Most DiFranco songs go like this: "Tampons in a swirling sea of electric shavers drowning in an abyss of endless hackneyed talentless propositions of corporate greed and flushed down a toilet of meanderings in the subatomic postmodernist world of sightless pink bunnies and my vagina screams out 'do you love me, for real?' And I'm soffocating from words on a black page that I can't see because the music is too loud and those commie fascists are laying it on the line like a lesbian in a hookah bar
man, this woman is continually brilliant. i've been playing and writing my own stuff for 25 yrs or so, and just when i think i've come up with something good I'll listen to something from Ani, and think "damn. i gotta go practice"
Is there anything more beautiful than a radical human singing about deep truths?!? Add the context of the Philly Folk Festival, an artist in full bloom and at the peak of her observational, poetic, and performing powers and you find an inspiration that nourishes and emboldens me every time.
you got the hard cough of a chainsmoker, and youre at the arctic circle , playing strippoker *laughing* I love that chick, best lyrics above anyone i can think of :) cohen is the only one close to giving her a run for the money
@womby28 ? Are you saying that now that she's made her money, so she doesn't have to speak out anymore? Seriously, how do ya go from Your Next Bold Move or Subdivision to Yes We Can?
@deliciousmorton Hm, I'm not quite sure what you're asking. I did not say anything about money. I also don't know what you mean by, "How do ya go from Your Next Bold Move or Subdivision to Yes We Can?" I would need to know your interpretation of those songs and their differences to even understand what you're trying to infer.
regardless of politics: "youve got the hard cough of a chainsmoker, and youre at the arctic circle.. playing strip poker. and its getting colder and colder every time you lose." such a great image :)
Capitilism sucks? You're clueless. Just the fact that you're posting your idiotic messages on YouTube tells me capitalism has a greater impact on your life than you are aware. And no kidding capitalism doesn't exist in a socilaist state, did you figure that out by yourself. If you would ever be honest with yourself you'll realize you suck on the capitalist teat more than you think. Ani DiFranco doesn't give her CD's or concerts away. Does she suck for being a capitalist?
Denmark's a fine country. It has about 6 million people and is roughly 17,000 square miles. New York City alone has over 8 million people and is only 470 square miles. Do you honestly think a comparison can be drawn between the US and Denmark? In a country that has cities larger than your entire country, we're bound to have our problems. But I feel we have benefits that far outweigh anything socialism can offer. I'll take the bad with the good because the good is that good.
First off, I never called you an idiot. I said you posted an idiotic message. You stated the "capitalisim sucks". Ani DiFranco is a capitalist. Righteous Babe wants all of the labels artist to sell as many CD's and concert tickets as possible, i.e. to make as much money as possible. It's what they do with the profits that makes the difference. She's not a sellout and has remained true to her art by being an independant capitalist. So while you're enjoying her music, thank capitalism for it.
I really dont care if shes a capitalist or not. If i was in her place i would do things excatly as she does, but that doesnt mean that im a capitalist?
yes i would earn money on other people bla bla.
But still my country is socialistic with capitalistic ELEMENTS ofcourse.
like yours is capitalistic... with some socialistic elements... somewhere.
I am satisfied with paying 49% of my payment so everyone in Denmark can have a decent life \m/
So you wouldn't think capitalism sucks if you were Ani DiFranco and you're fine with her being a capitalist. Her capitalism doesn't suck is what you're saying, right? The point I'm trying to make is that you would have never heard a single note of her music if it were not for capitalism. That's the bottom line right there. So capitialism really does not suck at all. You do benefit from it if for no other reason than listening to Ani DiFranco. Capitalism brought her music to you.
Don't play the poor persecuted ok? You made a statement that capitalism sucks and I tried to show you that you enjoy it a lot more than you think. Yes, I vote. In the US you can vote if you're over 18 and are not a convicted felon. But besides those two things, everybody can vote if your a citizen.
if you want to answer me, will you please send me a mail on my youtube acount instead, I have had a rough day and i would rather listen to some music than discussing politics so late in the evening.
the $12 trillion to bail out the financial institutions. they'll never collect the money.
Capitalism is a belief system that the money you are trading in,is worth something; now the curtain is pulled back & it's just a scheme of the wealthy to suck the life blood (money) out of the system for themselves; till the system collapses & the money is worth nothing. Watch capitalism crumble. It's in it's last days.
You got to see this video because of capitalism. You even got to post your opinon to my post thanks to capitalism. If YouTube was not making money for someone, somewhere, it would cease to be. You paying your internet access fees show you support captalism. You're the type who buys chicken or steak at the grocery and denies you had a hand in the animals death. Capitalism will never stop so long as people can't or won't do everything for themselves. Go slaughter a pig or write your own music.
$46K means 46 thousand so I don't know how much you really get. And you being a vegetarian has nothing to do with the modern day slavery of migrant farm workers and the border issues of those people coming to pick your salad greens. Unless of course you grow you own food. People we all have blood on our hands. I "get it" enough and am honest enough to admit it. And you're music is not free. You just saw Ani on youtube. Again, you're giving in to capitalism. I think you're misinformed.
you call it capitalism but it's just industrialization
It's not real capitalism. the gov could not print more fake money (no real backing in gold/silver) or take your money away from you and send it to Wall Street; while they steal auto worker pensions & health benefits (under legal contracts). It's a rigged gov game not capitalism.
I have read Marx. Smart guy. Good ideas. Not very practical considering human nature. And you're right, this is not a good podium considering the 500 word limit. But the point I want to make is that you denouncing captialism on the internet is like denouncing loud speakers and using a loud speaker to do it with. You're paying someone to be on the internet or someone is paying them. Bottom line, someone is making money from you being on the internet. Capitalism, as we practice it, isn't so bad.
well you kind of did with your "enjoy you capitalism" remark and then followed that by the price tag that you listed the govt is dropping to bail out the banks.I'm curous, what would be you idea of what would happen if these banks were allowed to fail? You seem to bitch loud enough about it so I'm guessing you against the buy out. What's your solution?
Still not even a suggestion to a solution, just more bitching about it. I agree that those who blew this deal should be left for dead of more so, tried as criminals. This song is the rejection of the zero sum, male-dictated political-econ system. In academic circles, this is called "radical feminism," meaning we don't want 'equality' in the male system b/c that economic system is anti-competitive(rigged) and fundamentally unfair. This song says it's to the extent that we have no other choice, eg buying disposal clothes, toys, [aka everything we need on a daily basis]from poor countries where people toil for 14 hrs/day to make.
Think of it like reporters who write about the same topic...if you want to hear different music, use your strengths in your community to right a wrong.
She's so beautiful! She's so cool n' real~ I grew up on her songs. xD She's awesomely vibrant and I dunno how to explain it she's tiny but she's like a BIG person at the same time. I've always wanted to be like her. x3 Yush! I love this song. ^^
