  • no, back then they were an empire so it was called The Empirial Army of Japan

  • Oh, so that's why when they commit suicide in the movies they will always say "for the sake of the emperor"... But why do they have to kill themselves when they are defeated, but they have the motto "Never say die", which is so stupid (no offense for them)?

  • defeat means shame, and surrendering meant the ultimate shame to them so instead of surrendering, dying was more honorable....this was pretty much the way of the so called ``Bushido``which was the way of the samurai WHICH WAS REALLY OLD!! but hey, history is history:)
