Hard to imagine that some folks can say, without a trace of irony, that this plodding, meandering pop song is perfect or the greatest music ever written. It might sound ok playing over the credits of a fantasy video game but i d k what kind of happy pills your psychiatrist has you on to make you think so highly of this.
@misterbilbotbaggins I am sensing sarcasm, but not sure .. It's alright if you don't like this, but if you don't, then what are you doing on this forum? This is the perfect formula for atmospheric, melodic black metal.
@EvanesEmperor Sarcasm? So then you agree with the other posters, that this is possibly the best song ever written? I was here because I clicked on a link, and this isn't black metal. If you'd like to hear melodic black metal, may I direct you to: I am the Black Emperors or Inno A Satana by Emperor (or anything off their first LP) My Journey to the Stars or Key to the Gate by Burzum, or Gates to the Kingdom of Darkness by Graveland. Good luck and enjoy!
@misterbilbotbaggins@misterbilbotbaggins Okay, so it's not sarcasm. This IS black metal. It's atmospheric and different from the Norwegian, Swedish and other European counterparts. I didn't see your other comments, that is why I was asking. Yes, I know who Emperor, Burzum, and Graveland are. Just because this band doesn't sound as raw as the 2nd wave, doesn't mean they're not black metal. I should have looked at your back comments.
@EvanesEmperor You can call this pop song metal all you like, but that doesn't change the fact that it is pop and belongs in a Dragon Age video game. It's not a matter of "rawness." but of composition.
@misterbilbotbaggins You already used that argument. This belongs in a Wolves in the Throne Room video, not one of your nerd video games. I guess you would know what good pop sounds like right?
@EvanesEmperor By the way douche, you didn't pick the most "kvlt" of Emperor songs ... or Burzum , or even Graveland. Go spam another video -- You're such a wiener.
@EvanesEmperor Wiener? Wow, you hipsters can't even insult people properly. Guess I must have pushed your buttons since you're resorting to name calling.
@misterbilbotbaggins Nah, you're okay, just wrong, that's all Hipster. lol. Didn't think you knew what one was. What is "insulting you properly"? All I did was "insult you." As for composition: this band makes more than one song that beautifully written, not to mention intricate, erotic and aesthetic. Perhaps you can do better? I am still trying to figure out why you're on this forum if you don't like it.
@EvanesEmperor Oh, ok, glad to hear that we can still be friends. :) I don't think this band is bad per se, just saying that their intricate, erotic, aesthetic, and maybe even beautiful compositions would be a better fit with the dreampop / shoegaze / indie set than with warlike, angry, alienated black metal. I also think the guys who said this is the best song in the world had to be stoned out of their mind and exaggerating. I was also exaggerating a bit when I ripped on it. ;p
@misterbilbotbaggins It's true they aren't "Satanic", yes. They would fit in more of an Pagan overtone. They're angry, but angry for nature. Darkthrone, Mayhem, Emperor etc ad nauseam are angry for "Satan". Burzum (Varg) is angry for Nazi's. Tartaros sounds like a Scooby-Doo episode. Immortal are big fans of Kiss. (well Abbath is) Anyway, you can group and put all the band into sub-groups all you want, but who has time for that? Wait, I just did .. I am cuckoo for Coco-Puffs..
I think this is a great song! It's a good mix of different influences... I'm reminded of so many different bands/ genres within this song! It's a very awesome thing.. my opinion
@mentalholocaust The opinion of the artist is biased an not useful in determining the style or genre of a body of work, because the artist(s) will say whatever he/she/they want or think the music is, despite any evidence to the contrary. Wolves play black metal, despite what any of the members think they play. If their vocalist said that they played stoner sludge metal, it would not make it true. They all want to be unique, which is why they try to move away from simply the "black metal" tag.
@mentalholocaust dude, almost every band says they are not part of a particular genre, that doesn't mean they aren't. If they aren't black metal then what are they? Genre's are created to organize bands based on sound and fanbase. Just because a band says they aren't part of a particular genre doesn't mean they aren't. WITTR is black metal whether or not they say they are. They look black metal, sound black metal, they are black metal. problem solved.
@PandemicInfektion I understand what you're saying, but this person said he doesn't like female vocals in black metal, but this track doesn't even sound like black metal. If people always label a band something they say they are not these people are setting themselves up for a let down. If WITTR decided to do something new people will most likely bitch and cry that they lost the black metal sound they had. I think the new Morbid Angel album is a perfect example of what Im talking about.
@mentalholocaust Yeah I don't like it when people bitch about a new addition or sound of a new band either. Bands change, and so do people. If you don't like the sound of a new band then stop listening to them. take the time your spending on videos bitching about a bands new sound and spend that time listening to a band you do like. That's how I see it.
@aarr413 I see it as a way to show imperfections. Nothing in the world is perfect. They are just mortal people, and this is a way to show it. They can also contrast with the melodic beautifull passages to make them sound even better in comparision. The imperfections in the music makes it beautifull.
@ChordsFromTheVoid Yes I'd say so, my previous metal bands have played lots of shows, from the Whiskey a GoGo in Hollywood to the Queen Mary cruise ship in Long Beach. My tastes have only progressed/matured from the Burzum/Darkthrone/Emperor stuff I liked in my angsty teenage years.
@homelesshobo Please erase bmurraypunch's freakin' comment cause it really spoils your vid. Each time I want to check your vid I always look at it (cause it is absolutely mandatory as the screen shows the comment...) and I feel ebarrassed for the one who wrote that..... @_@'
Really unimpressed by this song. Face in a Night-Time Mirror pts.I and II are a good example of how to utilize female vocals in a metal ensemble. This sounds like they were doing a favor for someone.
@upthebikez Nah, dude. Most of WITTR's songs are direct ripoffs of Weakling and Nargoroth and that's because they steal riffs, not because they have the same producer.
@SixRhinoceros Being a fan of Nagoroth, I do agree they sound the same. Wether its to do with plagerism I don't know. However I do know that almost all black metal riffs are very similar, i've heard "Transilvanian Hunger" style riffs ridiculous amounts of times. All that aside, it doesn't really matter. The way I see it, they have made a fucking awesome song, no matter if they wrote the riff or not. No disrespect intended.
@AMpufnstuf they did change it man, but i LOVED the older logo much more, it was very mysterious compared to their current one. Plus that it made me check out the band in the first place.
For WITTR fans--check out L U D I C R A, from Oakland, CA. They are awesome, modern black metal band from the US, with a progressive tinge. Lyrically, they bring a new rhetoric to black metal. Songs about industrialization, decay, and the Individual. Heavy, haunting, beautiful, and thoughtful. Check 'em out.
@bollacaj wow i honestly thoght that music like this was like the last place to retreat to avoid people looking for "TOTALLY BR00TAL SHITZ DOOD!" I guess i was wrong.
Once in a while I'll go into a cd store and by a random disc from a band I've never heard of, let alone heard anything from before. I picked up WITTR and let me say, a better purchase could not have been made that day.

One of the greatest songs i've ever heard. Diadem of 12 Stars was amazing, but this is great to!

Wow, This is very good! It's very post-rock influenced, I still prefer The first two album though, seeing as something seems to be missing here...
