  • hahahaha frustrated reed maker! instead of swearing your head off.. why not try burning it instead xD

  • What a monstrous way to end a reeds life. But since it cracked, it must of felt amazing to just watch it burn.

  • remember pyro manic/oboe reed rule one. Fire Burns Up

  • you wont beleive how many times ive wanted to do tht

  • BWAHAHA!!! wat is an oboe reed? U gotta be pathetuc not to kno wat one is! U plat the oboe, so i kno that the oboe reed us the most important piece to the oboe!

  • Actually, they're like $15 dallors! And hand made ones r even more expensive! Wat a waste! Did u see the smoke comin out of the other end? I play the pboe so i kno how precious oboe reeds r!

  • @For3ver123 In England shop bought ones range from £7 for a beginners one to well over £20 for more professional ones. Hand made ones are actually much cheaper. Once you've bought the equipment (one-off cost) reeds can be made for about £1 each for beginners (if you reuse the staples) to about £2.50 - £3 if you buy more expensive cane, for more experienced players. So actually making your own reeds is cheaper than buying them, also more reliable because you know exactly how you like them scraped

  • @ellze17 uhh... im not from england so its different

  • @For3ver123 Well then cane for making reeds is ridiculously overpriced wherever you are. Come to England :)

  • @ellze17 lol wish i could, it seems like a really cool place. but im from Vermont(next to new york, in america) so yeah... plus the fact that we have to pay 6% tax means its expensive. my music teacher orders them, but i have to be the one who pays...

  • HOW COULD YOU ONE DECENT OBOE REED IS LIKE SIX DOLLARS!!!! ^O^ i like lesher reeds their string is pretty and bright but charles last longer :P

  • I love how the smoke comes out of the bottom of the reed LMAO.

  • You only burn the great reeds that you retire after they no longer work I burn them then cut the twine and keep the staple. lol

  • this is the worst.

    whyyyyyy?

  • Who lites a reed on fire????

  • Wow, burning reeds sound beautiful.

  • what if the reeds children were watching!?

  • are u crazy?? One reed is so ex... and u burn it?! Instead of using it???? Give it to me if u dont want it

  • THIS IS & ABOMINATION! I PLAY THE OBOE.. I HAEV A PLASTIC REED! UUUGGHHHF* *Cawf-Cawf* YHUR DED 2 MEHH! DEAD I SAY. DEAD!

  • NO

    I CANT WATCH!!!

HOW COULD YOU DOOO THIS!?? U SICK ANIMAL! *dies*

  • and the smokes comes out on the other side, lol :D

  • oooh, it's cruel!

    but so funny ;D

  • oh how much i would love to do this to the piece of crap oboe i play on

  • lol a flute in the background really?...

  • I think Ima cryy!

  • I should hate it..... But I love it. xD

    *shields my oboe's fake eyes*

  • Lol my oboe reed is being crappy to me. Gonna get a new one then burn it :D

  • I've threatened to do this on numerous occasions, but never actually got around to it. Kudos- you're my hero for the day.

  • I suggest you watch the video about aborted babies. It's slightly less horrible.

  • R.I.P the oboe reed D':

  • this is cool

  • dude why would you do that they are flipen $12.00 a piece!!!!!!!!!!

  • I see you got all fired up about this.

  • what are oboe reeds?

  • lol. oboe reed candle. imagine playing that. imma try that.

  • Remember, if you're lost in the woods in the winter and need to make a fire, oboe reeds make poor kindling.

  • haha. i did that to one of minwhen it got old. it was really funny. the pieces of cane bent backwards though.

  • everyone who watches this has way too much free time...

  • Ahh, this was so sad *sniffs* =p x

  • i keep the bottom of oboe reeds

  • i burn my reed... not intentionally, there was a flappy plastic which was very annoying, so i decided to let it stick by heating it over fire, then i burnt it.

  • I truly should do this to my reed that cracked right before playing the Nutcracker....and the one I was making the day before the first Nutcracker rehearsal...lol

  • that one must b chipped cuz those reeds cost

  • I have a box of broken reeds....now I know what to do with them.

  • oh my god, this cracks me up. a similar incident happened to me one time when a reed i'd tied really well cracked. I couldn't even scrape it. so instead of just untying it, i smashed it further......ahh....

  • I tried this once. If you leave a little bit of the reed intact, you can write with the tip.

  • You really could smoke through that. xD

  • lol smoke that

  • I want to do this to my reeds sometimes.

