  • Most of the brands resemble each other, such as Polo Ralph Lauren, Gant, Tommy Hilfiger and Nautica. I'm starting to notice that some of Polo Ralph Lauren clothing, is becoming crappy, but some of his clothes that are sold in the Polo boutiques are very nice. I like his dressier clothes better, such as his blazers and dalton wool pants. His purple and black label are far better than all of the blue label and even green label clothing.

  • right when i thought HEY this channel doesn't have Thomas Pink on either of the two videos BAM!! there it was.. well done

  • J.Crew and Gant are crap and L.L. Bean is only recognizable if you're a news reporter standing in the rain reporting on a levee breaking in Wilkes Barre, PA. Most of Cole Haan is made in China and owned by Nike and can also be had for on the cheap at discount websites. I thing you need to remove some of the brands that have become popular amongst the working class in the coastal cities of New York, LA and FL.

  • aha!!

  • @Sophiers9 Yep you found it!

  • Is Fred Perry a preppy brand?

  • @TheMrMiah Yes, very preppy.

  • i came across this by accident and laughed my ass off. it was as if you went thru my closet. i swear i have about 95% of these brands. guess that makes me a preppy. ugh! it's always been about cut, quality and cloth. RL & burberry have style but there quality sucks. so sad. enjoyed this immensely. cheers!

  • I need help, I'm looking for some nice colored pants, i.e. red, green, yellow, that have a tailored fit to them and don't cost too much. Brooks barely had them in stock, and almost never in my size, and VV doesn't have any. Anyone know where I could find some nice pants?

  • I don't know if you're including bow tie/neck tie brands, but High Cotton is a nice new company. I assure you I'm not getting compensated for mentioning them ;) But I like how they send personal thank you noted with each order. Volunteer Traditions and Coast are two other new Southern companies. I like buying regional or local when I can.

  • @LordLoudoun They are very nice companies and of course they all qualify for being mentioned in my video but in the time I made this video I wasn't aware about those brands. I know a lot of prep brands but I don't know them all. It is nice to know that you support your local preppy companies. In this video I mentioned a few small prep clothing companies such as Kiel James Patrick and Knot Belts and others.

  • @preppychrisbou

I hope you didn't take it as a criticism, since I know you couldn't include everything. Just listing a few others for people watching the video so they stay in business, esp. since they are American made. I'd be fine if most people dressed preppy. To me its less of a club and more a sign a person takes care of their appearence, has traditional values, and is not suckered by fads. In short how our grandparents were taught to dress. Again nice video.

  • @LordLoudoun Don't worry :) I didn't thought it was criticism. Thanks for commenting on my videos.

  • I'm from Virginia (Richmond) and have lived in Williamsburg over six years and Closer 71's comments seem in poor taste. Like one whose class is based on money rather than education and manners.

There are lots of those types in Williamsburg and they're usually new money. Would Washington, Jefferson, or Lee talk like that? I think not.

I like this video...sure we can argue about a few brands. My new favorite is Southern Tide...esp their bright colors and comfort. best polo out there.

  • @LordLoudoun Hmmm, you sound like someone that might work at R. Bryant....

  • @closer71

West marine sells boating supplies.. Great video btw

  • Vineyard Vines and Lilly Pulitzer are my favorite places to shop! :-)

  • @MrJahka

I'm the one who mentioned J Press was missing, you ignorant douche. By the way, I'm in Los Angeles and Williamsburg, VA ya hick...

  • Not so sure if I'll toss my vote behind Ralph Lauren, they're kinda tacky these days, I guess its to appeal to the "international" market...Same kinda goes for Burberry (though their raincoat is still a classic), and as for Clarks, no way, I won't even look at them. All the others are fine though, and thanks for including vineyard vines, I love their service! :)

  • @HayabusaSenToTai Preps still wear a lot of RL even though is not my favorite brand. Some preps buy the Clark's Orininals such as as desert boots and Burberry for the classic raincoat and trench coat.

  • Hi everyone, I was just wondering, have any of you heard of Henri Lloyd? just wondering what your thoughts on the brand were?

