  • I thought it was a warning about staying away from his ex-girlfriend Cathy Evelyn Smith. The same Cathy Smith that confessed to injecting John Belushi with the a fatal speedball.

  • One of the greatest songs ever written about being trapped in the grips of depression.

  • Irish/Jewish is Lightfoot !

  • hey Americans love this band too (me) Ty so much for uploading

  • I'll just dedicate this song to all true canadians. That includes me. Who cares what other people say. Just enjoy life with great music...

  • Stand proud Canada. You have Gordon Lightfoot, and for that, the USA will eternally be both jealous and grateful.

  • Canada has given us so many great musicians and actors. But, if you bastards don't take Justin Bieber back we might have to invade. We don't care what you do with him, just get him out of here.

  • @trwhite1266 You invaded in 1812 and got your fat asses handed to you in plastic bags

  • @juzu4me And you think plastic had been invented by 1812...

  • @trwhite1266 That's what you get for giving Myley Cyrus fame, bwahahahaha and we don't want the little prick back you guys made him famous you can keep him hahaha!!! ;)

  • In need of voters support President Obama sent U.S. Navy and Marine forces to invade Canada this evening. Film at 11.

  • good chills everytime..

  • The greatest Canadian export.

  • is that the guy from caddyshack!

  • His album DonQuiote was a masterpiece and he's a genius.

  • Andy from Parks and Recreation if he was born 20 years earlier

  • Lightfoot rules, Dion and Adams drool and Bieber as a blight on the face of the universe. I actually like some of Nickelback's stuff but only to the point of being lukewarm on them.

  • used to dance to this song when I was baby in my diaper and still love it 37 yrs later

  • Great song by one of the greatest songwriters ever. Even Bob Dylan rates Lightfoot as a genius!

  • Gordon Lightfoot means Chuck Norris in American English

  • a kilometer is a lightfoot eh?!!!

  • Gordon Lightfoot has a set of vocal cords that are as unique as it gets, his great voice is so easy to listen to and sing along!

  • I used to play this for my daughters when they were babies and fussy. My husband didn't have much of a way of relaxing them as babies, and one day, he stood my oldest daughter on his lap and hummed Sundown. She started laughing. Her first laughs. A startling kind of laugh because her vocal chords weren't formed. Long "heehhh" sounds. She was three to five months old.

  • Great song, my fav by him. but it's obvious he is in front of a canadian audience. Freakin frogs sittin on there hands untill the last min of the song.

  • this video is soooooooo old.

    ewwwww

  • even crossed over to the 'country' market.

  • @1skullduggery You get twice the Sundown, no matter which genre you're listening to on the radio, they play it :)

  • 50 people already let the SUNDOWN. Stay in the dark where you belong. This is a great song. Go back to your Justin Beiber.

  • this is my cousin... hes a asshole.

  • hi

  • bet ole Gordy might wince when he looks back on this one with the white shoes on. ^..^

  • hehe I do everything for your satisfaction

  • uber golden-sun-child ja?

  • Canadian folk genius. we all have our demons, gordon notwithstanding.

    Sometimes I think it’s a shame

When I get feelin’ better when I’m feelin’ no pain

  • I can see her lookin fast in her faded jeans. She's a hard lovin woman. Got me feelin mean...perhaps the best lyric ever written!

  • Neil Young Bob Dylan and Gordon Lightfoot. Collect all three today, before it's to late.

  • This song is really deep for sounding so simple. There's a little bit of cajun in it. Falling in love with an emerald-eyed creole girl from the Louisiana swamps would be my downfall. Oh, how I love to eat the crawfish - those tails be so spicy.

  • He looks like Mr. Bo Jangles.

  • This is the first song that I remember hearing when I was a little girl. I feel like I am back home, playing with toys and hearing it on my moms old radio. Love how songs can bring back memories and feelings like that.

  • The audience is clapping on the back beat. What are the odds of that?

  • My Daddy bumped into her in the Yale Hotel in Vancouver back in the early 80's or late 70's before she was on trial for Belushi's death. Not a nice lady, so I've heard.

  • ...didnt he drift off into porn in the 80s ??

  • Great song!

  • I see where he is coming to play in Santa Barbara. Welcome Gordon...

  • Charlie Sheen feels like he's winnin' when he's losin' again.

  • @MillionthUsername i thought the same thing lol

  • have always loved this song!