    >:[

  • Haha! I love the choice of music . Hopefully the smoke didn't mess up your staple, or no flames burnt it. :(

  • if that was a perfectly good reed then that is such a waste of money.. they r soo expensive it sucks!!

  • no he said he accidently broke it. so its ok!! lol

  • Lol. This wasn't bought, he said as he made the last stroke, which emans homemade. Actually quite cost effective, but you HAVE to practice or you will fudge the whole reed.

  • But it doesn't want to die! D=

I play flute, so I have no appreciation for the cost of a good reed. xP

  • haha! I prefer to smash mine into a nice, sturdy wall!

  • Thats something that I did to my oboe reed that failed me on my Oboe Solo in a festival lol!!! what a waste of 15 dollars

  • thats how much the Medium reeds costs!

  • waist f 12 buks

  • that was a waste of money!!

    they are soo incredibly expensive!!!!!

  • n-n-NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • if only......but i have totally ripped one apart before. lol the music. haha.

  • Screw it all, i've always wanted to do this but i have only smashed it with a hammer.

  • no one shall ever say how whimpy oboe reeds are how many tries was that? 3?

  • GRRR. YOU COULD'VE TAPED IT BACK TOGETHER! xD DAMN YOU AND YOUR MATCHES! LMAO REEDS ARE FRIGGEN 17 BUCKS AND 57 CENTS! GRAWR D< xD

  • Even more expensive for me in England.

  • Don't you make them yourself?!

  • this is a beautiful moment for any oboe player/ reed maker..

  • xxkid123 it's not the same one it's been cracked! You don't wanna do that trust me!

  • HUZZAH! Death to the reed that hath caused so much finicky trouble! Once you've spent so much time sheltering them from harm, you really want to kill them. :D

  • my god idiots

with the surface cracked you could have reapired it with a type of gummy glue dentists use to mold stuff in your mouth, i pretty sur yor local dentest could tell you were to get it

  • I don't mean to be insulting, but often reeds are beyond repair. It's a bit hard to tell someone what they should've done about it if you don't know the condition of the reed firsthand.

  • o, woops, with a crack down the middle my method is workable. but if your back or front piece bends or something like that it is a goner. so yeah i should have looked at the condition more.

    no offense taken

  • OMG you .... you dick head .... my f*** god ...

  • Comment removed

  • a little longer and we would have gotten to the saxophone parts ;) burn more next time hehehe

  • you should have put oil on it

it might have been mor dangerous but hey, whatever gets the job done

  • bassoon reeds burn way longer than that

  • This video scares me!!! poor oboe reed!

  • now thats a dead reed if I have ever seen one

  • HAha, you've never seen the reeds I break...I break them like no ones buisness. No i'm not proud of it...lol.

  • Haha I like it when the smoke comes out the end.

  • LOLOLOL!!!!

  • lmao

  • I buy mine from my private teacher. and they're expensive!!! 13$ apiece!

  • that is so cheap!!!!

  • really? wow, i hear that they're much cheaper self-made or internet bought.

  • I charge 18-20 a reed for my students (although I use professional staples and high quality cane). Most places you buy online handmade reeds are 20-25... if not more.

Also when I used to buy online I found the quality VERY low. It is cheaper and better quality to make your own or have your own teacher make/adjust them. Buying from across the country from a player you dont know gives strange results at times. I don't like to gamble.

  • ooooo, i guess i'm lucky then, but it's normally 15$ , she takes 2$ off if you give her back an old reed so she can recycle it into a new reed.

  • I give a discount too ;) it helps saving those staples I hate having to buy them all the time!

  • The smoke coming out of the bottom of the reed was AWESOME! :D

  • i feel like doing that 2 my reeds wen they stop sounding good

  • $20 for a professional reed. Here in NZ we pay $27 for a high grade reed!

  • Epic

  • Burn baby burn!

  • The new Cigarette.

  • um well my reeds are about 20 bucks a piece..but there proffesional

  • i bought 2 reeds for 20$ thats wen my band teach.told he got 10 for 25$ amro ripped me off!

  • I glitter my reeds!

  • Me to!

  • lmao!

  • First of all obviously they made the reed themselves, there not as expensive when you do that. Secondly expensive or not, reeds are completey useless once there broken no matter if they cost $1 or $500. So why not have fun. I always do horrible things to my reeds when they piss me off.

  • lol. so sad, dont the reeds cost a lot?

