  • @ZHFstudios He was really, he openly said that 'England, like Germany, is our hereditary enemy'.

  • Despite his anglophobia, I do have a sneaking admiration for Charles de Gaulle. I always have done, and I think UK Prime Ministers could learn a lot from him.

  • @dezboss the rest of the world couldn't care less about his "anglophopia". Doing so is totally redundant and prevents mature appreciation for what he stood for not just for France, but all humanity. Few if any leaders come close these days.

  • @emangi1 Well, we it was due to his anglophobia that the UK took until 1973 to join the EEC. So whether you like it or not, it marks something for us.

But there is no questioning De Gaulle's greatness in French and world history.

  • @dezboss that's a completely anecdotal and inconsequential argument when considering the greater scheme of things. Kind of proves my point.

  • @emangi1 Didn't you read the last line of my message for christ's sake?

  • Oui!

  • vive sarl de gaulle...he made a real independent france when he went out of nato and went to moscow...he was the best politician that frnce ever had

  • Well I wish we had listened to him here in UK. He seemed to understand more about this country than our politicians. He realised that Britains institutions could not be reconciled with EU membership. He was a man of remarkable insight.

  • @tincoffin I do agree to an extent. De Gaulle was an absolute pain who must have been a nightmare to work with, and I do believe the biggest reason he vetoed the UK's application to join the EEC was sheer anglophobia, but if you listen carefully to the political reasons he gave for refusing us to join, I think he had a point.

And this is coming from a patriotic Englishman, aswell as a commited Francophile and Europhile.

  • @dezboss I think we got him wrong in UK we saw him as a sort of Colonel Blimp figure when in fact he was an extraordinarily intelligent man . He certainly didn't care for the Brits but his remarks showed that he understood the country .

  • He never gave any credit the countries who liberated France. He even insulted them. He came to power when new industry was growing so economy went well. He made dictatorial constitution for France:The president has ultimate power. That corrupts every candidate. And still France despises its natural allies.

  • @Ebla2000 He, amongst other French leaders, politicians, and, in general, persons at large, emphasized and desired to project the influence and the cause of the (Free) French soldiers, patriotic resistants, paramilitary, and people at large who directly and indirectly fought and aided in the Allied cause, and the patroitic French liberatory and vengeful cause, of WWII. Their sizes and efforts have largely been quite underrated throughout history, ever since the Battle of France, in particular.

  • @Ebla2000 He, and some other French leaders, like Giraud, also didn't appreciate how various allied leaders, in particular some American, weren't so fond the Free French leadership, and what they truly stood for (i.e. a renewed France not to be punished by the Allies as having been a Axis collaborator).

Numerous French, also, still felt bitter about the British-led efforts in the evacuation of Allied forces at Dunkirk, and the British disabling of the French fleet in the Mediterranean Sea.

  • Vive la France XD

  • Le dernier mec à penser d'abord à son pays plutot qu'à sa carrière

  • un chef avec l'honneur

  • good old times. this man was simply genius. they know everything about history and politics.

  • Best leader ever!! Except for Quebec issue!

  • Yeah it's Vive la France ;)

  • "Vive la France" not "Viva l'France" mate ;-)
