I used your video to learn the basics of the ply (where it becomes 3 plies....) and a few others to learn the spindle part. But now I'm waiting for my first spinning wheel to arrive......UPS should bring Monday. I'm like a little kid at Christmas. Or a big brat. Wanted to make sure I had the idea how to use a wheel to do this. Thanks for the clear demo.
I'm getting very even, Navaho plied, 18 wpi on a spindle. I've been told that is very good, so decided I could graduate with a wheel.
I tried to post a comment and I'm not sure it worked. Well, just to make sure: Thank you for posting this video! It demonstrated navajo plying so well, I got it right on my first try with no problems. Thanks! :)
I watched this video a few days ago. Today I decided to try navajo plying for the first time, and thanks to the super-slow-mo demonstration I had watched, I had no trouble at all! So I looked up your video again so I could say thanks for demonstrating this so well. Thank you! :)
Hello, you are my spinning angel! You are beyond great, thank you so much for these videos. I have a question for you . I keep hearing people talking about Navajo plying to "conserve the colors", what the heck does that mean? I have a lovely striped roving I want to spin and am not sure how to do it without ending up with muddy colors. Thanks again!
Hi !! Love love love your tutes, but I totally don't get this. I don't understand how you got from the loop you first created with the two knots, to the three strands you are holding.
It's just like finger crocheting only on a much larger scale. Did you watch the entire video? I don't know how much more clearer I could explain it! LOL
Thanks so much for clarifying this! I thought I got it before, but when I tired it, I made a mess. Now I think I get it finally. Many thanks!!! Bravo! Inga
I think I just unhinged my jaw. Awesome tutorial - even though I've spun exactly twice, I feel like I could go try this right now! Thank you so much, you've done a great job!
you are basically twisting a crocheted chain stitch! how utterly fascinating! I have not been this amazed since my children were born! yes, i live a boring life...lol!
Thank you, thank you, thank you! This video did as promised, and completely de-mystified the navajo plying process. I watched this video a couple of times yesterday afternoon, and couldn't wait to get home to try it. Last night I did my first navajo plying and was successful. Thank you again for posting this video.
That loud "thunk" you heard just now? That was the sound of all the pieces falling into place. Thank you for such a clear and detailed tutorial - I'm looking forward to watching your others!
Dear Rexenne, This is a great video and I really appreciate how detailed you made it! I have spun for 13 yrs but had No one to show me HOW to do this type of plying. thanks ever so much,
Your video is fantastic - the person who tried to show me this did it so fast even though I asked for a slower version. I was so frustrated I never even tried to Navajo ply. Your upbeat attitude makes learning a pleasure. It is easy to see that you really care about passing on good information to help others. BRAVA!!! I am going to watch all of your videos. Hugs - Donna
thank you, thank you, thank you...at lasta demo of navajo plying that actually made sense. now to exercise discipline and finish getting ready for my quilting class...I will not spin, I will not spin, I will not......
I'm a new spinner and never plied a yarn before I saw this vid. I got so excited I ran to get a single with a scrap of the yarn I started spinning with (not a nice fleece, to stubborn, but I never heard of predrafting when I spun with that). I navajo plied it, and now I have a nice piece of very uneven navajo plied yarn! There's a lot going on when doing this technique, but I'm going to master it! By watching this video over and over :D
thanx a lot from austria-europe. i can spin quiet even and thin single yarn, and i prefered to ply it navajo, but always only with dropspindle, becouse with the wheel it didnt work out.
you saved my life, hm, i mean my time! thank you thank you!
Great video Rexenne. I know how to Navajo ply (I thought) but I was never happy with the results. I think your video will help get a smoother yarn. I would love to see a video of Andean plying too. Thanks alot!
You can tell the difference aye? I notice a reduction in production time for sure! Instead of an hour for the project to be converted into an uploadable file...it takes 10 minutes!! Sweet!!!
OMG! My mind is totally boggled! This is *awesome*. I must go spin something just. so. I. can. try. this.

I was wondering if you are spinning your wheel in the opposite direction in which you created the single?? I am ready to try!

Wow... I'm trying to think about how I could do this with my ©Sling-Blade Handspinner.... No treadling for me, bum feet, no electric spinner yet.. I bet I can, with some practice and park and draft!
otterwench 2 years ago
i like your use of speed changes - very helpful to watch the coordination between treadle foot, pinch hand and loop hand! Thanks!
