hey dude what specifications do you have your kicks set too? Ive had mine for about a year and a half and ive decided to totally go full circle on how they were previously to see if it improves my playing, but im not exactly sure what a good set up would be?
i decided to go back to playing Axis pedal since they changed to 21 degree angles and key bolts for better adjustments. i now have two Axis A21 Laser pedals.
I find it hard to believe that these could be worth over $850, and that's on musiciansfriend. Why not just get the Iron Cobra which is top of the line? You can buy a whole kit for how much hat pedal is worth.
@5starburrito Yeah man, I haven't been playing much at all lately, and when I do play I just see myself having just a regular double pedal like like Iron cobra or Eliminators. I actually sold those to get these...and I do regret it in a way. These are really durable, but so are any other decent pedals. I am really disliking the foot boards right now, I don't know, they really aren't worth that much lol.
@5starburrito iron cobra? over these? no. theyre completely different pedals. these are direct drives. thats why theyre so expensive. theres plenty out there better than iron cobras
Hey dude I just got these pedals, and they feel great just one thing, The clamp on these pedals doesn't seem to work very well.
The clamp latches hard, but since it's pretty narrow, the pedal doesn't seem to stay on the spot that I latch it on to on the bass drum, and it keeps moving, have you had this problem?
@MetalOperations Yeah it's not the greatest clamp, but I haven't had issues with it really. I thought that I would, but not really. It stays put for me, I think my kick drum legs hold it in place well. Maybe get the spikes coming through the legs so it stays in place better? Idk man.
@MetalOperations I recently picked up the Pro V-1 Bigfoot and had the same problem of the pedal sliding from the clamp. The pedal came with some velcro pieces. I attached one just under the heel part of the pedal and haven't had a problem since.. hope this helps.
so i just got some pro 1-v bigfoots the other day and the velcro holds to the carpet great but wont stick the pedal for nothing. did you have this problem? figured some type of glue would work or just go buy some new velcro and hope it holds
i am so unsure of what to do, i played my axis for cpl of years and then they broke, so i went to buy some more gig friendly pedals, which ended me up with the demon drives, am satisfied with the ease of adjustment and gig friendliness, but i can't get no where near the feel and the speed of the axis, can't decide wether to keep trying or just sell them and buy the trick og the Czarcie Kopyto. or the derek roddy version axis....:P though beeing a drummer...
@nonhasthisusername Dude I loved my axis too and these just don't feel the same, my axis broke several times and I was just fed up. I got these and I like them a lot but I do miss my axis..These are great pedals though just not the same feel.
@ricohorton actually lol I am using them right now again. I kind of like them now. I prefer heavier beaters but you can adjust it to make them feel heavier.
@Tardsnake plus if you want a heavier TRICK beater, get the aluminum sleeves that slide on the beater shaft...definitely the way to get a heavier beater...then you have the advantage of the beater that was designed for the pedal...
can you adjust these pedals so that the slave and main pedal beaters hit the head in the center? like so the slave beater is not hitting to the left of center of the head, creating a different sound
@stover81291 Unfortunately I don't think you can. I was pretty disappointed about that too. I wish the beater position was like eliminators where they both sit at center. But it's just like axis pedals..
Its funny how some people prefer running shoes to play kick drum, or millitary jump boots, or even barefoot. I just can't get myself to take my shoes and socks off when i sit down before my set to play a show. Then, when we are done, putting the shoes and socks back on!
I have a set of these. i feel like the beaters being off from normal pedals(the slave is farther left, with the main dead center) it gives the slave hit a different sound a bit.
I've had these for around two weeks. Still getting used to them i suppose. I don't want to try and adjust them to feel like my 9000's though hah
dude you should make an update vid featuring your trick pedals with your new settings and playing style. im considering buying these pedals but i need some new info to make it official
im between these or axis al s and i dont know where to go. money is not an issue, but i also want to to get a pedal that looks good and is as good as it looks and that can take punishment. i heard the axis get meesed up when you start making adjustments.
Wow....I just checked these out coz tomas haake uses them. They are extraodinarily expensive! I thought Axis/Demon drive pedals were pricey. £769 at GAK. Don't think I'll be gettin any at that price, I'll stick with my Axis.
i'm not sure which pedal to get. i've played on 9000s and loved them, but these look really nice and i've heard good things but i'm skeptical about the direct drive. every direct drive pedal i've played, i don't feel like i have control over it because they are so light. do these feel super light like the axis and demon drives?
