A few months ago I posted concerning this song and Larry Gatlin. I would like to take this opportunity to apologize. Said some pretty ugly things. But I have revisited this song several times. It is now my humble opinion that Mr Gatlin sang nothing that wasn' t true and was not disrespectful to Mr Cash. In fact he is paying his respects. Not only to Mr Cash, but to several legends. Mr Gatlin, please accept my apology.

I disagree, I don't think JC would have worded the song like it is. TO BLURT OUT JOHNNY CASH IS DEAD AND HIS HOUSE BURNED DOWN...IS A POOR WAY TO HONOR SOMEBODY!! IF this sentence had shown some compassion for an icon of JC'S STATUS dying and his home being lost by fire..it would be acceptable! Cash & Larry Gatlin were best of friends! Cash wrote, helped write most of their first album, The Pilgrim. It was called that because Cash said they were "new" & "fresh" paving a new way. This album this song is on is called Pilgrimage & John Carter Cash helped produce it he knew what was on there & if the son of the man in black is fine with it I sure am! (...to be continued 1 of 2)

The point of the song is there will only be one Johnny Cash, and his house burning down was like the door was closed behind him forever, the end of an era, so to speak. Your example just describes Waylon's personal tragedy and nothing more. So it's not the same.

I think the wording on parts of this song is of poor taste! Maybe if he had more class it could have been worded differently..but to blurt out johnny Cash is dead and his house burned down...like one would say "I'm going for a walk" lacks class and is hurtful to his dgts.
