The Canada Health Act Discriminates Against Injured
Workers By Excluding Them From "Access To Health Services Without Financial Or Other Barriers" By Excluding "Any Health Services That A Person Is Entitled To And Eligible For Under Any Act Of The legislature Of A Province That Relates To Workers' Or Workmen's Compensation" And That This Leaves Injured Workers Vulnerable To Wrongdoing By The Workers Compensation System
I graduated from Canada (now in the USA) in the mid 80s and things were good. But it was apparent that forward planning after the baby boom retirement would be critical. That would have meant early investment (always cheaper) by increasing the size of medical schools thus graduating more qualified doctors. Now, in an economic downturn everything is more difficult and expensive including quick fixes like hiring from abroad, which never addresses the problem.
I live in a small community in Alberta, Canada and when I moved here I found a doctor right away and when he moved away I found another right away. I am not doubting that it is hard to fins doctors in rural areas but I believe this to be the same in the States as well. Doctors would rather work in urban centers.
hahah who the fuck made the documentary, the english conservative people agasint the health bill or some american insurance compagny??? dude im form canada born live here all my life, even if we wait a few hour when your only sick for a small thing doesnt bother me, if your reall hurt we treat you in no time doesnt cost you a fucking cents.... stupid american get a fuckign life
As an American, most of my comments pertains to all 6 segments of this video combined, it seems odd I am preached to in my own country that Canadian government runs healthcare and that is why it is so bad. It sounds like there is too little government coordinating the system which seems to be mostly open to market forces determining availability. The video actually seems to advocate more government involvement. I marvel at the civility and simplicity of one provincial plan covering everyone.
Lady in video says there are no Doctors accepting new patients in Chatham Ontario....sniff sniff I smell BS. Dr. Allen, Angelita Rivera, Dr. Barral, Myrlinda Villarivera, Dr. Bernreuter, Raymond Charles, Dr. Boekhoud, Johannes Willem Frederik Gerret, Dr. Cameron, Robert Stewart, Dr. Clowater, Julie Lee, Dr. Dajczak, Stanislaw Peter, Dr. Depass, Ian Egbert, Dr. Dixon, Anthony Richard, Dr. Evans, David, Dr. Fraser, Grant Robert Ian, Dr. Galbraith, Jack Walker
@SparwoodApple Yeah I'm smelling plenty of BS from this video as well.
Seems like a typical PR piece by insurance industry to con people into spending more and getting less as is the case in the US.
Even if I believed the 5 million number (which I dont), try nearly 50 million in the US who not only dont have a family doctor but dont have healthcare period! Who if they get sick or injured can lose their savings, retirement, home and their life thanks to the private insurance industry.
I am a fierce advocate of single payer but this video has it's merits. Some places in Canada do have long waiting lines and few doctors. Partly because they can get rich here in the US but this is solvable while keeping single payer. However we as progressives can't ignore problems like this.
@Navywxman F.Y.I. maybe you should keep your comments to yourself if you can't get the facts straight...One of the ladies in this video is my aunt, it's real, not just a "PR" piece as you put it.
I totally agree with you.. BS. 9/10 canadians have a regular family physician they see.. the remaining 1/10 either choose not to (prefer the walk-in clinic), don't do enough research, or (in the rare case of smaller towns in the east), there aren't enough doctors. So the problem isn't universalized health care.. the problem is keeping more docs in the country ..I would even advocate opening more seats in med schools. I've heard our med selection process is more stringent here
Exactly - they have taken situation and try to portray it as this is how it is across the country. I honestly have no problem with what health care system the US has, but the political right in the US resorts to cannibalizing their friendships abroad. If their position is really that strong, then why do they have to resort to such low tactics
Video is a crock of shit. In Toronto, in a province where the DR shortage is the worst - just in 1 of several regions of the city there are over 80 family Drs taking on new patients. Press Ganey surveyed US hospitals and found the average ER wait time to be 250ish minutes - CIHI confirmed that 90% of Canadian ER patients wait this time or lower. Furthermore the video indicates there is so few doctors in Canada in comparison to the US - ......continued
This is no longer correct as in 2007 according to the OECD Canada has overtaken the US in number of GP's and is closing in on the # of Specialist. Canada actually has more family Doctors than the US per capita. Also note the US ranks near the bottom of the OECD for # of Dr's.....far below average. If anything a US style system results in less Doctors, not more
More doctors have been moving to Canada since 2003ish than the other way around that is a fact. According to the OECD Canada has now overtaken the US in number of practicing GP's. Call me a troll, sorry to hear that you hate the truth
northpal2 continued...... Instead they allow the problem to continue so that they can say the system doesn't work and they can bring in the private companies and the big fat bonuses they recieve don't believe me watch the part on SICKO when Bill Clinton attempted to reform health and watch the big money fly to those who could have made there peoples lives better, but that is if you dare watch a doc. that shows the health field for what it really is. Someone getting rich off of someones illness.

the problem is not socialized medicine, it's the will of government to fund it properly and structure it correctly. I'm so sick of hearing it's because it's socialized medicine. It ISN'T. This decline started because the Liberals rolled over to the IMF demands in the 90s and started gutting the system. Americans need to do some research before they make an assesment of why things are the way they are here.
Some people may not have liked your post, but I think you got a point. If Canada's health problem is really this bad, why haven't we heard about anyone complaining to their govt about this matter? Shouldn't they be pushing their govt to do something?
But at the same time, I don't exactly trust our govt not to make the same mistake. I wouldn't mind paying for health care...it's just too expensive for me to afford the way it is.

