I'm pretty sure the Polysics version of My Sharona was more of a homage to DEVO and their cover of Can't Get No Satisfaction than the original The Knack song. It's meant to be robotic and cold version of an extremely energetic and human song.

I think it's interesting how different their songs actually sound, even though there are so many similar traits running through them.

Things like vocoders and talkboxes (if they're not the same thing) operate so that they get only how the word or sound is formed by the user's voice. The pitch is determined by a keyboard or possibly a guitar. Therefore, what one's voice sounds like shouldn't effect the final sound that comes out.

The song is obviously called 'My Sharona' and it's by a Japanese band (I think they're Japanese) called Polysics. If you want the song, I could maybe send it to you - my internet is weak and periodic at the moment though...

I don't thik it's so bad. I like it way more than the original. I'm a HUGE Polysics fan, I've seen them in concert, and their music is AWESOME!! And yes--They ARE Japanese. Would you believe that's a GIRL singing this song? She's doing it through a vocoder.
