Great stuff! So glad that someone was recording it. Like so many of us, I spent all my time at the strips without a thought to shooting the history around me. I did a little bit better in southeast Asia a couple of years later, but I sure do regret missing out on capturing the essence of drag racing here in the south. Thanks for the great job.
Great film! I grew up in SoCal and, from 1964 until I was drafted (Vietnam) in 1969 I lived at Lions, Irwindale, OCIR, Fontana and Pomona. This stuff takes me back to some of the most enjoyable years of my life. Drag racing, back then, was all about guys working 40 hour a week jobs and then towing their cars (which they kept in someone's garage next to the washer & dryer) out for the weekend. Even Top Fuel operated that way ~ guys trying to make the $500-$1,000 Top Fuel money.
You just made my day!! Ran across this video... lookin for stuff from Martin, and MY DAD is on your video!!! "RUFF-N-REDDY" I was at Martin when i was 3 weeks old til about 3yrs old... but never remember watching my Dad race... THANK YOU!!! Showed this to Mom and Dad today( Mom was his tow car in a Yellow Dodge Dart) They LOVED it too, as well as everyone around here that remembers Ruff-n-Reddy, and the drags at Martin back then :)
@kibbiegirl1 I'm sure glad that you found my video! I can honestly say that of all the local racers back then "RUFF-N-READY" was my favorite! Me and my friends used to cheer for that car every time we saw it run! Thanks for watching and spreading the word!
John
P.S. You can see another clip of "RUFF-N-READY" on my video "Gassers At 131 Dragway in the "60S"
Great stuff, shame that I only have 35mm xlides of the old days here in australia, sure some would love 'em, anyhoo thanks once again you have done a huge service to the saving of hot rods history! Later OSSIE
Great time when things were simpler, muscle cars every where and some great music. At the end of sixties when living in Montreal I used to go to a track (Napierville) which was close to the border with NY state. Thanks for bringing back some memories of a magic period in time.
Absolutelyy magic. It brings back many memories of the end of the sixties when I was living in Montreal and to watchi racing at a track (Napierville) close to the border with NY state. Its still in operation but then lots of the top names used race there. From Don Garlits to Shirley "cha cha" Muldowney who was then running a twin Chevy gas dragster. Thanks again for a look back to a simpler period in time. The music great too. Best track CCR every made!!!!
thanks that was great to see old school racing really wish i could have been back there in the gasser days im building one now a thames and it would be nice to know the history of it well thank you for the great video
