Do I need a business background to get into Wharton?

Without having any business experience, don't you think it is extremely difficult for someone to answer the question"why an MBA"?.Imagine a biology student wanting to pursue mechanical engineering.Why would anyone want to admit him/her without any background? My point is we must have a relevant background else we do not know what we are doing(If we knew, we would have acquired the background someway or the other already,get it?)
