Im 210 and have the shocks all the way up, and when riding smooth there is a gap BUT hit any bump and the rear WILL hit the seat..
Yes they give u tape but I dont like being bucked by the fender hitting bumps... I returned the Danny gray seat and ordered the rocker seat not the C , it fits better and still gives u that lower seat .....was under$250
Thanks for producing the video - very helpful! I also had a problem with the bolt heads (2 came off fine with my new Torx 40, 2 stripped right away). I bought some screw extractors (Alden 8440P 4 Piece Kit) and set to getting the bolts out the hard way. It took 2 hours of drilling (if desperate, drill a small hole in the middle of the screw shaft so the extractor bit has something to grab hold of), but now I'm a happy camper with my new seat. Thanks for the confidence-boosting video!
This video was very helpfull for installing the DG solo seat on my Rocker C. Many thanks for it!
Now I have 2 questions. I've tried to install the protective fender tape but didn't work out well. All air bubbles and fingerprints underneath it. I had 2 pieces of tape, now I still have one. 1) Is it necesarry to install the tape? 2) If yes, do you have good advice how to do this?
@SteelHeart4Ever Thanks my friend! I never installed the clear tape as I felt it was unnecessary. While riding, I reach back and feel the gap between the back of the seat and the rear fender with my thumb... The seat never comes in contact with the fender... I was also worried that removing the tape at a later date would also possibly peel off some of the paint from the rear fender! Give my best to JCVD !!! Ride hard or Go Home!!! Geo. Visit ShaveNationdotcom for all your shaving supplies! Geo
@geofatboy Thanks for your fast answer. Well that was also one off my worries that the tape could do something to the paint. My opinion is, I'm pretty sure that my fender comes in contact with the seat because I felt it already a few times today(first ride with DG seat). Roads in Belgium are terrible... But I guess that when there is no dirt between fender and seat it will not do any damage to the fender without the tape. What do you think about this? Correct me if I'm wrong. ;-)
what about an aftermarket passenger seat for this bike, i've found two, one by bitchinseats for $2k, and one by corbin for $900, any ideas or other seats you have found, tempted to make my own, $900 is to much for a passenger seat
Much nicer! I love the blue stitching. . .I never liked how the stock seat had that gap. This does the trick. I had a Softail Std. 05. Sold it in 2008. With wife, and 3 kids I had decided to stop riding for a while. I do miss it alot.
It's a good day when you buy your bike and it's a sad day when you sell it.....
I understand completely, you gotta do what you gotta do....
That seat changes the entire look of the bike!
Looks great from the rear with the fat tire, and the blue flame stitching on the seat ties the flames on the rear fender and gas tank together... Very Nice!
Oh, shoot!, Now I wanna go for a ride, but it's snowing outside!!!
OUCH (PART 1) Ahhhh! I don't like to think about it too much! Back in my 20's we (3 or 4 riders) were out at night. Left an establishment and the road was being resurfaced.. My front tire hit the 2-3 inch tall 90 degree raised section of asphalt and I went down... Crash Bars>Good!!! Sparks grinding, shooting behind me... My hip>Bad!!! That freakin' hurt! I got back on and I've owned about 14 HD's since then! Knock wood/so far so good! Your ordeal may have been worse...Sorry! See PART 2. Geo.
The new seat attaches to the motorcycle frame with the 2 Bolts provided.
The gap changes from 4-5 inches on the factory seat to approximately 1/2 inch on the Danny Gray seat. The seat drops a tad when you put all of your weight on it, but it is still attached to the frame on both sides above the fender, so it should not rub on the rear fender. Danny Gray provided 2 pieces of clear stick-on plastic that you can apply to the fender at the area below the seat for protection if needed.
@geofatboy grim question - ever dump a bike? i had an accident last oct and wonder if i should get back on saddle again. btw excellent shaving videos.
I remember a friend, broke his leg in a bike accident, was on his bike a couple days later with the full cast from hip to ankle... Hmmm, sometimes you gotta question a guy's sanity, right??
He races motorcycles now, so yeah, I know he's a true Daredevil!!!
I'm sorry to hear about your misfortune...
Bottom line, you gotta do what you feel comfortable with, if you have kids, wife, (I do) you need to add that into the equation.
@geofatboy thanks for the input. my incident was at night too. decided to show off in front of others and sped up to pass them... along comes a sharp onramp that was hidden by darkness. stabbed brakes, dreaded front wheel skid, bike dumps, i fly off...broke my ankle. unfortunately it was totaled.
Needless to say, no more night riding, if i ever get back to it...

Those bolts......Ahhhhhhhh!!!!!
I would think Harley could come up with something different, easier to remove and replace.
Enjoy your new ride,,,, solo, without a passenger to worry about!

I've answered over Five Thousand questions about shaving, relating to my Youtube channel and webstore ShaveNationdotcom.
So to answer your question, yes, I guess I do.
Are you looking for a nice Old Skool Safety or Straight Razor?
Anything I can help you with?

No worries mate!
I would ride with it for a while as is....sans tape.
Keep checking after the first few rides if there are any faint marks on the fender where it might be touching.
If so, then worry about installing the tape.
A flexible piece of plastic or a squeegee will come in handy if you eventually decide on the plastic.
Enjoy!

Good video, is the DG seat any more comfortable than the factory seat?
clintgrockerc 7 months ago
@clintgrockerc
In my opinion, Yes.
It places you lower in the saddle and depending upon your height, makes it easy to place both feet flat on the ground.
Mine has a gel pad insert which helps in the comfort department as well.

The Bike works and looks fantastic with the DG seat installed.
I've had no problems whatsoever with the new solo seat.
BTW, I clock in at about 200 lbs....

Hello, thanks for posting this. Question: If you removed the gap between fender and seat, how does the suspension will work now?