  • J. Press is mentioned here, Nordstrom sells preppy stuff but it's not entirely preppy, West Marine might work for preps with some caution and yes, Cole Haan. Many preps wear Cole Haan Shoes. They have lots of true classic shoes like penny loafers, tassel loafers, buck shoes, classic horsebit, and other shoes that all preps love. Burberry is been a true preppy classic from dacades ago, and Most preps owns at least one Burberry trenchcoat. I recommend you to read The Official Preppy Handbook.

  • @preppychrisbou

I've read both books--the original more than 25 years ago--and...NO. Simply because a designer has a "history" of prep patronage doesn't guarantee they're still in favor with preps. Quality and frugality are hallmarks of prep buying habits and preps tend to gravitate to the archaic, no the "modern" so, again, NOT Burberry, NOT Cole Haan. Both are representative of prole drift at its most subtle...and sorry, I missed J Press in there; didn't see it.

  • @preppychrisbou

For the sake of clarity, I'm not belittling your efforts here. I enjoyed the video. Put simply: though Burberry has become quite vulgar, they continue to put out clothing and shoes of superb quality. On the other hand, Cole Haan retains their understated, preppy stance while churning out painfully inadequate products, all of which--and I mean nearly ALL--are "Made in China." Absolute garbage...

  • @closer71 I Agree about Burberry, they are not so classy in some of their stuff but they still have those classic prep must haves, same thing happens with Cole Haan.

There are many, many prep brands; I don't know them all or maybe I forgot a couple of them. With this video, I tried to do a little guide on where we shop and our favorite brands, but I know there are always more, and one should always keep ours eyes open everywhere because you never know where there will be a preppy treasure.

  • The person who assembled this little number comes close but still reveals their lack of prep credentials. Some glaring exclusions:

    J. Press, DAKS, Dunhill, Nordstrom, West Marine, among others. And seriously...Cole Haan? Maybe if you're in need of some prole trash for a Halloween costume! You may as well have said Kenneth "The Synthetic King" Cole! And Burberry? Ha! Ha! WTF? That's even more laughable than Cole Haan...

  • @closer71 And you should read True Prep. Both books by Lisa Birnbach.

  • @closer71

    J. Press is for actual preps. Go back to the RL sales at Macy's in your mall in the midwest.

  • @closer71 umm... wth? burberry is a must to anyone who is anyone preppy. And nordstrom has lacoste and such so yeah, nordstrom..

  • @closer71 umm... wth? burberry is a must to anyone who is anyone preppy. And nordstrom has lacoste and such so yeah, nordstrom.. great video btw-- what song r u using? thumbs up

  • @closer71 You think you are some real prep. Preps are nice and cultured and don't speak dirty like you do.

  • @lucyiloveyou

Actually, I am secure enough in my social status to say whatever I want; I don't worry about what proles might think of it. It does not appear you can say the same. Good day, sir!

  • Very nice and accurate video good sir. I noticed only one brand missing - Tommy Hilfiger. I believe it was in your first video, and Tommy Hilfiger still produces timeless preppy clothing.

  • @MrsAlSubaihi abercrombie is not preppy and i agree thats classic

  • I've been dressing prep since around 1977.............the oldest piece I have is a pair of wide-wale kelly green cords from The Lodge @ Harvard Square/Boston. And they still fit! Abercrombie used to be high prep until they sold out a few years back, and is pure crap now. "Fashion clothes" are for people who don't know who they are!

  • very good video. listed all the brands i wear and even showed me some new ones

  • @MrsAlSubaihi You just have great taste. By the way, true preps don't wear Abercrombie or any of those brands.

  • @preppychrisbou

Agreed. However, if your Abercrombie field jacket if from the 1960s or 70s, it is still okay to wear.

  • SOUTHERN PROPER!!!!!!!!!! ftw

  • @AyeOitsMATT Nautica can be an alternative. But it's not an original preppy brand, neither it's too well recognized as a true preppy brand.

  • Definitivamente me encantan tus videos. Son una muestra de la cultura preppy en la actualidad. Saludos!

  • @grupolaliberte Muchas gracias! :)