@holyhell937 you can make them feel like any pedal out there. you can make them heavy as hell, I would recommend heavier beaters though. I'm not a big fan of those light ones they come with.
@Tardsnake HOLY FUCK dude ur feet are good, or is it the pedals ??? anyways dude are they really so light and can u do triplets or quadraplets easily as chris adler
Well...we can always remove the shaft and use the system as two pedals. But I like the twin set up. I too want to buy one of these but I am wondering if anyone has had them Break ? I use the Yamaha Flying Dragons with the Trick Beaters. Love those beaters! I really am interested in the trick system but I want to know if anyone has had a break down or is there any regular flaws or weaknesses?
@AldridgeHalenFreak for as long as i've had them, there has been no problems at all. These things are built so well. If you treat them well on the road they should last forever.
is there a model where i can convert from longboard to short board because at the moment i play short boards and there right but long boards are ment to be faster and i still want to play jazz funk and stuff not just metal
hey is the fact that the right beater is dead center and the other isnt a problem while playing? like does it feel like bad or something? cuz i wanna buy this but im not sure because of that
@danieljordison0793 Well they do sound and feel different but I don't think it is a huge problem. Axis is the same way. I've thought about getting another bass drum, that would definately fix the problem. I don't think it hinders my playing though.
@DxMMalice that's a super kick 2, I think I had one pillow in there at the time and for reso I honestly don't remember, it is a remo black with a hole pre cut. Oh yeah it came with some some foam rings too.
you'd play a lot faster if you didnt have your coming back all the fucking way to practically behind your leg when you arent hitting the batter head...Lol. Just saying. Maybe it's just a pet peeve of mine, but it's also a fact.
@mintymohawk This wasn't intended for speed, just a demo that I made well over a year ago and I have completely changed my settings and technique. Why not have them come back that far? I'm not a wimp nigga. Look at george kollias' settings... not for the weak.
@Summoniac yeah dude it's the same with axis. The right beater is dead center and the left is pretty left. That's why I was hoping they made them like my old eliminators, where they are both centered really well.
Hey I wanna buy a direct drive and I think I'll go with axis, but I hear they break a lot (exactly how that looks, I'm not sure) so would you say it's worth going straight to these?
Also the Pearl Demon Drive looks cool, but also looks like it's the heaviest of the bunch which I'm afraid may make them slower than the others...
Axis do feel better to me, but mine broke in several places, and was time to get rid of them. I've played demons at guitar center, but the settings were so jacked off that i couldn't tell if they were any good.
I bought these without even trying them and I think they are awesome, takes time to find the right settings though.
@strappinggermanlad my buddy bought the demon drive. worst desicion of his life. they're VERY expensive and they're soooo light that it's not like anything is under your feet so you feel as though you have no gripping cuz there's no presser on your foot when you press down. just go with axis or trick
How do you have your pedals set up. I have one too, and I'm pretty fucking fast, but I wonder how yours is set up, maybe I can tweak mine and get faster....thanks man!
I'm workin on my aunts winery this summer to earn money to buy this pedal. It ain't cheap haha. Can you tell me what were the obvious differences this pedal possessed as opposed to say, an iron cobra? I have an iron cobra, and it's not bad but I've had it for 6 years and I'd like to get better equipment. Is it smoother? I noticed very fluid motion in your feet with those quick rolls. Obviously that takes practice but would you say that sorta thing is more difficult on another pedal?
I went through a phase where i just kept buying new pedals to try them out and just returned them if i didn't like them. I decided to keep these after having eliminators, cobras, and axis. The adjustment on these are infinite, you can make them feel almost like any pedal but takes patience to find the right feel. I sometimes feel like i should go back to axis because i felt more speed and a little more comfort with them, but the adjustments on axis were horseshit and I had parts break on me.
this sounds like a hell of a pedal. I noticed in the video that the boards went very low to the floor when the were using them. is that an adjustment? making the footboards go lower so you get more impact? I like how this pedal has a bar as opposed to a chain.
@Tardsnake yeah i have axis (just bought myself some pearl demon drives tho. Axis have a nice feel. but to make any alteration is a HUGE effort especially with the shitty allan keys!
