  • A piece of genius - a brilliant take on yet another moribund chanson

  • Oh lord, the original is so much better : Au suivant by Jacques Brel.

  • Just fucking wonderful. Sadly I only discovered SAHB after he died (even though I'm old enough to know better!) but if there's ever been a better lyricist & performer than Alex then I've yet to encounter them.

  • I can see why the other take made it to the show. Still great though.

  • @departments2006 I'm pretty sure this is the take that was aired originally tbh

  • sensational indeed.

  • What wonderful Scottish cabaret noir this is.... we will always love you Alex...

  • Thanks for posting. How sensational was SAHB. Theatrical Scottish brilliance at its best. How much they are missed. Great band. And who could ever forget Zal Cleminson's make-up. Underrated guitarist.

  • Thanks for uploading. The SAHB were the first band I ever saw and this has brought back fond memories.

  • very nice! NEEEXXXT!!!

  • i like this version better than the studio one

  • I'm from the USA. Check out the band from the midwest

called VAMBO MARBLE EYE. They broke up a while ago, but you can find stuff from them. They cover "Next"

as a faster and bizarre version. They were highly influenced by SAHB.

  • i think this is the better of the two takes. i'm surprised at how consistent are the off-key out-of-time nuances. you'd think he was winging it... obviously not.

  • knowing the stuffy BBC, it was probably the guitar humping which acted as the catalyst for the second take.

  • Mortal comment about right now.

  • Alex Harvey's band used to be called "Tear Gas" - they used to do the local circuit in Scotland in the early 70s. Saw them several tmes before Alex hired them. Oh what memories! Och aye the noo!

  • They're two separate takes of the same session

  • SENSATIONAL!

Should be required viewing for all aspiring actors and rock frontmen.

  • This version is another take from OGWT sessions that used by RAI at least (TV Italian I guess). Yes - Live On The Test (BBC CD contains an original audio track from OGWT), highly recommended to all SAHB Fans.

  • Wonderful stuff! I recommend the recent Live at the BBC cd set; some electrifying performances.

  • A brilliant Jacques Brel interpretation.
