the idea of law never can over come nature but what makes us human is breaking natural laws. One cannot truly love until they truly hate. truth is hidden because its power defies law
The activity of lawyers/bureaucrats is counted as part of a nation's GDP, therefore, it's profitable for a gvnmnt to hve all their laws coz it creates the possibility of lengthy trials etc, and thus a bigger GDP. So these complexities aren't seen as restricting, but rather, as 'healthy' for a country's appearance statistically. Our modern world is run by what could easily be called gang lords (the elite). Probably like the kind that the Buddhists invented Kung Fu to defend themselves against!
This show is timeless and really stood apart from the other pedestrian offerings on TV then and now. Thanks for posting the old clips from this show. Ugh, dullards using this fine clip as a soapbox to air their petty grievances about religion. How about...Hegel failed in his attempt to show that Aristotle's laws of logic misconstrued reality. There, that's more relevant to the clip.
"we now live in a world where religious fanatics are using the scriptures to justify committing the very evils that these holy doctrines were intended to prevent." It's a shame that the truth must be so grim. But, alas, it is. It is sad to see how far the tree of religion has grown from it's roots. Now, it seems that it's only fate is to topple over as a result of growing to a point that even it cannot sustain, and we are all to be negatively (or positively) effected from this tree's death.
@Mystrymeat You may find this quote useful: Through violence you may murder the liar, but you cannot murder the lie, nor establish the truth. Through violence you may murder the hater, but you do not murder hate. In fact, violence merely increases hate. So it goes. ... Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that. Martin Luther King
@Mystrymeat I'd rather say it is those holy doctrines that have come to the end of the road. The organizations maintaining them will crumble and leave the field open for new seeds to grow. This time religion will be more individually defined, not decreed by a holy bureaucrat at the top. There will be less church and more God. Before that, however, there will be a big noise.
@jannevellamo One can only hope you're right. Unfortunately, the overly-religious psychopaths in middle-eastern nations may get they're hands on large-scale weapons in an effort to keep their out-of-date beliefs alive and well. In which case, we have a problem.
@Mystrymeat Little did I know there was literally going to be a big noise in Japan the very next day after I wrote that. Of the 8,9 Richter kind. I should be more careful what I write.
I think we already have a problem with weapons of mass destruction and have had it since WW2. The most likely candidate to drop the bomb is Pakistan, as they're just inches away from becoming puppets for the Taleban and their financiers, the Saudis. To them, we're trespassing on Islamic soil in our own countries.
@jannevellamo Dammit, quit being such a prophet! On second thought... quick, say chocolate bunnies are going to start falling from the sky! Just do it! I'll get a plate ready.
@Mystrymeat Chocolate bunnies are going to start falling from the sky. Please god, let that not mean an explosion in a chocolate factory, or Mystrymeat might need a hardhat as well as a plate.
@Mystrymeat NNOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! Mystrymeat!!!! Ok God, you've done it again! I asked you to not blow up a chocolate factory and what do you do? You let Aliens bomb his house with a gigantic chocolate bunny!!!! This is really getting ridiculous, just like when I prophecized there was going to be a lot less pollution from air travel and you gave us the 9.11. Can't I ever get anything nice to predict? Just a minute, I have an idea! The sole survivor shall eat his way out of the ruins...
@Mystrymeat I'm seeing a lot of evil out there...but the only time "scripture" is actually mentioned is when people are blaming it for evil (I presume you're talking about the Bible). Since you feel this has become such a huge problem, can you enlighten us about which scriptures are being used to justify which evils? Because I keep hearing your arguement about how evil people use scriptures, but I never actually hear any scripture quoted these days (outside of church), so I think that's a lie.
@zachf777 I'm not the person who originally said that, which is why the opening statement is in quotations, but I'll answer anyway. People can use just about any biblical scriptures to justify their actions, whether it is actually justifiable or not is purely up to one's own perspective. One particular example would be the members of the Westboro Baptist Church, which parade about with hateful, anti-homosexual propaganda and use scriptures such as Leviticus 18:22 and 20:13 as justification.
@Mystrymeat Alright, you did give one example, but the "evils" that small group is doing seems in no way enough impact to "topple the tree of religion", not quite.
