  • Great player

  • Does anyone know what kind of strings Mintz is putting on the Il Cannone in this video? When he crumples up the package, you can briefly see the front of it. I believe that they are dominate strings. But I'm not sure.

  • does anybody know what the other violin is that is in the same case as the il Cannone?

  • @BBRENTTAGHAPP It's the Jean Baptiste Vuillame copy, it's an exact replica of the original. Even Paganinni had trouble telling the two apart!

  • 2 Complaints about this so called extraction of sound, 1- Paganini used no shoulder rest, no cushion, no chin rest. 2- Paganini used gut strings not synthetic/stee/metal/w-e! :3 IMO, any violation of those 2 complaints is simply defiling the style of pre 1820 Spohr violin playing and especially Paganini's style&sound. However, he does manage to play it with a beautiful sound. I do enjoy Mintz's art but this isn't authetic Paganini. :3

  • Yeeeaaaaaaaahhh............You might HAVE to change a string that's been sitting there for that long!!!

  • I have huge respect for Shlomo but he in my opinion did not "extract" the sound that Kogan was able to summon forth.

  • imagine playing the violin paganini toured and played with. awesome!

  • I like how he just holds the violin with his chin while he adjusts the bow.... The curator was probably shitting himself

  • @club349 No Doubt !!!! I was clinching me fists !!!

  • I will take that bad string;)

  • Someone can tell me what is the red thing in the scroll ??

  • I believe they put a red wax seal everytime the violin is hung in the safe--to indicate that it has not been tampered with--the seal is broken each time it is removed and then replaced

  • incorrect~ that red patch is actually a repair job done to the scroll by a past luthier who looked over the cannone. it is not known when that repair was made, but do keep in mind that prior to paganini obtaining the guarneri, it was used and abused by an amateur violinst, unfortunately.

  • you are right about the red seal, however, because there is a wax seal but not on the violin. past the golden ornamental doors lies the protective safe door that secures the cannone, there is a wax seal pressed on to a certification card and attached to the safe door everytime the violin doors are closed, broken each time the violin is accessed. it is a tradition that has been kept to wax 'seal' the violin doors by the city of genoa who watches over this violin as a treasure to the city.

  • It looks like wax to me...but considering its a very old instrument...i would think that it could possibly be an illy made repair.... Im pretty curious myself now that you mention it.

  • wow

  • Thank you! Just guessing... is it the whole movie?

  • not whole, i cut half of it to fit youtube's file size
