Why at the start of the game when I hit monsters 1 lvl i have miss? If I can't kill a monster, how do I level up?

It's supposed to. It's a game dedicated to old console games liek that. In fact, I think pretty much every sprite in the game was ripped from the Mana series, with a bit of customization here and there. And other generic games like it.

well look at the enemy levels at the top, they are 35+, so I would assume his mage is at LEAST level 35.
