Damn shame what happened. It's just like all the BS the Blue's got at SF Fleetweek for flying under the Golden Gate/Bay Bridges. Really? They can fly inches off each others wing but some politician thinks they can't manage flying under the hundred something foot gap between the water and the bridge? At what point did we become a nation of irrational pussy's again?
suspend them both for 8 hours... they can go and look at bin laden's face when they drop one on him... best fly by i've ever seen... have to know what your doing in order do it with sucess...
You know it's "a lot," right? Seeing this "alot" and "allot" thing all over the place . . .
however, I agree that the punishment is surprisingly harsh. I haven't seen anything about whether it was deliberate or just a misunderstanding about 1,000 ft above the stadium vs. 1,000 ft above sea level.
It's a chickenshit Navy that busts two F-18 jocks out of aviation for a successful low pass. A "dirty" flyby is not at all the unstable situation bosnmate820 would imply, yet they're being whacked as though something did go wrong. Should have been a slap on the wrist, 30 days without flight pay and a case of beer for a good job of it. Symptomatic of the new military officer corps at large -- CYA managers and execs have replaced the fully spined Leaders. This bust was pure chickenshit.
They violated Navy regs and risked the lives of everyone in the stadium and in every building they flew over. One slight mistake and they would have been a ball of fire. The Gear Down, Flaps Down maneuver known as a "Dirty Flyby" upsets the capability of the planes to respond to the controls. It is commonly done at airshows but only over the runways. Any one of the structures on the ground could have caused an air pocket and sent the plane, or both planes, into the ground
A dirty flyby doesn't upset the capability of the plane and air pockets from structures wouldn't cause the planes to crash even in that configuration. I can say that with a certain degree of confidence as an instructor pilot with a few thousand hours teaching Air Force and Navy students. We'd all be at risk every time we flew if what you were saying was true. Thousands of planes land every day with low final approaches (dirty) over built up areas. They'd be crashing all the time.
The flyover from Ohio State vs. Iowa this year was lower!!!

These pilots were actually flying too low. They were relieved and grounded
permanently. They will never fly again. Too harsh if you ask me. These
were good pilots allot of training money down the drain

Everyone in that crowd that was so scared that they were cheering and clapping should write Secnav and make a stink.
It was their tax dollars that were used. There are military fly overs all the time. THIS ONE KICKED ________!

These two pilots lost their wings because of how low they were...

if thats true, then thats a major load of bullshit. at the most, they should have been suspended for awhile rather then not let them fly again
