I do not understand how being against the Iraq war has anything to do with supporting actions against Al Qaeda. When we thought Osama was in Afganistan we were told that we had to stop Husein because he could have nuclear weapons which turned out our intelligence was incorrect. It was obviously a very confusing time and many people like myself didn't support invading Iraq because it seemed we were deflecting from our main goal which was to undermine those who already attacked us.

So the Navy Seals got authorization from the president and CIA to kill Bin Laden. @Hiraghm - The billions you speak of are all estimates at best. Regardless of the estimated supply of oil and natural gas, they are not renewable energy sources and thus have a finite end. The key to energy independence is finding renewable energy sources that can sustain well past 100 years. Not to mention the innate damage oil and natural gas retrieval cause. Gas prices in the US are shielded by subsidies and not actual supply anyway.

I do not understand how being against the Iraq war has anything to do with supporting actions against Al Qaeda. When we thought Osama was in Afganistan we were told that we had to stop Husein because he could have nuclear weapons which turned out our intelligence was incorrect. Dick Chaney had secret assassins that went around killing people, reporting only to him and not even conferring with the CIA or the president. Oh yea there the same thing. The Navy Seals weren't even out necessarily to assassinate Bin Laden, but to capture him if possible.

While he used a small strike force against Osama and I will give you that point I disagree on the gitmo interrogation point. The navy SEALs sneaking into Pakistan are confirmed by all sources but the enhanced interrogation methods point is disputed from what i've read. We won't know, i think, until at least a month from now.

I'm not the least bit surprised he would have opposed something like this.
Part of me wonders if I'm glad he didn't win. Then we would have had 2 simultaneous Pres's who "said" they were republican but both broke pretty far from the legitimate party foundations.
And McCain would have been worse than Bush.
Now, people are more likely to want a 'real' republican like Huckabee

@Hiraghm - The billions you speak of are all estimates at best. Regardless of the estimated supply of oil and natural gas, they are not renewable energy sources and thus have a finite end. The key to energy independence is finding renewable energy sources that can sustain well past 100 years. Not to mention the innate damage oil and natural gas retrieval cause. Gas prices in the US are shielded by subsidies and not actual supply anyway.

And "fossil" fuels are very much a renewable resource. Every hear a cow fart? Coal is renewable, plant matter decays all the time. If oil is made from the decay of bodies, it's renewable. It may take millions of years, but that doesn't mean it's not renewable.
News Flash; solar energy is *not* renewable. Once the sun goes out, that's all she wrote.

@hellsyea22 - not a lot, because even the space shuttle and saturn V didn't burn oil. And, from what I've read, it's raining petrochemicals on Titan. Just put out a bucket.
It takes no more energy to get to Jupiter from geosync orbit than it takes to get from the ground to geosync.
And the propulsion can be laser powered solar sails, powered from mirrors in orbit or on the moon, if nothing else. We could have done it 30 years ago.
The hard part is the willingness.

here was my problem with this whole thing. during the presidential address obama said something to the effect of osama was not a muslim but then we buried him in muslim tradition... the 9/11 victims didn't get proper burials, at least many of them. I think we should have put his body in a building and flew a plane into it... joking of course but you get the point. not to mention if you are a peaceful muslim, wouldn't be an insult to have him treated with the same respect as you? think about it.