@Tardsnake ahhh dude im in that phase but im buying these i had the dominators and them were the best pedal and i have demon drives now they suck but im excited
The first question you should ask yourself is direct, chain, or belt drive? I used to have a set of Axis Longboards but, I always felt they didn't have a bounce to them. Hard to explain but it's like the pedal plate always on your foot. It made things such as the swivel technique more difficult then it needed to be, so I sold them. I now use a Vex Pro Touring because I like the feel of chain driven pedals better. I'm just as fast with them & they have a better feel.
There's nothing wrong with the way he has his feet placed. I play flat foot with my toes pretty much at the very top of the footboard and can play very fast. Whatever works for you is what's best. Just because the majority of drummers play a certain way doesnt mean it's the only way.
And to the dude with the comment about triggered drums not sounding natural
Mics and triggers, and using the sample of your own bass drum you won't find a sweeter or more "natural" setup. I guarantee if I did a blind sound test with all you moron's you would all ay the triggered sounds way better. I've played many shows with this setup and every drummer there always comes up to me and asks me how I get that sound cuz it's the best sounding bass drum they've ever heard. Take that suckas!
hahaha, you didn't even half think trough that comment did you its basically "fuck you, i don't know shit about drumming, i never played a gig and swear a lot!" natural bassdrum sounds better. it does, thats why it exsists, if everyone thought triggered would be better, there wouldn't be real bassdrums now would there. stop lieing too.
take that "sucka" (sorry i only speak english. not moron slang)
I played these pedals for about a month and axis for 7 years. I have to say they are both the best pedals out there. I can heel-toe 305 bpm at 16ths with axis and 290 with trick. The bigfoot pedals do have more balls though. Also I wear size 14 and a 1/2 lol any one else out there with bigger feet plz say so haha
of course. but in that case i don't think the bass should be fast, because the bassdrum isn't usually the part of drums that gives the rythm. this usually is the hi-hat. (or ride or crash etc). though the double bass is tied to some sorts of music. and agreed: you gotta trigger that, but still, you gotta have your basics straight too. i think we are both sort of right here
I can't stand bass triggers... it makes it so you don't have to work hard at all to play upwards of 200bpm and get a decent sound...
In my band, the fastest I play is 16th notes at around 270, and I don't use triggers.
Sure it's not quite as loud as when I am playing slower, but it's loud enough to be heard with a full band. Lucky for me it's at the end of the song, because I need a good rest after something like that...
Oh yeah, well I got a bigger dick than all of yall. And just for the record you guys who are all bashing triggers on bass drums are all fucking retards, and you, B4ssB, are the biggest one of all. First off, to the dude with the ignorant ass comment about not having to work hard to play faster than 200 bpm thats only the case if your triggering a pad, and if that is the case than it really has nothing to do with the trigger anyways, does it?
sure, if you trigger its a whole different story, you can hit it with every piece of material you want. as long as the batter resonates. but pedals nowadays are state-of-the art balanced between the force you have to give and the force the beater will apply to the batter
if what you say is true there would be no reason to even make boards exept the bottom part. yes triggers is a whole different story, you need no force at all. but with miced/real life drumming force is a huge factor. i drum a show now and then, and i find its very inportant to balance out the force of the beater (i don't play triggered) and where/how you use your force on the pedal. tecnique is one of the biggest factors in drumming. it has to be optimal to play a long show.
If you play extreme metal and you do 32nd note doublebass live.... you need triggers. period. the bass drums will not be loud enough. Not even the loudest bass drums coupled with the hardest hits you can do above 200bpm will be enough to use mics alone.
If Derek fucking Roddy can't do it.... it cannot be done yet. We havent made a loud enough bass drum to make it possible. I dont care who argues what... people who have tried, know.
some people just don't like triggers. i for example prefer natural sound.
yeah if you want triggers i don't stop you. its just dissapointing to buy a 600 dollar pedal and a actual bassdrum if you could have aswell bought some pads. and 2 single pedals that are evenly fast.. saves you money too
Agreed. I dont really like double pedals... if you can facilitate em, two bass drums just feels so much better. Those pads man, actually... ALL electronic drum pads... they just dont feel right. Far too bouncy. Its like "lets have whatever sound we want AND an unnatural amount of rebound." Thats more like cheating if you ask me than just playing with triggers.
