  • ¿Hay algo que la Sra. Agerich no toque....bien?

    Tiene duende...

  • ...recorded in 1982! CD is available but no DVD...

  • the hardest piece of piano concerto ever.

  • Slow down you crazy woman!!!!! Take more time to enjoy the sublime music.

  • @MrWSherwood but its the same tempo of rachmaninoff himself!

  • teh best !

  • Unbelievable.

  • Unlike some other performances of this Concerto, Martha plays it in the same tempo as Rachmaninoff's original recordings and the result is a magnificent performance which captures the fire and passion of Rachmaninoff's spirit. He would smile to hear it. Brava, Martha. Bravo, Maestro Chailly, as well, for knowing instinctively how Rachmaninoff wanted this Concerto to play out. Perfect sympatico between Martha and Chailly. Thank you for sharing.

  • @paderuski1 I'd agree but I'd also point out that she plays it with much more pathos and involvement than Rachmaninov's interpretation. Personally I don't much care for his own recording, but this one is brilliant.

  • @malikrox Perhaps if we could WATCH Rachmaninoff play this Concerto like we can watch Martha, we would get all the pathos and involvement we could ask for. Rach, himself, agreed with an interviewer that his striking presence on stage was a factor in the reception of the audience to his music. What a loss for us that he never visually recorded his performances. I still favour his interpretation but, certainly, each to his own.

  • Gr8 courage from Maestro Argerich to have chosen such a tempo!

  • A tone that only a master could make!

  • If cheese tasted like this it would be the best cheese. For sure.

  • Whos the conductor?

  • @llspritz Riccardo Chailly

  • @ 32.22

  • When her "Superman" curl becomes part of the show, you know Superwoman is performing. Thank you for the upload. Sitting listening to this is what my Music Appreciation was talking about many years ago. Brilliant, just brilliant. Bravo Martha.

  • OMFG!!!! Can't believe I found this. Thank you!!!!

  • The slow theme of the 3rd movement is the most beautiful and intimate I've heard.

  • she is definitely the most amazing woman in the world

  • it is real passion!

  • @unathalie I agree

  • Stunning, heart warming and heart wrenching, she plays the music as it was intended

  • for women is it good performance!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i do not understand WHY THERE WAS NO STANDING OVATION.

  • 00:29

  • Damn, how this woman can play! Not only that, she simply dominates the stage by the sheer force of her personality. She just seats herself, very lady-like, at the piano, then proceeds to kick everybody's ass!

  • I must have accounted for at least a thousand of these plays.

  • 3 people who don't know their left from their right?

I wish they would let us know WHY they dislike this exceptional performance, or at least apologise for not knowing what the "thumbs-up" sign means!

  • ...And the encore was gaspard de la nuit no doubt. Go Martha go!

  • I love the conductor's expressions.

  • Martha, would you consider... marrying me?

  • My favourite performance in recorded history...just gets me every time...I couldn't admire someone more...and I think Chailly is so cheesy and into it because he realizes he is part of a 'history in the making' performance.

  • I want to see her hands! Not the conductor picking his nose.

  • LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT. raping that replay button!

  • Merci pour ce beau concert ♥

  • @Elfaih Je vous en prie! :)

  • Absolutely fantastic. What an upload.!!** Thanks so much. Lol Daphne

  • gorgeous flooding passion... gorgeous woman, too

  • My God!!! Amazing. I wish the camera never left her.

  • go fuck you all... i had a motherfucking orgasm listening to this!!!!!

  • The mount Everest of the Piano Concerto

  • @Valk72 Really? The first movement of Alkan's piano concerto for solo piano is almost as long as the entire 3 movements of the Rachmaninoff!

  • @thegreatapologist

That's not the duration that make this concerto so difficult for the pianinist but the technical skill it demands.

  • @Valk72 Have you heard Alkan's concerto for solo piano?

  • @thegreatapologist

No... but you're actually making me curious enough to go listen to it XD

  • @Valk72 It's around an hour long, but the first time I heard it, I was mesmerized. It's really worth a listen.

  • Is this performance available on DVD?

  • @SimeyTC83 To the best of my knowledge, no. :\ If anyone knows otherwise, though, that'd be awesome; I'd love to buy the full disc.

  • @SimeyTC83 It is: Philips digital classics 289 464 732-2

  • @mmoynan Thank you, simply thank you. This made me cry, Rachmaninoff third in one piece. Thank you

  • there had to be one dislike smh

  • NO OTHER WOMAN CAN PLAY 3rd RACHMANINOFF'S CONCERTO COMPARABLE TO MARTHA; AND ALSO NO MAN PLAYED COMPARABLE TO RACHMANINOFF AND HOROWITZ

  • The undisputed Queen of percussive musical talent and expression in our lifetime.

  • Martha! Marry me! Even when you're 80, I will marry you!

  • @MrMikadelic MARTHA ARGERICH NACIÓ EN ARGENTINA EN JUNIO DE 1941. SE CASÓ TRES VECES, DE CADA MATRIMONIO TUVO UNA HIJA. MR. MIKADELIC: PUEDES PROPONERLE UNA CUARTA BODA

  • i love her look at 41:01

  • to be able to memorize this masterpiece on the piano and not have a music sheet in front of you to read just boggles my mind. i just attended a concert to see the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra and a man named Jon Kimura Parker played the whole piece by memory. Simply AMAZING performance by him and Martha!

  • I seriously want to smack the camera man. He doesn't show her hands during most the amazing parts of this concerto. At 10:40 he should be shooting her hands and nothing else! Why is he getting shots of the conductor and her face. I want to see her amazing hands! lol

  • Come on!!!! ONLY 8151 views???? I mean, Argerich + Rach 3!

  • Thanks mmoynan, you have performed a very valuable public service with this upload

  • Does anyone else just love that casual hair toss at 23:05?

  • @mmoynan hi! yeah, I do also love that and I especially noticed it the first time I watched this video. Its really just in time for the upcoming context in the piece. What I love about Argerich is that her playing as well as her bodily gestures are just so natural at the piano - unlike others' which seem to be just so deliberate, unnecessary and out of context.

  • @mmoynan yeah, so nice!

  • @mmoynan yeah, it just happens to be at the most beautiful part of the entire concerto inho...

  • Arguably (but not for me because I am convinced) the finest Rach 3rd you will find. Horowitz? Rachmaninoff himself? Gieseking? Who they? Seriously, I like them all in this piece but they are a shadow next to Argerich here.

  • God, that eighth minute is incredible! It typifies everything that makes Argerich the greatest pianist of her generation. She starts with that passionate and luscious legato and builds and builds into an incredible torrent. Just when you think she can't build it any higher, she somehow manages to squeeze even more out of the music. The whole orchestra just feeds off her passion and energy. Incredible!

  • This was recorded in December 1982. with the Radio Symphonie-Orchester Berlin under direction of Riccardo Chailly.

  • Thanks for sharing this marvelous piece of music.

  • BRAVO BRAVO MARTHA!!!!... ... ESPERO ALGÚN DÍA TUS COMPATRIOTAS DEJEN DE HIPNOTIZARSE CON CHARLY GARCÍA Y TODA SU CORRIENTE.. ...

  • Rach 3 in it's definite shape by Martha Argerich.

  • The best recording ever of rahs third

  • Oh wow!

  • real music for the soul.More than ever, now!

  • Thank you Martha. You are inspirational to us mortals.

  • Very Goooooooood ~

  • Thank you for this...

  • @mmoynan i was sure that in the old videos where they were split up the sync was off badly, i think anyway

  • Hooray for fixed sync

  • Wonderful to be able to watch the complete concert all in one shot. Thanks!
