  • That should read - school - i did pass English

  • I was 15/16 (28 years ago) and we read the book at school - part of our English exam - we convinced the teacher to hire the video which he did - watching this brought back such good memories from my time at Glenwood High Scool, Durban South Africa

  • Lost it, now i have it back... ♥ I loved this movie: Watership down, with the rabbits and other animals ♥ when i was a young girl ☻

    Sad but beautiful!! ♥♥

  • What I want to know is how Al sang this without bursting into tears?Wonder how many takes before he got it without a hitch?

  • if you actually care and read all of this, then thank you.

i work my butt off 2 make it in the youtube biz, but its impossible 2 make it if noone

ever hears you, and its hard to get people to hear you when you have no

exposure....i dont have the money for amazing music videos or big youtube

advertisements....so all im left with is spam.

if you could take two seconds to give me a thumbs up just so people know i

exist.... you dont have to like me, just gimme a chance to be liked

  • Wow this was number one in the UK charts when I was born..damn I feel old lol

  • A guy at my school died last week and we didn't hear about it until today. This song is the song I think about when people die young. "How could a light that burned so brightly suddenly burn so pale?"

  • My favorite film of all time, beautiful.

  • I remember this from my childhood, makes me cry and I am a 40 years old man!

Now I show my childeren this video, they dont understand the language but like the sound.

  • All of you people using emoticons to express your sadness to a bunch of strangers over the internet make me sick!

  • @JivemasterJ X0~~#

Does that come close? I dunno, I'm not too hot at these things, but I kinda think that looks a little like you being sick? lol ;D

Anyway, if bitching at strangers makes up for the fact that you cried too, like the rest of us, then whatever dude.

  • still a sad sad film...... watched this at the odeon leicester square back in 1978 when it came out .... the worlds changed a lot but its still a classic film

  • Did this film and others like it make a depressed generation? I'm sure this film left me with a permanent lack of hope.and despair. Ah well, at least this generation will stab and shoot us all out of our life long dip......see?

  • @bigbeef30 You've been depressed your whole life because of a cartoon? It really wasn't that bad...

  • My memories of this film are that it's dull and horribly animated. It carries a sense of gloom and foreboding, a truly sinister time in children's film making. Thank god today's kids don't have to sit through such gloomy depressing movies.

  • @MikeyHNCC1701D wtf these where the best types of films now they are all horrible cgi which looks shit you are obviously 7 years old you have no memory of this film back then it was a good film go look look at those vids on youtube that gets you high looks thats what the new cgi looks like

  • @deadalus1000 No, I'm 31. And this film is horrible, I hated it as a child.

  • @MikeyHNCC1701D I loved this film as a little girl. Just different tastes I guess.

  • @MikeyHNCC1701D This isn't for kids, and I always thought the animation was very realistic...

  • @MikeyHNCC1701D i like it because it shows the danger in real world. not everything is sunshine and rainbows, we want it to be, but it isnt, and this isnt neccisarily a childerens movie, its just animated, not all animations are for kids, and you say poorly animated, however, are you aware that this is an older movie?

  • @kuronekochan44 If you read my previous comment correctly you would know that I'm 31 and watched the film as a child. So surely that makes me aware that this is an old film. I didn't like it as a child so I don't like it now based on my memories of the film.

  • This was #1 in the UK chart on the day I was born.

  • I was going to say something, then after listening to this for a little bit, I forgot what I was going to comment about...

  • this is sooo where my heart is :(

  • this movie is fucking amazing on 2c-i

  • quite possibly the saddest song ever made :((

  • i used to cry whilst i watched this show... i thought it was scary :l

  • I just cried my eyes out...:'(

  • I'm not ashamed to say that this song makes me feel like crying every time I hear it (and I'm a 28 year-old man).

    It's just a beautiful song.

The closest to perfection you can get.

  • Fantastico

  • ... a song for the days when the soul hurts for no conceivable reason.....

  • this video always makes me cry :-(

  • I used tu love this film

  • Conor?

  • MY GOD this song makes me cry everytime without fail! Xander <3 best bunny to have ever lived. xxx

  • Simply the best story and song of all time.

  • Im not crying......

    :'(

My memory of this film is; me and my mother recorded it off of TV while we went on a walk through the fields near where we lived... I was only 5 or 6 at the time. We watched this when we got back in. It all stuck with me ever since... the old house we lived in, the autumn trees and hedges and fields... I can't explain it but it carries a certain feeling with it.

  • @anessenator Nostalgia can be a very powerful emotion to hold, though not one to be neither ashamed nor embarrased about, all people go through the same, just each have their own tick to their experiences.

  • for those that have eyes to see...fly onwards and upwards, further up and further in...or something like that, told by Aslan the lion, aka Jesus metaphor in the "narnia" books by C.S. Lewis, good1

  • happy and sad at the same time...end of an old life, beginning of a new, in which Jesus will truly set them free, my pet rabbit flopsy was part of my old life. neo me is free to fly in this life

  • Always loved this...beautiful to watch and hear, they are free :)

  • @harihari1993 The same here a loot of childhood memories,it is not a movie for little/young children, still i saw it when i whas 6 and it's not a movie whit a happy story, but the song is great and i love it too but it also give's me goosebumbs and a tear in my eyes becouse i have heard this song at a few funerals, and then i think about those friends and family i lost, for me it is a mix of emtions when i hear this song. Please dont look at my English,i speak it much better,i'm Dutch.

