I have very fond memories of the original 3 floor Woolworths, which included a Food hall(situated where the County library now stands) & and a big Restaurant on the third floor. The music section was huge, but then, in those days you only had Our Price Records or a couple of local record shops,Oven Ready records & Record House, (which are also no longer with us) Woolworths had the best range and was the cheapest place to buy from.
growing up woolworths in aylesbury, that place will not be the same with out it the pic and mix only place is wilko, not as good as woolworths, i hope this get millon hits and maybe in few years we shall see this back on you beloved high streets
I must admit that I didn't use Woolworths much in the past few years, but having grown up with it, it's going to be a little strange to see it disappear - especially as our local one is huge...But then our local C&A was huge too...Now it's a road to Asdas.
It's not like leaving a tip - the staff weren't going to get the pound, no matter what. Put it this way, a stack of ex-display, used, grubby DVD cases at a car boot fair; would I pay a pound for them? No. Especially not if displayed under a big sign saying 90% off. FYI I bought two packs of new DVD cases from Woolies the day before, for 78p the pair. They should only have been 60p, but I didn't complain because they were still worth 78p to me. The used ones weren't worth a pound. Hence, no sale.
Oh come on, that was very tight!! You were not prepared to pay £1 for those DVD cases. I have bought things in my local Woolies for 70% off, but the discount was not taken off, but I wasn't complaining because of the problems the staff have faced over the last few weeks. Shame on you!

lol! Well, this *is* a spoof...?
Pick n Mix is everywhere now!
The last 5+ years of Woolworths saw the company lose its focus and its way. I can't say I've missed it much myself; I wasn't a frequent visitor.

because they closed now i have to buy the over priced pick and mix from odeon when i go to the cinema. i miss Woolworths .

I can't wait for the one about Aldi's demise. Fancy they issue their own whopping parking fines for people who don't display their ticket in the car.

I'm only 17 but ive lived in aylesbury all my life and its definately changing drastically.
and for change, things have to leave and others come.
we've lost a woolworths, but now we have other good shops lol
we;ve got a new bus station and new bridge over morrisons etc which is transforming aylesbury into a new hip town :)
change is a good thing, but this is a great memorial to a loved shop! well done
