I love using mullet for shark bait, Scale the fish before you prepare it how ever cause mullet are very oily fish and if you scale it it will release A LOT of extra scent.
If your still stationed on nas pcola send me a message if you want to meet up and try and land some big sharks my middle bro will be in the 8th of this month so i can get on base with him he looking to go shark fishing . Always looking to meet new friends that are into shark fishing . You can also look at pcolafishing forums there a lot of shark fisherman on there .
step up your leader material you can pick up 300 lb leader material at tight line bait and tackle over off E Cervantes street for about $4. 50 for 42 ft . I have hooked up with a big tiger about 65 yrds from were ya"ll are right there . Last summer i hooked into a shark with my 9/0 penn with 150 lb power pro braid and could not turn it in the same area pulled my boat all the way to the pass and out of the pass b4 he broke me off .
its the bat alert, u turn it on when the bail on the reel is open and it will let out line and click to let u know something is biting with out actually engaging the drag so you can let the fish take the bait and then pick up the rod and close the bail to set the hook when neccesary
what weight test line do i need ? what kind of hook and size of hook would i need for this monster to take him down? ive got a penn 209 and 309 do you think that i could handle a shark with either of my reels?. i live in houston texas but there is sharks but i gotta go to lousiana its about 3 hrs from but well worth i enjoy fishing. please get back to me .
@johnrmistrot yeah, beach access number 3 on johnsons beach is usually very productive for me as well, the beach at fort pickens is also very productive most of the time
i hace a penn fierce 5000. can that handle up to 30-50 lb shark

@southernboy11223. yep, i've seen bigger fish caught with spinnig reels, i think it would be more fun too, and cheaper than the penn senator.

How much do good cast nets cost?
MrBlimpology 1 year ago
That is true, a ladyfish would be even better but there are so many sharks at port ops that a chunk of mullet suffices nicely
