  • Very helpful. This reminds me of how the Sony pocket reader handles PDFs.

  • great review thanks. The pdf reader isnt perfect and this is the thing thats been holding me off buying an e reader but this is pretty acceptable now I think I could live with one now.

  • why goes it black when u turn the pages..it annoys me

  • What is the best reader for viewing PDFs? I have 6 1000 page pdf documents I need to read and the kindle just doesn't cut it too small and the diagrams are unreadable. any suggestions?

  • @nervouss Try a tablet of some sort. People I know throw all their pdf files onto the BlackBerry Playbook or Ipad and read them off that. You can obviously look into other tablets, but those are the two predominant ones on the market. You're basically turning a tablet into a light 6000 page book!

  • @HatsOffToTheGoodGuys

But those, with their backlit displays, are not as light on the eyes.

  • Can you show us how typing is done on it? Is it much hassle?

  • Based on this video, I will probably NOT buy the new Kindle Touch. I will be primarily reading copyright-expired classics on Google Books in PDF format. Not interested in reading the converted format of ePUB or AZW. Too many typos and formatting errors.

Am currently reading these PDF Google Books on my iPad via a PDF reader--PDF Expert, to be exact. But iPad is not good for outdoor reading. Was hoping the new Kindle Touch can fit the bill, but this vid shows that its screen is too small!

  • @wtzftw You can get loads of free books for the Kindle, which are all Gutenberg/out of copyright. I would just go straight to the Project Guternberg site and download them there, in Kindle, HTML/TXT or PDF. I may buy a kindle just to conveniently store and read all these free books without killing my eyes an recharging a laptop or tablet.

  • @stuartbray73

I have about 300 pdf files from various of my favorite authors, like carl jung, whitley strieber, joseph campbell, etc, and none of them are available as public domain titles. I don't want limited selection. I want the ability to transfer any and all PDF files at will.

  • I WAS GONNA GO BUY THIS UNTILL I SAW THIS VIDEO...sorry for the caps....this is why i been hesitating in the first place i don want to be resizing on every single page....is this really the only optiion?

  • I have all dx (brother), kindle 3 (my kid), ipad 1, ipad 2. I bought the kindle recently and love it sportability since I am a busy dad. The problem with Kindle 3 is it can't handle pdf format well (size). I then looked over to my brother's DX. Work well too but I found out that I am not a "serious reader" who reads for hours. I installed kindle app on Ipad and love it. I personally thinks it's better than Ibooks app

  • kindel 3 is beter it has a key bord

  • @SuperScruffypuppy yeah i know thats what i thought. how would you type in this thing? this kindle makes no sense, the touch one does. the kindle touch should have just been the 4th one.

  • Dude, Amazon does provide you with a way to convert your pdf's to the common kindle format. I don't know why you didn't mention it at all, and I don't like it.

PS: to convert pdfs, send the file to your @kindle.com email, subject must be "convert" w/o quotes, and that's it, you can get your book on your kindle via wifi whenever you want.

  • @iytenorio84 dude, if you know pdf you will probably learn that Amazon will NEVER succeed converting pdf to normal text. That was how pdf was popular in the first place. It has table, pictures and a bunch of layouts. Amazon is just html text/picture base.

kindle 4 doesn't allow landscape mode, we can zoom (like ipad) but small screen causes problem.

  • @iytenorio84

Can you do that on the kindle touch too? And does it have to be a file you have proof of purchase for? And does it convert images as well?

  • @Triangulove AFAIK (which is not that much), yes, you can convert any PDF to kindle format via the e-mail automatic service. It doesn't matter who created the document or how. BTW, there are ways to extract content, you know. IMO though, the resulting documents doesn't look any appealing... It's just an automatic conversion. Sure you will be able to read the text, but you yourself could do a better job if you had enough time + the correct editor (maybe Calibre...?).

  • @iytenorio84

How do images end up looking? That is very important to me that images look alright after the conversion process. They don't have to look perfect, but as long as you can tell what you're looking at.

  • @Triangulove I'm sorry, I don't know... I've read manga in my Kindle 3rd gen, but these came directly from JPG, not PDF. Best advice, keep looking for a good review...

  • @iytenorio84 hey there, does this service works on all pdfs automatically?

  • @ramivei AFAIK, yes. I think there may be some features that end up lost in translation (newest ones, more likely), but text, images, etc will work OK.

  • @amazopia, is it possible to highlight text in pdf documents?

  • I like how the backgrounds change at each standby haha :D

  • what if you rotate without zooming? does the image expands to fit better or it stays the same size than in vertical mode? thanks :D

  • @amazopia

Are you payed by amazon? How can you say it's not that big of a deal to have to re-align the page every time your turn the page.

Somehow after 200 times doing it I think even the most patient of people would start to find it annoying.

  • @Amaguqas Paid not payed--it is never spelled that way. You need a check-up from the neck-up.™

  • @Amaguqas Relax, go to calibre-ebook(dot)com and download the converter. it works perfect for my kindle 4. then you can change the font size etc.

  • Let us know how the dictionary works with the PDF document words... NOT :) Try the Sonys for a change

  • after viewing the video, I mad a decision: not to buy it :)

  • @phatbieu me too :)

  • Useful and well explained, thx for the video.

  • Hi, I liked a lot your video. Could you make a little review of the kindle 4 in the view of a two column pdf?

  • how have you loaded your pdf ?

  • @vovasoft You plug in your kindle and just drag the pdfs into the documents folder, easy peasy.

  • @Slizzard73 yes. thanks. I already bought it.

The only thing is when page scrolling a pdf it makes that flash every time.

  • Works better than I thought. Although I do think it's a big deal the zoom position shifts when you change pages. I hope they fix that in future firmware updates. Great review, thanks!

  • @moronigranja You can download ebooks in .mobi instead of .pdf and it is a lot easier, it looks just like a normal kindle book you would download. This is what i do.

  • I was looking for this kind of review. Can you say that in the kindle touch would be more easy to handle pdf files? I have a lot of them and I'm considering buying a kindle touch. Thanks

  • @jfpuerta If you look on the web you can find tons of converters that convert .pdf files to .mobi files, this makes them much easier to read without all of the pesky zooming.

  • @Slizzard73

Converting only seems to work well if the PDF has simple text formatting and no pictures mixed in with the text.

  • Got yourself a mac book air?

  • Very informative.

  • Nice

  • good to see pdfs do real well, even if w/a bit of tweaking - i'd seen a few comments from folk on some sites wondering if pdfs worked on the kindle, glad they do

    nice demo, thanks much

  • First view and comment!! Wooo! Good video by the way lol
