This is one of the best recordings of my generation (Maybe EVER)
I wore this song out the first month I played it and I bought it when it 1st came out. ended up buying this LP 3 times and even covering this song with my band I had together back then.
EVB, classic blues song, dual pysch/blues guitar, what more could anybody want. This was a great album("Love Is") that came out around the same week or so as the Beatles' "White Album". Guess which one got all the press.
Eric Burdon was not only the best singer of the sixties , he is the best singer of all time..and always will be..so of course i am totally agree he was the best singer of the sixties..so much talented..what a man..damn, what a voice..and thx..what a song!!!
Couldn't disagree more. I particularly like Eric Burdon's lyrical improvisation on this song. The style of this song is not orthodox blues, it almost has a psychedelic flavor, especially from the middle towards the end. The rap that you hate so much is ultra-cool and emotional to my ears. And it goes without saying Burdon's vocals here is much more explosive than Santana's version which you prefer.
@freudianslumber That rap almost kills what could have been a great performance. It isn't emotion, it's hamming. Burdon unhooks the real emotion when he sings the actual lyric---that's where the power lays in his performance. I wish the keyboard had weighed in more later in the song---it would have amplified what the two guitars were doing. Now, I wonder---how powerful would Burdon have been singing this song with Santana . . .
This is certainly the most interesting cover of this Albert King chestnut I've ever heard. The guitar exchanges are interesting. But I could have lived without that B.S. rap of Burdon's in the beginning. Talk about biting the hand that fed him! He should have just torn into the song. (And quit botching the signature lyric!)
I find it's not good, really, and the guitar's sound is awful.. For exemple the Jimmy Johnson's version is totally better; emotion, powerful, true,...
I saw the band on their last Calif. stop on their last tour before breaking up. Zoot Money and Andy Summer (later of the Police) were in the group. I remember the show was so crazy. I was in front of the stage....very low risers then....I was getting crushed by people jamming the stage, so I crawled up on stage an hung out behind Zoot. No one stopped me or tried to kick me off. It was cool and Zoot was a hoot.
I remember having to buy this album and it was shipped from Japan because it was out of print in the US.
The difference between this version and most other versions is the piano throughout the song and the battling guitars. It's just an amazing piece of work.
have that lp and met the man in the flesh in 2001 at his booksigning for his second autobiography in haight street. Guess he's still working on the rights for his first autobio.
The best version of this great song is by Marie-Laure Béraud, ex-girlfriend of Belgian singer Arno and a very fine singer in her own right. The way she sings As The Years Go Passing By is very subdued but she sends more shivers down your spine than Eric & Gary together, no offense.
you think that you have left me behind and that with your other man you re safe and you re away from me but... one of these day you re gonna break down and cry
Love is, además, tiene otras fantásticas, como To love somebody o River deep..
Eric Burdon and The Animals are the most underappreciated band and vocalist. Burdon voice is fantastic, really soulful. Spread the good word. Tell your children
Read his autobiography, which came out about five years ago. You can't put it down. It's beyond outrageous and funny and oh lord, all those acid trips he took!
This is one of the greatest songs ever recorded. The group at this time is all from the states where Eric was living. The ablum this comes from is a must if you like Eric he is at his very best at this point. You can feel the heart and soul of the greatest white blus singer of all time. IT DON'T GET ANY BETTER THEN THIS!
According to wikipedia all the musicians are English. Burden and the original animals drummer, a guy form family on guitar, Zoot money on keys and bass and his pal Andy Summers (yes him!) on guitar. I suspect that may be him doing wah parts check youtube for world war three by Dantalians chariot for more amazing Summers wah. (wrongly spelled Dantalions chariot is the only version of ww3 on here)
it's a shame you see so few comments on a song like this... i discovered eric about 2months ago and since then i listen to him every single day. he shooked me with this cover over santana
I do believe Eric was one of the best singers of the 60's! The way he was pouring out his emotions and energy!... And this has to be also one of the best Blues songs ever!... The "guitar duelling" is awesome!!! ...and coming from a drummer freak, that says a lot!!! ;-)
What a great blues song and voice in Eric Burden! I remembering this LP on so many occasions with so many friends, and in many different situations....enough said! LOL One of the very best white blues singers ever to come around, just my opinion tho. yeah, nice guitar indeed....right on Eric...... what a pleasure all these years of listening.....