  • Can we just change the name of this song to "Gash in a Sundress?"

  • YES I THINK THE SAME , IS THE BEST BEST MUSIC OF THE CENTURY XX

  • hrm I am here to have fun

  • During my wonder years!

  • God bless Gordie... Saw the man in Omaha last year... Timeless.

  • Never get tired of watching this, amazing artist and song!

  • This Rascal was awesome.

  • Does singing/song writing get any better?

  • I was 3 when this song came out. Remember hearing it on the radio. To this very day, it reminds me of being a 3 year old. Terrific song!

  • cool I am a sesy latin girl who loves to have fun everywhere

  • I was born in 74 and this is one of my favorite songs. This and Steve Miller traxs. Great era for music for sure.

  • Since Canada gave us Gordon Lightfoot, I can forgive them for also giving us Bryan Adams, Celine Dion, and Nickelback.

    But just barely.

  • @andxx0r What ,are we still in shit for Paul " You're Havin My Baby " Anka and Justin Bieber lol

  • @andxx0r And we can foregive you for giving us Britany Spears, The Black Eyed Peas and all the Americas got Talent BS.......

  • @nightowl905 we only gave it to you because we didnt want that crap here, lol.

  • @andxx0r I like all those people you just mentioned! But you forgot about Justin Bieber! Alanis Morrisette, KD Lang, The Who, Rush, Micheal Buble, April Wine, Kim Mitchell....etc. etc... I COULD go on...ha ha!!!

  • @andxx0r hmmm. Adams Dion and Nickelback have sold 700 million albums more than you have. That makes you a big fucking loser. Have a merry Christmas!

  • @juzu4me They still suck.

  • @andxx0r Too funny. I am Canadian...and I hate Celine Dion and Nickleback. Bryan Adams I am kinda meh.

  • @andxx0r what about Justin Bieber...that's unforgivable!

  • @andxx0r `

your welcome! you may want to add Beeber to your undesireables list too!

  • @andxx0r If you care to take a look, I bet Canada provides the U.S. with 60% of it's entertainment. From music to movies and everything between, Canada is the most prolific entertainment capital of the world. The U.S. sucks in comparison.

  • @broncobra 90% of internet statistics are made up.

  • @sammarkie NO really??? OH NO

  • go suck your your ow dick, asshole!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @andxx0r Canada gave us Rush, Triumph, Anvil, The Guess Who, Neil young and Bob and Doug Mackenzie too. Then Again, Nickleback, April Wine and Crash Test Dummies do cancel out a few tho. Think its about even actually

  • @andxx0r

Hey, Bryan Adams was solid at the beginning. Celine and Nickleback are products of the industry, I'll give ya that. But we also gave ya Broken Social Scene, Arcade Fire, Guess Who, Loverboy, Gowan, Kirk the freaky evangelical Cameron and his puck slut sister Candice, poutine, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Ryan Gosling, Corey Haim, Colm Feore, the amazing film - CRAZY, Ryan Reynolds, Hydro Weed, hockey and mullets, Hayden, peace-keeping, Sarah Polley, John Candy, Dan Akroyd...

  • @falang78

...along with snowmobiles, self-righteous yet outwardly polite folk, aversion to religion and politics, Pamela Anderson, Jim Carrey, Mike Myers, snow, curling, beaver (pelts), fresh water, dirty oil sands, bashed in baby seal skulls -and advanced understanding of ecosystem and wildlife management, moose, pickerel, socially acceptable alcoholics, Paul Anka, Paul Schaffer, my grandpa Paul, a new variant of herpes, WW2 cannon fodder for the Allies (Diepe and Normandy), etc.

  • @andxx0r Also gave us the NHL so they're ahead.

  • One of the finest contributions to the world Canada ever gave. God bless Gordon Lightfoot!

  • I first heard this song in '74 when my Mom drove us to Universal studios on the car radio...The name Lightfoot sounded strange then.

  • He was a very handsome man!

  • 49 people better take care Gordon don't find 'em creepin' round his back stair.

  • @USAFBrat84 It's good to be an old soul in a young body!...lol...When I was in the car with my kids's, each song that came on I would ask them the name of the artist. 7 out of 10 times they answered correctly. They were born in the 90's, and have old soul's too...