  • ROFL LMFAO HAHAHAHAH

  • That poor oboe reed!!! :( this is soo hard to watch!!

  • the poor reed but it was cracked i usually break mine into little peices

  • i couldnt bear watch it!!!!! aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • hi zipzap, i see that we are in the same businnes of working another way our reed, ches my making video lesson, just put OBOE PANAMA in the search box and see the one who starts with a panamenian student talking really well about how to make obow reeds...see you in Oboe Panama Festival 2008 in september..

  • he shoudve lit the string on fire

  • i make my own reeds and i understand your frustrating. i usually chuck my bad reeds against the wall but ill probably try burning them sometime now.

  • Heh.. It refused to die.

  • the music sure does go with the vid.. so peaceful... lol

  • nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo how dare you

  • how do u make ur own reeds

  • It takes a lot of learning and practice. You need to find somebody to teach you!

  • well, that was a waste of $11.50 lol

  • Lol, this person makes their own reeds. Plus 11 50 sounds like a very cheap and bad reed xD

  • whats a non cheap reed, mine are about 12.50

  • I unno, I think they would be the same price as bassoon reeds. Mine were 22 before my teacher made for me

  • my oboe reeds cost about $20, but sometimes I would love to do this to my reeds! I love you for doing this! It is so funny, I laughed from the very beginning!

  • Lol. Must have been bored. I should do this with my old calrinet reeds 0_O. Nice music btw! (yay for Bolero)

  • cool how the smoke came out the bottom

  • reed abuse!

  • This is sooooo stupid!!!!!! The oboe reeds I get are 11 dollars! You must hate all oboe players!!!

  • I am an oboist!!

I make my reeds myself.. that's the usual thing to do, at least here in Norway. Most people make their own reeds, unless they are beginners. I made this one and it cracked. So, why not? ;-)

  • Oh. Sorry.:)

  • must have been a bad reed eh?^^

  • Man, that thing just does not want to die! Reeds are tough creatures aren't they? They get the best of you even in death...

  • I HAVE ALWAYS WANTED TO DO THIS!!!

    =DDD

ty for doing something that i've dreamed of

  • I do recommend you to try this out for yourself. Be warned though; the tube/staple will smell like smoke for a long time afterwards! :-P

  • someone could smoke it with all the smoke comming out of the staple lol, o well.. sucks when a good reed breaks

  • Hmmm, now I'm getting ideas... next time stick the match up through the staple, or light the string on fire. Great inspirational vid!

  • there is also clarinet in background. Reed Rush, when wet, works just like sand paper except, doesnt make ur reed as rough.

  • ... oh! What a pity!

I do enjoy the clip... but my instructor told me I should keep all the ol' & useless reeds for practicing reed-making.

Anyways... thanks for making the video.

  • Maintenant on sait pourquoi il est interdit de fumer en jouant du hautbois.

  • amen to that...lol, i love this one.

  • That had me laughing so hard!!!!!!!!!!!!Now I know what I'm gonna do with my reeds when I'm done!!!! This is reed cruelty you know!!! Reed terrorist!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • oboe hobo!!! Yesh this is reed terriorisum!!!!! Made my giggle like a two year old girl on crack... long story!! *blushes* Terribly amusing though... I must say...

  • why a flute in the background??? why not oboe?? ooh... what pretty string :]

    matches scare me greatly o.o

    haha anyways... nice reed :]

  • Waste of a fine reed and oboe reeds are not cheap. But I enjoyed the video :-)

  • Point is, the reed broke when I was scraping it - it couldn't be used anyways. I made it myself, so it wasn't really that expensive.

  • i recommend reed rush, its a lot more accurate for adjusting ur reed. But i cant bring rush to school either, theyll think its drugs. And the reed knife is considered dangerous cuz its so sharp.

  • Haha, thats hilarious!

  • That's why she burned the reed ;) Silje, drit i kommentarene til folk :P oppbindingen trenger ikke være pen for at den ska funke ;) Tøft med Bolero, hihi :P

  • Hmm, det er ikke mitt rør! Men Eiriks....

  • What is the song playing in the background? I think it's a work of Bizet, though I can't place the title.

  • Wow, Bizet, no man!

    Ravel´s Bolero

    take care!

    bye

  • Made me laugh! Would be great if...since you've got Bolero going...you just kept lighting matches over and over and relighting the reed when the flame dwindled out.

  • Pretty lousy tie job, it looks like.