@zachf777 The WBC is only the tip of the iceberg. Are the infringed rights of groups such as gays simply for their orientation unimportant? Do the acts of violence, genocide, and ethnic cleansing committed by Muslim and Christian extremist groups such as the Orange Volunteers, IRA, KKK, Al Qaeda, Hezbolla, and other militant groups not suffice? Do these ongoing holy wars mean nothing? Perhaps religion's major role in politics is not reason enough for it to be considered a problem?
@Mystrymeat I never said it was unimportant, I said it was rare. Also, Muslims, al quaeda, hezbolla, etc don't use the Holy Bible, as I presumed you were referring to which you did not deny, but they instead use the quaran of course, which is not commonly thought of when the word "scripture" is used by most in America.
@Mystrymeat ...Secondly, as far as "Christian extremist groups"...You feel they're "using the scriptures to justify committing the very evils that these holy doctrines were intended to prevent", yet my point remains that it merely seems to be a popular catchphrase, but with no real truth or examples to substantiate it, other than the tiny wbc that you mentioned.
@zachf777 Firstly, you're correct, I didn't deny it because I seem to have skipped over it. My original comment was refering to religion as a whole, not just Christianity specifically. Technically speaking, the Abrahamic religions are all founded upon the Holy Bible, as the Qu'Ran is basically a re-working of its texts. Secondly, I'm not entirely sure if giving you quote after quote by members of various terroristic religious groups is really necessary, but if you insist...
@zachf777 Since you only seem to be disapproving of the statement in terms of the Bible, I'll only list examples regarding this book. The KKK quoted Rev 3:14 on their website as justification for their hateful belief system. Adolf frequently referenced the Bible (namely Rev 3:16) when influencing others with his speeches. The Army of God terrorist group quoted scriptures such as Lev 20:1-5, Lament 2:19, and Psalm 94:16 to justify their homicidal actions. Shall I go on or am I wasting my time?
@Mystrymeat I'm sorry, it looks like you're right. But I would like to add that although those "religions" you've mentioned may topple as stated in your original quote, the religion of the "holy doctrines" you mentioned will not.
I think the idea of the law, or handing out justice to people is inherently flawed. "Justice" is just a sophisticated way of saying "You wronged me and I want to hurt you back for it." even though this does nothing to solve the original problem. This isn't even considering that over half of the people who are sent to prison end up back there after being released. Punishment doesn't work. "Justice" is just a pretentious way to get revenge without having to feel immature about it.
@buckdich1 Actually, most justice in our system is administered by people that are not involve one way or the other with the crime. You think lawyers and judges are being immature to prosecute rapists and what not? What about if someone steals all your money? Is that pretentious immaturity for the courts to make them pay it back? Where do you people come up with this stuff?!
YYN, as usual, your preface is at LEAST as interesting as the video clip. Thanks for posting these KF clips, and for also sharing your views. ( LOL, how often do you hear that on Youtube? YT is arguably the greatest Bully Pulpit of all time... and it's largely overrun with airhead narcissists.)
Thank you so much my friend! Ironically it only takes me a few minutes to put a clip on Youtube, but I sometimes spend a few days writing the commentary. Therefore it's really great to know some people actually take the time to read it!
The beauty of Taoism is its rationality, its attempt to 'see' things as they truly are. Most people are rational and irrational. We've been conditioned to accept society's insanity, as sanity. In turn, we ourselves have become insane (not literally!) But we're not aware of this insanity. Taoism is NOT to be followed. NOT to be obeyed. It seeks only for 'you' to become aware of what 'IS' and 'IS NOT.' To empower yourself. And to see that.....ALL that you need is already present inside you.
I wholeheartedly agree with you my friend. The social engineer and futurist Jacque Fresco, says most of us are un-sane. He is the creator of The Venus Project, a sane vision for a future that is beyond a monetary system, politics and ideology.
We have been so thoroughly convinced by our current social paradigms, we remain oblivious to any other way. Tao gives us the clarity to see through the myths that perpetuates war, poverty and environmental destruction.
Hey there yingyangnature. Yes, I read your prologue to Taoism on your site. Very very heartbreaking story. It is amazing how pain is the great clarifier that helps shatter all previous illusions and questions all that we know. It overcomes ones own inertia of self assurance.
What is so amazing about Taoism, (I just recently discovered aspects of it two weeks prior and have been researching on your site), is that it makes so much SENSE.
In fact, just the other day I lost my temper at a friend, but instead of blowing up, I remembered detaching myself from the situation, and was able to calm myself and respond wisely to her. The Tao is trully a peaceful path!
