One of the greatest composers ever, up there with Hans Zimmer and John Williams. The Village should have won its Academy Award, The Last Airbender should have also won an Academy Award and the Lady in the Water should have been nominated. The movies he scores may be bad but the music is superb.
1. The Village (By far one of the best soundtracks ever)
@emstrad79 John Williams will take it this year that's for sure. If Newton wants to win an Oscar he should quit working with Shyamalan cause the academy hates his movies or Shyamalan should do some boring drama. The academy loves dramas. Then he might win one.
@emstrad79 He should have won in 2004 for "The Village", in 2008 for "Defiance" and in 2010 for "The Last Airbender". In my opinion he has been robbed multiple times. He should have been nominated aswell for "The Lady in the Water" in 2006. Brilliant composer.
JNH is the man. Hes compositions touches the inner soul.. My favorites are many, but Lady in the water suite is outstanding. Who cares about the movie when the soundtrack is beyond amazing. Deep, haunting and epic.. what more can one ask for? Long live JNH
"The Hand of Fate (Part II)" is one of James Newton Howard's best pieces ever. There is something so "spine-tinglingly" beautiful about the whole thing. A close second would have to be some of the music from "Lady in the Water" and "King Kong".
That said, his score for The Village was his best work as far as complete scores go.
Would have chosen "Charades" or "The Great Eatlon" from Lady in the Water myself (though "Healing" comes third after those two). Otherwise, good job on identifying the highlights of the respective albums!
@JoeSnyderwalk "Cereal Boxes" is pretty amazing, too. The biggest problem with that soundtrack is really that there are just -too many- extremely amazing songs.
The music from The Village and lady in the water getting me relaxed so much... i totally love it <3
Thanks James Newton Howard (:

10:15 might just be the most EPIC moment in the entire JNH/Shyamalan collaboration.
