O MY GOD. When are all you dumbasses gonna get it that just because D2 is usually mediocre doesn't mean that they can't have some really good teams. Appalachian state has won their national title 3 times in a row. And obviously they were a better team than Michigan last year. And the only reason we are the first team to be ranked and lose to a D2 team is becasue App St. from 05-07 is the best D2 team ever and coulda beat any D1 team that they had scheduled to play which happened to be Michigan.
App State is not a Division II school, IUP is a Division II school. Appalachian State is Division I-AA, which is still Division I. And they won their national championship (Valdosta State won the actual D2 National Championship). And actually, Michigan was #3 in the conference, not #2. But still, this "crappy" Michigan team went and trounced a good Florida team, who was ranked #9 at the time. Does that mean Florida sucks, NO! It just means App State was good, and Michigan was a little cocky.

i was @ the psu game and we just came from r seats when we stopped @ the tvs along the way to c that the mich./appal.game was close @ each tv a WHOLE LOT of psu fans gatherd and we all together watch the ending that was the cherry n top of a great day@ beaver stadium(i love opening weekend..haha) and well by the end of the game and the whole way to the parking lot all u hear was.."we are....appalachian state" it was the best!!

Poor Michigan's pride was pretty well crushed that day and I just get the feeling that they don't have the same amount of pride comming into this season that they usually do.

O MY GOD. When are all you dumbasses gonna get it that just because D2 is usually mediocre doesn't mean that they can't have some really good teams. Appalachian state has won their national title 3 times in a row. And obviously they were a better team than Michigan last year. And the only reason we are the first team to be ranked and lose to a D2 team is becasue App St. from 05-07 is the best D2 team ever and coulda beat any D1 team that they had scheduled to play which happened to be Michigan.

App State is not a Division II school, IUP is a Division II school. Appalachian State is Division I-AA, which is still Division I. And they won their national championship (Valdosta State won the actual D2 National Championship). And actually, Michigan was #3 in the conference, not #2. But still, this "crappy" Michigan team went and trounced a good Florida team, who was ranked #9 at the time. Does that mean Florida sucks, NO! It just means App State was good, and Michigan was a little cocky.

Because it's a rivalry, genius. Although, really, considering OSU has owned Michigan's asses so thoroughly the past several years, I'm thinking we may need to start considering Wisconsin our new rival. They've been more difficult to beat than Michigan lately.

First of all, App State is ALREADY Division one.
Secondly, our enrollement is 15,000. You were actually close on that one, but still wrong.
The official capacity of our stadium will be around 22,000 this coming year, though we should be able to pack in 30k+. That will be more than TWICE the NCAA attendance criteria for I-A.
50,000? You think Duke puts 50,000 fans in the stands? We out-draw almost half of D I-A already.
...oh, and schools don't buy into conferences, either.

ASU enrollment is 13,000 SMALL, Stadium capacity of 30,000 with an expansion underway SMALL again by any standard. I believe the min. standard for DIV-I is 50,000? Not sure.
Then ASU has to buy into a DIV-I conference 3-5 million dollars? Most likely Conference USA in 5-10 years. We hope.
You should try supporting your local community college were you actually attended.

Thanks man, as you can tell I am a Michigan State fan. The spartans are heading in the right direction. MSU and OSU are going to battle for Big Ten titles. I don't care if MSU comes in second to OSU every time because I have a lot of respect for Tressell. He knows how to kick scUM's ass!!! Dantonio is going to do it too. Can't wait for the 2008 season to begin!!!
PS Back in '91 and '92 when MSU lost to Central, at least CMU is a Div. 1 school and not a subdivision 1AA.