I like Roddy's approach... which is triggers & mics, but the sample sound he uses is a recording of his actual bass drum. Sounds great.
there are a lot of pads that are made to and succeed in that pretty well. and since you can't cheat in music, you could aswell bought some dualist pedals. you won't get much faster. though i don't care about fast play. i care about accurate and solid play with good technique
True, all good drummers are more focused on being concise than fast or showy... but some music simply calls for fast playing. If you and your guitarists are already playing fast and the part calls for 32nd notes.... you pretty much have to man up and go fast. Thats where speed and technique tie into each other.
Changing the sound of a drum, even if it's an electronic kit isn't cheating. That's like saying drummers can ONLY play on traditional drums and if they don't sound exactly like a regular drum kit, it's cheating. Grow a fukin brain son, ANYTHING you can pound on in a rhythmic pattern that makes a noise can be a drum. Only stupid dumbasses think accoustic kit drummers are the only drummers that don't cheat. Oh, and i like Roddy's approach too.
I was referring to the fact that SOME trigger pads for electronic kits bounce the pedal back at you faster and more consistently (hence, "unnatural rebound") than any bassdrum ever has. I have been siding with triggers this whole time..... Soo.... Yeah. You may want to um.... read all of people's comments before you jump in and start insulting things they didnt even say.
I kind of use the swivel now. I need to put up a new video because this is not my settings or technique anymore. I'm also using the trick beaters again too. I'll try to get a new vid up in a month or two.
the demon drive sucks? its basically a trick or axis pedal, only perfected with smoother bearings and all.
oh and tardsnake, your left foot tectique is not too good, you should change it a bit, you lift your foot from the pedal when using the hi-hat pedal, and you should move your foot to the front on the left bassdrum pedal
B4assB, you seem to know nothing about drumming, especially telling him to move his foot to the front of the pedal. First of all, everyone plays differently and no one style is correct. Secondly, the further back your foot is on a pedal, the quicker you can kick again because the pedal doesn't have to travel as far.
traq you seem to know nothing about physics. the arm distance to the joint is shorter when you move closer to the joint (wich is the bottom end of the pedal. it will require far more strenght. it will probably be somewhat easyer to kick, though much less accurate since you don't have control over the footboard/beater as much. i don't believe i'm as fast as him, but on the very fast part some better technique could help improve this guy
You are a fucking moron. Try learning how to speak properly before explaining your flawed advice. Even someone without any knowledge of physics would be able to tell that playing at the base of the pedal increases speed. You telling a metal drummer to move his foot to the top of the pedal is one of the dumbest things I've read in a while. A small burst of energy at the base will cause the beater to strike, giving your foot a moment to recover and kick again as the pedal comes back.

hey is the fact that the right beater is dead center and the other isnt a problem while playing? like does it feel like bad or something? cuz i wanna buy this but im not sure because of that
danieljordison0793 1 year ago
@danieljordison0793 Well they do sound and feel different but I don't think it is a huge problem. Axis is the same way. I've thought about getting another bass drum, that would definately fix the problem. I don't think it hinders my playing though.

is that a superkick 1 or 2? it sounds great, whats the reso and any muffling inside the bass? nice playing.
DxMMalice 1 year ago
@DxMMalice that's a super kick 2, I think I had one pillow in there at the time and for reso I honestly don't remember, it is a remo black with a hole pre cut. Oh yeah it came with some some foam rings too.
Tardsnake 1 year ago
@Tardsnake Thanks for the reply bro, nice derek roddy foot work :)
DxMMalice 1 year ago
you'd play a lot faster if you didnt have your coming back all the fucking way to practically behind your leg when you arent hitting the batter head...Lol. Just saying. Maybe it's just a pet peeve of mine, but it's also a fact.
mintymohawk 1 year ago
@mintymohawk This wasn't intended for speed, just a demo that I made well over a year ago and I have completely changed my settings and technique. Why not have them come back that far? I'm not a wimp nigga. Look at george kollias' settings... not for the weak.
Tardsnake 1 year ago
are they nice? i want a pedal for speed except most stores don't carry pedals like axis or trick.
metaldrummer4444 1 year ago
one beater is at the center of the head, the other one is very off, you got the same prob?
