I can relate to this song alot. The father was to protect her but, did not. My father was like the song and he did ask for forgiveness but, I could not. With everything he put me through it makes it really hard to forgive him. I tried but, in the end I can't bring myself to do it.

i love it when he asks for forgiveness and she says "I've already tried." it's not easy to forgive someone like your father who betrayed your trust. who let bad things happen when he was supposed to be the protector. but he let things unravel, fall apart, and seemingly did not care at the time who he hurt. i don't know if i'll ever be able to forgive my dad for what he did to me in my heart of hearts, but i can move on. :)

Everyone has a different opinion on what this song means, to me its saying a young girl is suffering the pain of her father never being there and her mom is always there but working at home. One day the girl gets home from school and her mother is not there to possibly just say welcome home because she left and her father calls the young daughters name. The dad asked for forgiveness ans she gave is to him making the girl the angel in disguise from the pain she goes through

i didn't think of it of sexual abuse before when i listened to it. But it was more than clear it was with some difficult conflicts in the family. How it started it seemed like the daughter was rather fed up with it and ran away from home. And when she came back her mom left. That is how i saw it (it kinda relates to what happened in my own family)

The song is about a father was abusing both the kids and the mother. The Mother was an angel for the kids and really saved them from any more pain and emotional torture. However, later the mother is no longer there when the daughter comes home (it is unclear what happens to the mother whether it was divorce or death). the young daughter arrives home from what seems college or some trip, her father comes in realization of his crime against her and asks for forgiveness.

@zachellis0 I always figured this song was about a cheating husband. Who has "meetings" with his daughter, trying to keep the affair a secret. The daughter tells the mom, making the daughter the angel in disguise for telling mom. Of course the father thinks only the daughter knows. Seems like the mom tries to give the dad a second chance when she calls her husband. Which end up driving mom away. Dad is upset and tries to apologize to his daughter in vein.
