I've liked this very much. The problem about shredders isn't how they play, but what they play. Their own compositions suck, because it's just always a simple drum and bass line and billions of high guitar notes per second. When they play such a great song with due respect it's just allright. I forgive him for the last 10 seconds, cause he is a shredder and can't help it. The Explorer guy's solo is underrated. Very musical and very good in itself
playing fast doesn't bother me and can be good if the guitarist plays clean and precise (like Paul) ; what is annoying is those fast 'players' who are unprecise and plays dirty notes ; for example, Shawn Lane was playing fast, but, at the same time, was a precise player.
Shredders take note: There is a time & place for everything. Jimi didn't want to see how MANY notes he could PLAY in a song - Jimi wanted to see how many notes he could FEEL in a song. Paul is a technically great guitarist, but when he shows off his skills, (starting at 4:10), he loses the soul of the song.
@dulcimerz2drumstix People forget that there is a lot of emotion and "soul" in playing fast notes too. Just because he gets his shred on doesn't mean it's not tasteful. It's brief and ends the song with a climax, which is obviously what he was trying to accomplish.
@elspiclatino Once you get to that level, I don't think you can really say who's better. I think each could play anything the other could, but it really comes down to style at this point.
Personally, I prefer PG's style over SV's but I wouldn't say one is better than the other.
@corandaravis i guess you're right they're both really talented musicians maybe my opinion is bias cause i seen steve vai live and it was my favorite concert i had been to
I love the way Paul Gilbert expresses himself to different types of music. This one grabbed my soul. <3

This nearly made me cry when he musically masturbated at the end, but other from that, it is pure beautiful :) Jimi Hendrix is God.

@DaNgLiDdOn You wish you could masturbate that graceful ...

Played the song on it's merit. Pauls a shredder who can masturbate in private.