Summoniac 1 year ago
@Summoniac yeah dude it's the same with axis. The right beater is dead center and the left is pretty left. That's why I was hoping they made them like my old eliminators, where they are both centered really well.
Tardsnake 1 year ago
How much did they cost?? i like them ;D nice skillz dude! keep up the metal \m/ barefoot is the way to play ;P

Hey I wanna buy a direct drive and I think I'll go with axis, but I hear they break a lot (exactly how that looks, I'm not sure) so would you say it's worth going straight to these?
Also the Pearl Demon Drive looks cool, but also looks like it's the heaviest of the bunch which I'm afraid may make them slower than the others...
strappinggermanlad 1 year ago
Axis do feel better to me, but mine broke in several places, and was time to get rid of them. I've played demons at guitar center, but the settings were so jacked off that i couldn't tell if they were any good.
I bought these without even trying them and I think they are awesome, takes time to find the right settings though.
Tardsnake 1 year ago
@strappinggermanlad There lighter then my iron cobras XD
boob1000 1 year ago
@strappinggermanlad my buddy bought the demon drive. worst desicion of his life. they're VERY expensive and they're soooo light that it's not like anything is under your feet so you feel as though you have no gripping cuz there's no presser on your foot when you press down. just go with axis or trick

Obviously that takes practice but would you say that sorta thing is more difficult on another pedal?
rmccarthy 2 years ago
I went through a phase where i just kept buying new pedals to try them out and just returned them if i didn't like them. I decided to keep these after having eliminators, cobras, and axis. The adjustment on these are infinite, you can make them feel almost like any pedal but takes patience to find the right feel. I sometimes feel like i should go back to axis because i felt more speed and a little more comfort with them, but the adjustments on axis were horseshit and I had parts break on me.
Tardsnake 2 years ago
this sounds like a hell of a pedal. I noticed in the video that the boards went very low to the floor when the were using them. is that an adjustment? making the footboards go lower so you get more impact? I like how this pedal has a bar as opposed to a chain.
rmccarthy 2 years ago
Yes the lower the pedal gets the heavier the feel and more power.
Tardsnake 2 years ago
@Tardsnake yeah i have axis (just bought myself some pearl demon drives tho. Axis have a nice feel. but to make any alteration is a HUGE effort especially with the shitty allan keys!

trick or axis?

LHondrums 2 years ago

Sp00ksintheattic 2 years ago
And to the dude with the comment about triggered drums not sounding natural
Mics and triggers, and using the sample of your own bass drum you won't find a sweeter or more "natural" setup. I guarantee if I did a blind sound test with all you moron's you would all ay the triggered sounds way better. I've played many shows with this setup and every drummer there always comes up to me and asks me how I get that sound cuz it's the best sounding bass drum they've ever heard. Take that suckas!
notzj1701 2 years ago
hahaha, you didn't even half think trough that comment did you its basically "fuck you, i don't know shit about drumming, i never played a gig and swear a lot!" natural bassdrum sounds better. it does, thats why it exsists, if everyone thought triggered would be better, there wouldn't be real bassdrums now would there. stop lieing too.
take that "sucka" (sorry i only speak english. not moron slang)

Brucifer6sixsicks 2 years ago
i wear size 15, lol.
Drunkwraith 2 years ago
of course. but in that case i don't think the bass should be fast, because the bassdrum isn't usually the part of drums that gives the rythm. this usually is the hi-hat. (or ride or crash etc). though the double bass is tied to some sorts of music. and agreed: you gotta trigger that, but still, you gotta have your basics straight too. i think we are both sort of right here
B4ssB 2 years ago
Indeed... Stylistic differences. :]
Thumbs up.
ThaDeeStylee 2 years ago
I can't stand bass triggers... it makes it so you don't have to work hard at all to play upwards of 200bpm and get a decent sound...
In my band, the fastest I play is 16th notes at around 270, and I don't use triggers.
Sure it's not quite as loud as when I am playing slower, but it's loud enough to be heard with a full band. Lucky for me it's at the end of the song, because I need a good rest after something like that...

