@QueenOfOpal123 i dont know if you checked but ... this video was made in 2008 so ... i dont know what to tell you go buy some dart frogs from on line just save your money and buy some frogs ... you got this far as makeing the setup how ever long it will take you to get the money to buy the frogs wont kill you
@QueenOfOpal123 its cool bro you did in fact had a real nice setup at the time and a good idea to convert a closet into a darfrog room they make alot of noise at night so i might do that for my darts in the future .. just saying if you do diceid to set up a dart frog tank for the last time it would be great to see how it gos so you can wow me again never too young or old for the dart frog hobby :)
@2704heatherwolf Yes, they do Look it up! they don't eat the poisonous millipedes, and centipedes etc. They get the poison from them which they store in their skin if you wanna get technical.
ummm im confused on animal planet it said dart frogs are one of the most poisoness animals in the world but lots of people keep them. is there a certain kind of dart frog that isnt poisoness?
@aflpds9 Okk. The poison dart frogs lose their poison in captivity because of the loss of their toxic diet. All their toxins come from their food which make them poisonous.! In the wild they constantly eat toxic bugs. Technically all pdfs are poisonous, It all depends on their diet , if their poisonous or not.
@lilreptileboy310 i wouldnt try if i were you. BUT my fire salamander lives in a 20 g tall with a dumpy tree frog and a long tailed grass lizard and a bunch of fish
@etwchamps, if there kept captive for awhile, there poison just wears off. it grew stronger in the wild because us, humans, wreck there habitat and they grew stronger poisions
@grahamrocks1 lol this is wrong. Their poison comes from the insects they eat in the wild. In captivity they eat mainly fruit flies which contain no poison.
how have to set up the drainage sysyem? I am in the process of build a custom terrarium for my 2 R.E.T.F, and i want to adapt a drainages system as the rain system and humidifier bring the water level up. i dont want this to happen in my new build. I plan to have fish in the bottom of the terra with a massive over hang on one half with a custom waterfall on that half that cicles water over the over hang into the water with the fish. i was going to add a turn lever tap at the bottom on the side.
No, actually, they are a common parasite that resides in the frog's stool. Some breeders will save the parasite with hopes that it will grow limbs and emerge from the water to start the cycle over again. The more you know!
I am building a pdf tank soon and am curious to know how you did your drain system. What kind of bit you used to drill the tank, what kind of gaskets etc. I assume you used a shower drain type thing for the top correct?
Wow nice drain system. Might be stealing that idea in the future. hehe. Love the mister too, impressive. Have an idiot question though; what is the blue stuff in the water with the eggs in the petri dishes? I assume its some sort of fungus repellant, but what brand name is it and what concentration is used? Thanks!
how would you adapt this type of system for something like a 100 gallon tank? I'm thinking of converting mine into a dart frog vivarium in my front room
I am selling all my frogs and tanks right now if you are in Los Angeles and interested, please contact me. Thanks for all the comments on my video too!
ONE BIG WOW!!!! its really a cool and very tight set-up for the world second most poisonous animal... i mean "animal" or the whole living species rather! so sad even though Poison Dart Frog would be the coolest pet you may ever have but still you could'nt be too careless about it... i got my death stalker scorp its the only thing i could manage to take care of.... but with that extensive care and prevention is a MUST if you still care for your life... Nice Bro keep it up and LONG LIVED OK
Posion dart frogs apparently don't produce their own toxins they derive them from the posionous plants and insects they eat in the wild, the toxin of which they are immune to.
Captive bred frogs are non toxic so he should lead a good long life. :)
Wow a scorpion, that sounds like a pretty cool pet. Are they difficult to keep?
Actually, all domestically bred poison darts are safe to own. There's something about what they consume in the wild that allows them to secret toxins through their skin. At least that's what I've read-I'm no amphibian keeper :)
Cool room, i especialy love the person brushing their teeth in the backround...I really wish you had those guys in a 15-20 gallon but other than that i geuss its decent.
dude i am not a frog fan but this is amazing and at lease you chose poison dart frogs. these are really gorgeous specimens and it is awesome that you have petridishes with inseminated eggs and tadpoles
I think the reason he dont have a tank just for the tads is because some species of frog tads tend to be cannibalistic..sorry if thats spelled wrong :P with dart frog tads its best to keep the seperate
hey u got bettas aswell kool i got a room full of them i hav to albino frog they laid eggs and ate them and laid some more eggs and then i took them out and put them in a larger tank quater filled water so the tadpoles wont die and some rock when they turn into froglets plus plants nice room and is really good you must of spent alot of money

@aflpds9 wild dart frogs are poisonous. Something that they eat is excreted in their skin, so they are toxic, captive animals do not get this food
