No Dude, he's a sex offender...Spent time up in Chino for exposing himself to an 8 year old...Had to go door to door and tell everyone he was a pedderass...
sad ending. this show inspired both my love of classical music( i listened through the cooking to hear the closing music) and as a result , my love of cooking.
@TheLongFlight Yes, that was HIS definition, but his executions didn't really reflect that. His dishes were prepared like any other TV chef, with pre-measured amounts set out for him, so how would he be demonstrating "frugality"? it's not like he was butchering hogs on screen or something. His recipes simply didn't demonstrate his point very well. He made a lot of gourmet stuff with expensive ingredients, period.
Great show, but he never did justify the "Frugal" part.
He would say; "It's not extravagant to use a small amount of a luxurious ingredient, or if you get a lot of servings out of an expensive recipe. But then he'd use massive amounts of something expensive no one would ever have in their pantry, or he'd make something with loads of many high end ingredients that only made an appetizer.
He was rarely if ever, "frugal". But it was entertaining.
LOVE this song! I was actually just listening to it on a CD, which is what prompted me to look up the Frugal Gourmet,. It was such a happy memory hearing that music as a kid every time his show would come on! :)
Yeah, it's from Handel's "Water Music." I love it too! My first memory of listening to it was on this show. I also remember watching this from when I was so young. Alas... I miss the 90s.
Ah...this was one of my first cooking shows I saw on channel 11 in Chicago. Followed by Yen Can Cook. I really do enjoy cooking shows for some reason. As a side note, I also enjoy carpentry shows like This Old House or The New Yankee Workshop yet I would never touch a hammer and nail. LOL.
This was my favorite show when I was a kid. It was on right before or after sesame street and I loved it. I really do credit The Frugal Gourmet for my initial interest in food/cooking.

I guess he liked to get it cooking with little wieners sometimes.

Channel 11 rules...although WGBH can give it a run for its money in terms of which PBS station is the best in the country.

I actually have one of his books, classic stuff. So sad about his scandal and all, but his shows were awesome. Always the great ones have issues!