    Damn you, rabies.

  • Waiting to hear a Canadian break in, fire shots into me, and scream, "NO! I UNDERSTAND THIS", then demand an explanation for the report he'll deny exists.

  • I feel like i have to cry ..

  • Don't fucking cry... :(

  • wow like that song

  • Such a beautiful and powerful song, I find the best part is from 0:25 to 1:15 the bright eyes chorus part is fine, but alomst sounds cheesy? No thats not the right word, but it's just not as nice as the other parts. Thanks for uploading this, it's very nice.

  • ahw, even if i don't really listen to the lyrics I still get sad :(

Really have to read the book! ♥

  • book never gets old

  • I first heard this at a school party, when I was about ten. It was this video, and everyone was couple dancing and stuff, and all I could think about was the poor bunny that died. :c

I'm now reading the book, and it's one of my favs already :3

  • Wow. I can hardly even remember the story, yet the cover of the book, a clip of the movie and hearing the song bring back such a sense of grief all these years later. Crazy.

  • I also remember watching this and holding my rabbit very tightly saying "dont worry cassie, i wont let him get you" aww me lol :-)

  • great comment Stoned Marmaduke ! lol. can't think of this song/video without thinking about crying, and i'm def not normally the type to do so at this kind of thing. !! i think this song could make a "glass eye" cry !. powerful stuff

    keep loving it. <3

  • @jasperklapwijk dont worry m8,its a song and movie for all,and yes i cried to and im 42,if you have a heart and love animals this is always going to make you cry i know it does me,and by the way your english is good,,,

  • @jasperklapwijk I'm American and your English is better than mine :)

  • @rangers94ism Iff you say so,i think that you can write English better then me,i can speak English perfect, the same with German and French and some Spanish,i can speak it,but can't write it like i talk it,but still, thank you.But what do you think about the movie and the song,im 40 know and it still gives me goosebumbs and a tear in my eyes. When i leave the army,i whas a bouncer, and when this song came on the other bouncers looked at me with disbelieve becouse there where the tears!

  • @jasperklapwijk What do I think of this movie? It's one of the greatest cartoon films of all time. This is a great struggle for freedom film. As for the song, it is hard for me to listen to this song and not have a tear. Art Garfunkel was amazing singing this song.

  • i remember watching this when i was a young

  • I always thought it was the SONG that hit me, but after listening to it without watching the vid did not move me one bit. Seeing the animation alongside it, I had to pause it (crying at work is crossing the line for me ;-) ). I guess the combination is what makes it so powerful - that and the context of the circumstances of the song in the film. Simply genius, all of it!

  • Every time I hear this song or see the video I think of my own dear sweet bun Baci. He's not with us in the physical sense anymore but still lives on in my heart.

  • Jumping in here...

Myself, I prefer Fox Amoore's version myself.

"His" singer has an amazing voice which I absolutely love.

    Have a listen

    furaffinity[dot]net/view/4447244/

  • @Volcker77 got to disagree with you there, I'd say Garfunkel's got the best version of it, maybe that's just because he did it first and originals tend to have an edge over covers. Listen to Joe McManners' version, thats worth a listen

  • Better rather. My bad

  • Declan Galbraith does this song so much bettte

  • Wait a sec! That's not Conner Oberst?!

  • That is a beautiful song makes me cry every time :') xx

  • What the fuck.

  • xxxxxx JACK xxxxxx

  • o there aren't enough words to discribe how beautifull the movie is and the song is so beautifull and sad at the same time i never had the change to read the book but some day i will have it at my home

  • If you consider yourself as someone that loves animals, especially ones with Fur then you will love this movie.

    Watch Earthlings movie.

    Earthlingsdotcom

  • Truly beautiful I'm about to read the book its in my hand :).

  • its the song that makes me tearful and im 38 luv the film as well

  • not so much this film or the story (though i do believe they're great) but it is this song that makes me cry everytime i hear it, and i'm nearly 18!!!

  • To the eyes and ears of a gypsy.

  • I was only 8 years old when I first saw the film & heard this song.

Due to it also being my formative years, this film profoundly etched itself into me with its haunting imagery and meaning.

  • @xoio Me too, and it still scares the shit out of me, what with all the animal traps and the death bunny!

  • My 1st conception of what happens after u die.. Watership Down went a long way to making me comprehend that notion! Amazing song

  • OH MY GOD! I forgot how blimmin sad this one is!! I can't stop crying!! aaargh

  • R.I.P. Hazel Ra... we will miss you.

  • Watership down was the first book I cried at.

Bright eyes was the first song I cried at.

Just one story made me have to use about a whole tissue box ;(

  • I was properly terrified of that general rabbit guy...I had a major nightmare and refused to sleep until I eventually conked out on the kitchen floor...Embarassing.

  • so sick of all these stupid ads