Your right! Canada's system is great, and allows for everyone to recieve universal healthcare. Unlike the amercian system, where the poor slip through the cracks from the greedy insurance companies.
You obviously do not live in Canada or never had a serious condition. I have experienced it. I like so many finally had to go to Buffalo to see a decent physcian. In Buffalo I finally got to see a competent doctor, a Canadian who left Canada, disgusted with the system and the way it hindered his ability ti treat patients.
But the fact is they do leave, and Canadians go to the US for better care.
Not one of your politicians use the system, they have private insurance. Remember the big row when then prime minister Paul Martin had his physical check up at a private clinic in Montreal.
It was later revealed, the clinic's patients are major CEO's and government officials.
Rather than pumping up your patriotism, check it out.
How can you say my statement is "pumping up my patriotism"? When I visited the US in Jan I was bombarded with patriotic messaging in the magazines in the movie theatres. That is you know is there choice to go the US for faster care but it puts the US people on the outs if they cannot pay. If the major CEO's and important gov't officials had half of my patriotism things would be better and this talk of private health would be a dead issue.
that wasn't meant as an insult, you should and probably are proud of your country. But we all get trapped in that nationalism, patriotism when the owners want to blind us for that second they switch the pea under the other shell.
I apologize if you were offended, I had no intentions offending you.
Tommy Douglas once said "Medicine is expensive no matter what way you pay for it and it won't get any cheaper if you tack on extra charges and extra billing." That state should also have the removal of the insurance companies that bill the health plan. Get back to the doctor submitting the bill to the health plan as it was set up to happen in the 60's. How could adding another layer of people to pay make things cheaper?
You think it's better to pay $1800/mo for health insurance (yes, I know someone who pays this much) when I pay $54/mo for the similar coverage (actually better because I'm not restricted to certain Drs or hospitals and don't need pre-approvals or any of that crap) except my coverage can never be cancelled for any reason.
YES Canada's health care system isn't perfect, infact it is a ticking time bomb! BUT Atleast that girl and the other person's baby wont be turned away because they can't pay. YES if you can pay American's system is MUCH MUCH better. But if you can't pay well then there is NOTHING you can do. ..... Canada just needs more Doctors. (A LOT more... prepherably before the last of the baby boomers retire, grow old, and probably need the healthcare system a lot more.)
Even if you can pay, infact the American health care system isn't any better. This video is outdated, and right now 2009, Canada's healthcare system works excellently.
American health care system is fare worse in so many ways ...If anything it is the Conservatives ...like or republicans that have been throwing wrenches into health care Seems the right makes a mess of things no matter what country there in
Socialists all believe it's 'the will of the government' to rule the citizens from cradle to grave. Socialists think all they have to do is throw money at every problem until its buried in worthless (inflated) money.
Canadian doctors are like license bureau workers--just going thru the motions for a paycheck.
Socialism has always failed wherever its been tried. Its the government of the hopeless.
Perhaps if your great right wing governments would have atleast attempted to help the people then we would not need socialist governments and the reason they get voted out is because they have improved the lives of the people and they would like to see what another party is going to do and then they turn back to socialism. Just like in the US when economic times are tough the Democrats are voted in, when the world is out to get us the Republicans are voted in.
Government does NOT pay for preventative services like CT Scans - Medicaid doesn't pay for that. But, the government FORCES treatment (not cure) procedures. In many (most) cases, both the preventative and cure solutions are either NOT covered, or are covered at a FRACTION of the cost of providing the service. The formula is in the treatment - JUST like a drug dealer. Keep them coming back and we'll reimburse you. It's CRIMINAL.
A person goes to medical school and incurs hundreds-of-thousands in student loans. They graduate, do their residency, pass the board, and then get reimbursed $.27 cents on the dollar for Medicaid procedures performed. People say "yeah, but the are making $200,000 in salary". Yeah, and they owe that much in student loans. They strike out in a private practice and hire a couple employees. Guess what - same thing. Only now, they have payroll & pay hundreds of thousands in malpractice insurance.
This is what socialized care will undoubtedly bring to the table. I can't for the life of me understand why people here are so blind to the probelms of universal care. My heart goes out to these innocent people, may we not make the same mistake. Still, CNN/Fox/MSNBC wont cover programs like this, they go against the rising socialist tide of American "progress".

Hey Canadians... Please consider health tourism in eastern countries...
Only if a lot of people do this, then the Govt. will be forced to come to terms with the reality!!!
I am not trying to influence you! You do the research and you go where you want to go.
Only then you will know how good Canada is and also HOW dumb some important really are!!!
Mind that the Canadian DOLLAR is growing strong everyday!!!

watch the part on SICKO when Bill Clinton attempted to reform health
That was a movie nothing more.
Reforming health care and the (BEAST) FED running health care are two completely different proposals.
Research Nixon health care reforms
that allowed the lobbyists to kick in the door. The reform was to satisfy the FED skyrocketing cost, not the private sector.
That forced everyone into the HMO model.
Research the AMA and rockefeller connection. That restricted med school openings.