  • like Waylon. his voice was an instrument.knocked us down a notch

  • majority of artist go on stage and don't sound great

Gordon goes on stage and sounds really good lol

  • @jamo387 - Did you read what I wrote? I've *tried* to apply for private individual coverage three times from three different insurers. The insurers rejected my application each time because of my preexisting condition. I can't pay for my own health care if insurers won't let me purchase coverage!

The Affordable Care Act finally lets people like me buy our own private insurance coverage with our own money.

  • Canadian Gold

  • In 1974 I was a Junior in High School. I don't want to go back to school, but I sure want to go back to where the music took me in those days.

  • The best version of this song that I found was on mp3ify.com and you can download the mp3 or import it into itunes.

  • One of the Great Country rock artist. Vote for Ron Paul the ONLY honest man in Politics-OR don't complain if you end up in a FEMA death camp cause you thought you had rights. Christians are under full assault from Islam and Obama.

  • @PrincessAlesahJuliet Lets make what happen you delusional moron..? In case you havent noticed the vast majority of Americans fucking hate you..the GOP Congress has a whopping 12% approval rate...There a reason for that....Were sick of people like you..You bitch about the deficit. yet the US has had a deficit it couldn't pay off since its inception.YOU LEFT THAT OUT..THEN harp and cry about it so the WHIOLE WORLD sees..And THEN have the nerve act supprised when our credit rating goes down.

  • @shellback1970 I think you mean the 12% approval is for both sides, not just the GOP. Remember the Dems had control of both Houses and the White House, how did that work out?

  • @TheJer1963 Yeah the whole GOP controlled house. the same house where the GOP controls the agenda...The Dems have no say in Bohner's bullshit agenda

  • @TheJer1963 It worked out beautifully. We got the stimulus bill, the repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell, and the Affordable Care Act.

The Affordable Care Act helps me a lot, because I cannot purchase private individual coverage on my own. I've been rejected three different times by three different insurers for a preexisting condition that I acquired as a kid. Thanks to the ACA, I have access to a stopgap program until 2014 and access to health insurance exchanges in 2014. Thanks, voters!!! :^D

  • @JenHachigian Why don't you lefty idiots pay for your own health care and keep your hands out of my damn pocket.

  • @exposetruthwolf Your ignorance is astounding. You need to immediately stop whatever drug you are abusing and get help.

  • Seems like the tempo is a bit fast. adrenaline.

  • @zyxquark You may want to listen to his later version like the 79 one in the suggestions list to the right. He slowed the Tempo down or he was slowed from getting older! ;-)

  • Jesus has returned. And he plays the 12-string.

  • Take that US. He a Canuck who rules folk music

  • Gordon Lightfoot is also Mr. CANADA. Good on ya!!!!

  • Sat around the campfire last night. Discussion was about who the greatest Canadian musician was. All boiled down to Neil Young and Gordon Lightfoot.

  • My last name is Lightfoot!

  • @TheJer1963 Thanks. I was born in 1967, and can remember my introduction to the classics from my uncle when he had to baby sit me. Those were the days. Oh, and pass on the disco as well.

  • LOVE the tone of Gordon's voice. So unique and individual.

  • gordon lightfoot is currently playing at a wedding across the street

  • Real Music

  • What a songwriter!

  • I was born is the 60's, but the 70's sights, sounds, smells, and "MUSIC" have left a profound foot print in my memory that will last till the end!....love, love, love this song/music......

  • @sanderracooper I agree 100%. Born in 1963 and grew up with some of the greatest music ever made. Pass over the Disco part though.

  • @sanderracooper I was born in 1984 and I so wish that I got to experience the music of the 70s first hand...instead I grew up with nothing but bubble gum pop. :( But thankfully my parents played alot of old stuff and I grew up enjoying every bit of it! I'm definitely an old soul in a young body lol

  • Satin

  • 46 people have never seen her lyin' back in a sprin dress.

  • ..he is the BEST !!! love this song !! my best friend use to sing this to me; he sang it so good... sad to say he is no longer around ;(((

  • @beatlesrock. It's about a man dealing w a bad relationship, infidelity, and alcohol abuse. The creeping round my back stairs refers to his woman going out partying and leaving him at home to drink himself silly (and write songs) he's saying "don't let me catch u trying to sneak in at 2am" etc...and the lines about get feelin better when he's feeling no pain is him thinking it's a shame he's drinking himself silly, and the sin of him feeling like he's winning (like wasted Charlie Sheen style)

  • @schizlor how sad

  • Great.

  • what is this song about ?

