first heard an the "timeless" mix by lawrence on cocoon last year... since then.. every single day :). btw, if you are looking for this on vinyl, check out the slow to speak label, they put this on a single sided vinyl!
I remember Mona was at my place, he use to come up to Winnipeg and party, I was playing him the "Ron Trent Joshua Abacus Chez Damier - The Foot Therapy EP" and was oh is that Chez Damier, he wrote a song for me, I totally forgot about that until I found this upped, 1st time hearing it. Thanks!!
I bought an original pressing in mint condition of this record off of eBay about two years ago for like 10 bucks. Now this record is going for about $100. I remember the seller didn't even want to send it to me. Anyways, he told me he sold it because he was becoming a CD DJ and was getting rid of his vinyl.
@Animalinstinct89 Yes, this record is from 1995. However I think that gives the impression the song is as well, which would affect it's place in history, wouldn't it? That's why I noted that it's originally on Serious Grooves in 1993. Thanks.
This is just a masterpiece of a production, one of the best tunes I have discovered.
I'm only 20 but I love this type of music (and a big collector) , the stuff Chez Damier & Ron Trent (& the rest) were producing in 94 and 95 was incredible and this is one of the finest examples!
Just trying to get hold of this on 12", its not cheap nor easy but it will be in my collection :-)
...other styles. But its impossible to "keep it real" (in a traditional sense), because reality always changes. If a track itself never changes materially, the social context always does. If "Forever Monna" was not released 1995 but 2009 it would not be revolutionary anymore, it would rather be an "oldie", a reminiscent of past times. So strictly speaking, "to keep it real" would mean to create music which is revolutionary for our times/ for our social context and to accept changes and fusions.
There's no essence or nature of House or Techno. House and Techno are not natural but cultural phenomenons. Thus, the notion of "Techno" and "House" is historical and arbitrary. Its meaning depends on our definition. That said, we should rather ask ourselves which is our intention, when we try to make a sharp distinction between House and Techno. I think it is, because we want House and Techno to be "pure", to "keep it real", not to allow them to change, to progress or to melt together with...
