Nothing, it's just the way the pieces are played in chess. The King is the most important, but it is also the weakest (moving one space at a time and if it is "trapped" it's game over). The Queen is more of a "attacker" (moving all over the board). So I just based them on that. :)

They Should Have 2 moves unique to those pokemon:

Check: The Chess Pokemon intimidates the enemy by making it stare into its gem. The opponent must stand guard next turn, to protect itself from any damage the gem might do.

I had an idea of a ice, normal type pokemon. It's based on mountain goat. It has three evolutions. First looks like small goat with small horns named ChillBili. Evolves to Chiligoat (has pointed horns and icicles coming out on its back & has icy looking hoove gloves. Both of them are on all fours. Chiligoat evolves to FROZRAM(big Ram standing on two legs with big arms and icicles comin out of them. The horns are wrapped around themselves like a real ram. He has a tuff of fur on his chest. The king may be the most important piece as it's the key to winning/losing the game but it's the queen who is one of the main attackers since it can move all over the board and is able to protect the king.

@Twime777 well think logically for a moment, a bishop in our world is a male priest or higher level cardinal in the cathedral of the Catholic religion; so if you made the Bishops male then the Rooks could be females. :P

@Twime777 also just to add to it, if you look at a bishop chess piece it looks like a bishop in the catholic church, so it only makes sense. The Rooks could have like a mini-crown on their heads. Since they do look like a castle.

@Twime777 ranking wise it would go from lowest to highest pawn knight rook bishop queen then king. Bishops & Rooks are about equal to each other. It's just that Rooks are only able to move forward & back & from side to side. While Bishops are only able to move Corner to Corner. In always a Diagonal motion. So you could do something like Rooks are the type to confront you head on or sneak up from behind & could possibly blindside you. For Bishops you can say that they always like to flank you.

@Twime777 I think the fully evolved forms should be switched. The queen can only move in any direction only one step at a time while the king can move anywhere in all directions. Therefore the Male should be the faster of the two.

I based them on how chess pieces move. Although the King is the most important, it's also pretty weak. That's the point of chess, to protect the King or it's game over. Althought the King would be ok in a one on one match since it's strong, but speed wise it would struggle with 2 faster enemies or more. Anyway I'm glad you liked :)