Nameless164 2 years ago 7
Oh yeah, well I got a bigger dick than all of yall. And just for the record you guys who are all bashing triggers on bass drums are all fucking retards, and you, B4ssB, are the biggest one of all. First off, to the dude with the ignorant ass comment about not having to work hard to play faster than 200 bpm thats only the case if your triggering a pad, and if that is the case than it really has nothing to do with the trigger anyways, does it?
notzj1701 2 years ago
sure, if you trigger its a whole different story, you can hit it with every piece of material you want. as long as the batter resonates. but pedals nowadays are state-of-the art balanced between the force you have to give and the force the beater will apply to the batter
B4ssB 2 years ago
if what you say is true there would be no reason to even make boards exept the bottom part. yes triggers is a whole different story, you need no force at all. but with miced/real life drumming force is a huge factor. i drum a show now and then, and i find its very inportant to balance out the force of the beater (i don't play triggered) and where/how you use your force on the pedal. tecnique is one of the biggest factors in drumming. it has to be optimal to play a long show.
B4ssB 2 years ago
If you play extreme metal and you do 32nd note doublebass live.... you need triggers. period. the bass drums will not be loud enough. Not even the loudest bass drums coupled with the hardest hits you can do above 200bpm will be enough to use mics alone.
If Derek fucking Roddy can't do it.... it cannot be done yet. We havent made a loud enough bass drum to make it possible. I dont care who argues what... people who have tried, know.
ThaDeeStylee 2 years ago
k,
some people just don't like triggers. i for example prefer natural sound.
yeah if you want triggers i don't stop you. its just dissapointing to buy a 600 dollar pedal and a actual bassdrum if you could have aswell bought some pads. and 2 single pedals that are evenly fast.. saves you money too
B4ssB 2 years ago
ThaDeeStylee 2 years ago
there are a lot of pads that are made to and succeed in that pretty well. and since you can't cheat in music, you could aswell bought some dualist pedals. you won't get much faster. though i don't care about fast play. i care about accurate and solid play with good technique
B4ssB 2 years ago 2
True, all good drummers are more focused on being concise than fast or showy... but some music simply calls for fast playing. If you and your guitarists are already playing fast and the part calls for 32nd notes.... you pretty much have to man up and go fast. Thats where speed and technique tie into each other.
ThaDeeStylee 2 years ago
Changing the sound of a drum, even if it's an electronic kit isn't cheating. That's like saying drummers can ONLY play on traditional drums and if they don't sound exactly like a regular drum kit, it's cheating. Grow a fukin brain son, ANYTHING you can pound on in a rhythmic pattern that makes a noise can be a drum. Only stupid dumbasses think accoustic kit drummers are the only drummers that don't cheat. Oh, and i like Roddy's approach too.
obagysan 2 years ago
I was referring to the fact that SOME trigger pads for electronic kits bounce the pedal back at you faster and more consistently (hence, "unnatural rebound") than any bassdrum ever has. I have been siding with triggers this whole time..... Soo.... Yeah. You may want to um.... read all of people's comments before you jump in and start insulting things they didnt even say.
S'all good...
Derek rules. :]

i feel bad. my pearl eliminator demon drive video has more views than this even though it sucks balls.
IDrumCrapish 2 years ago
the demon drive sucks? its basically a trick or axis pedal, only perfected with smoother bearings and all.
oh and tardsnake, your left foot tectique is not too good, you should change it a bit, you lift your foot from the pedal when using the hi-hat pedal, and you should move your foot to the front on the left bassdrum pedal
B4ssB 2 years ago
B4assB, you seem to know nothing about drumming, especially telling him to move his foot to the front of the pedal. First of all, everyone plays differently and no one style is correct. Secondly, the further back your foot is on a pedal, the quicker you can kick again because the pedal doesn't have to travel as far.
Straq 2 years ago
traq you seem to know nothing about physics. the arm distance to the joint is shorter when you move closer to the joint (wich is the bottom end of the pedal. it will require far more strenght. it will probably be somewhat easyer to kick, though much less accurate since you don't have control over the footboard/beater as much. i don't believe i'm as fast as him, but on the very fast part some better technique could help improve this guy
i'm just trying to help
B4ssB 2 years ago
You are a fucking moron. Try learning how to speak properly before explaining your flawed advice. Even someone without any knowledge of physics would be able to tell that playing at the base of the pedal increases speed. You telling a metal drummer to move his foot to the top of the pedal is one of the dumbest things I've read in a while. A small burst of energy at the base will cause the beater to strike, giving your foot a moment to recover and kick again as the pedal comes back.
Straq 2 years ago