  • 46 people must've been creepin 'round his back stairs...

  • it the best song.

  • Great performance!

  • anomalousclouds, Man you said it, that's the way when all the tunes hit me, a few beers and a couple shots of Barcardi 151. Then I start thinking about the 70's and being a teenager growing up. Damn, I sure do miss it. But.... such is life. There's always the music. Take care, Man.

  • Reminds of being out in the middle of the Arizona desert when I was 10 at my Aunt dee dee's ranch....

  • Nice live version!

  • One of Canada's finest exports! Thank you Canada

  • My FAVORITE Lightfoot song -- so sensual. Did he write this about any particular woman??

  • @oldcodyjr According to the article about the song on Wikipedia, it was about his girlfriend at the time, Cathy Smith.

  • Great song. She's a hard lovin woman got me feelin mean.

  • Sundown - My favorite album !

  • 45 people have 0 taste for good music

  • this was my mom and stepfathers favorite

  • old school music...like when I was a kid with my folks head'n to the drive in to see a 70's car movie! awwweee yeah the good ole times :-)

  • the lyrics dont make sense but its so catchy nobody cares :D

  • @superswatkiller I think it's about lost love or something. I looked it up once.

  • @yesiamawizardjonny i suppose that would make sense

  • A guy from Owen Sound told me this was a song about his ex-girlfriend. She vowed to become more famous than he and was there when Belushi Overdosed. True story? Not sure but, it is a good one!

  • HE IS SO AWESOME... LOVE HIS SONGS, AND SINGING..

  • Always loved Gord, probably the only thing in my 7's teenager music collection I ageed on with my parents

  • Ah, the memories. Songs like this and performers like G.L. have stood the test of time and will continue to do so for all of time.

  • BAD ass

  • He looks a lil like John Holmes. 70's pimpin. Good song.

  • Not a huge country fan ,but this guy is awesome

  • 45 people are just inhuman!

  • This brings me back... I miss those days...

  • Epic song, timeless....that guitar is badass!

  • gaydon shitfoot dislikes this video O_o

  • fuck this fucking shit hoes

  • Why does it always come down to arguments about who is the best. We all just want to listen to Bob Dylan songs all day long? Just be thankful for them all. We don't get any like this at all anymore...

  • i like it!

  • Gordon is a fantastic song writer. So much talent.

  • This song reminds me of when my dad used to take us to Reno, Nevada. Perfect traveling music.

  • Gordon's other signature song! Thanks for posting this.

  • I was just listening to some new song randomly that was okay, but then I heard a melody that reminded me of this song, and I thought to myself. "Fuck it, let's hear it." Excuse my language, but I'm a few beers and sips of whiskey deep and that's when this song really gets to me in the best way possible.

  • @anomalousclouds IF YOU NEED TO BE WASTED DRUNK TO APPRECIATE GOOD MUSIC YOU NEED TO LISTEN TO IT WHEN YOUR NOT DRUNK, AND THEN IT WILL REAALY GET TO YOU! IT'S TIMELESS.

  • @Missy1017315 Wow, those power caps make you seem 'reaaly wasted drunk,' my friend. Also, the content of your comment sucks. Are you that dense that you assume I have to be "wasted drunk" to appreciate good music? Assumption is the mother of all fuckups, and you just dun another one, Missy. (pun intended)

  • @anomalousclouds

    Sometimes I think it’s a shame

When I get feelin’ better when I’m feelin’ no pain

    Sometimes I think it’s a sin

When I feel like I’m winnin’ when I’m losin’ again.

    Gordon gets it.

  • @anomalousclouds I know what ya mean but I have replaced my drinking with not but becoming a chrisitian and the music still has the same effect as before great music is great music

  • @anomalousclouds I've left off drinking, but when I did drink, I'd often play a song that would express, in better words than I could come up with, the "craziness" for lack of a better term that I was feeling; this was one of them. Just watch yourself, is all I ask.

  • @anomalousclouds with ya all the way bro!

  • @anomalousclouds Yes Sir You are Correct.

  • Brad Colbert at the ambush in Muwaffiqiyah. God, what a fucking expert Sgt. Colbert was!

He sang this song while killing Syrian Jihadists in Central Iraq through night vision...

  • wish he was still with us

  • @buzzbox2nd He is still with us.... he's not dead, I just saw him in concert.

  • @pcsassy03 thank goodness for that , actualy i just found out hes still here thank god for that :))
