rbt4rbt I think you are referring to the 2nd punch which he originates from the center line of his chest..a JKD punch. Yes maybe a boxing jab is quicker but that JKD punch is fast and as you can see explosively powerful as well.

Lee told Moore that he was going to throw a straight punch to the face, and all he had to do was to try and block it. @Allawishess First off, there is no benchmark for a type of punch used to show speed. Second, what people call fast is not really fast. Third, not everyone throws their truly fast punch 100% of the time, just like a pro bowler does not throw a strike each time. My channel has a vdeo of Bruce throwing FAST punches. All I'm saying, this is not one of them. A 270 ms punch is not fast even for this particular type of punch.
To be fair, it really is not a fast punch. Karate punches from the hip have to travel farther than a boxer's jab. From the start of Lee's punch to the point of his punch just short of that guy's jaw took 270 milliseconds. A fast jab takes about 170 ms. A fast visual reaction time is around 190 ms but training makes it faster yet. Lee is wonderful and a great fighter, but all I am saying is that long whip punch is slow compared to a jab.

@ahBadman My channel has videos. My website has many reaction time studies. That is a hobby of mine, reaction times. Yes, I'm boring. You can train reaction times to be faster. A person who can punch in that amount of time (190 ms) with no tel' is hard to stop. My robot arms give me a repeatable way of practice. I can adjust the speed. Bruce Lee believed in NOT giving a tel to any strike becuase he knew that the shorter reaction time you give the opponent, the better.
@june14211 Actually the "lol" come when people get in front of them thinking they can block them. Then, their ego gets hurt when they get hit, they make excuses, and you never see them again. I found that the robot arms just doesn't teach reaction times for someone, it teaches human behavior.

@Stcs94 You should throw Muay Thai in there as well to get some leg work into your arsenal. I trained as a boxer as a kid and in my first MT sparring session got tagged with some very good leg kicks which took away my mobility and leverage. Likewise, MT you can learn the basics and implement them in a reasonable period of time and not decades.

Lee appeared at the 1967 Long Beach International Karate Championships and performed various demonstrations, including the famous "unstoppable punch" against USKA world Karate champion Vic Moore. Lee told Moore that he was going to throw a straight punch to the face, and all he had to do was to try and block it. @Allawishess First off, there is no benchmark for a type of punch used to show speed. Second, what people call fast is not really fast. Third, not everyone throws their truly fast punch 100% of the time, just like a pro bowler does not throw a strike each time. My channel has a vdeo of Bruce throwing FAST punches. All I'm saying, this is not one of them. A 270 ms punch is not fast even for this particular type of punch.

To be fair, it really is not a fast punch. Karate punches from the hip have to travel farther than a boxer's jab. From the start of Lee's punch to the point of his punch just short of that guy's jaw took 270 milliseconds. A fast jab takes about 170 ms. A fast visual reaction time is around 190 ms but training makes it faster yet. Lee is wonderful and a great fighter, but all I am saying is that long whip punch is slow compared to a jab.

@ahBadman My channel has videos. My website has many reaction time studies. That is a hobby of mine, reaction times. Yes, I'm boring. You can train reaction times to be faster. A person who can punch in that amount of time (190 ms) with no tel' is hard to stop. My robot arms give me a repeatable way of practice. I can adjust the speed. Bruce Lee believed in NOT giving a tel to any strike becuase he knew that the shorter reaction time you give the opponent, the better.

@june14211 Actually the "lol" come when people get in front of them thinking they can block them. Then, their ego gets hurt when they get hit, they make excuses, and you never see them again. I found that the robot arms just doesn't teach reaction times for someone, it teaches human behavior.

@DensterNY yeah i can kick as well and elbows are pretty self explanitory but boxing and mma are acually different not just in styles but the pace. In mma no one ducks or dodges or anything. They just take blows to the head but boxing is more dpdging and weaving. Lol i dnt rlly like getting hit in the face so i prefer boxing. If im in a tight spot in the street tho i will kick and elbow

Bruce lee. Amazing fighter. Anyone can just open up a studio buy a black belt off amazon and try to pass off as a 9th degree. Most wuld believe him too. @Stcs94 You should throw Muay Thai in there as well to get some leg work into your arsenal. I trained as a boxer as a kid and in my first MT sparring session got tagged with some very good leg kicks which took away my mobility and leverage. Likewise, MT you can learn the basics and implement them in a reasonable period of time and not decades.

@Blestemul Actually, My instructor says that there are a FEW people outside the mMnastery stronger than most the monks here, he didn't tell me the reason though. I beleive he meant people very few, (he says that he is weaker than a monk his rank, so he was not pointing at himself)

But he was not a GREAT fighter since he didn't take part in any contests and everything we know about him is unverifiable and many a time smells like BS. It doesn't give an accurate story about Bruce Lee's life any more than 300 does about the battle of Thermopylae. Fact is, Bruce Lee's persona is more fiction than fact. @GodziraRules he was still the best fighter ever. he exercised every muscle in his body as if he were ready for war while every other "tournament champ" does it 2 win a contest under rules, regulations, & specific martial arts styles. if any of them were to get into a real fight with bruce with whatever form of martial arts they have mastered, bruce would make them sacrificial lambs. the man had no limits when it came to using the body as a weapon while every other fighter had a one-track mind.
