@zillahero Unfortunately most of the Black people in those days, didn't have the same opportunities, or the open doors that the White people had access to so what you state in your comment is a sad commentary of those days, but none the less they were the days in which I grew up during the Great Depression.

I saw the Miller band, but after Miller was lost over the English Channel in WW11...I was fortunate to see most of the big bands....Duke Ellington, Tommy & Jimmy Dorsey, Les Brown, Louis Armstrong and others and like many other folks my age, we too miss the good 'ol days, and before TV, my folks,my brother and I , would sit around the our old table top "Philco" radio and listen to the regular shows and "The Hit Parade" on Saturday evenings, and some of the "Live" radio shows from New York...

He did as much for morale during WW2 as any stirring speech by any politition. He assembled great musicians and gave them great arrangements of great songs. Folks may be interested to know that during and after the war, the BBC in the UK used to play a version of this regularly. It was recorded by the BBC here in Britain whilst Glenn was over here. During the recording session there was an air raid warning and in the background can be heard the faint sound of air raid sirens and the rumble of aircraft. Apparently, this was not special sound effects, but a genuine raid taking place. Instead of re-recording the session they kept it in for atmosphere.

@TheBritish - miller & goodman are among some of the best artists in a genre commonly known as "swing". There are SO many greats, it's hard to know where to start. Tommy Dorsey, Artie Shaw, Jimmy Dorsey, Charlie Barnet, Duke Ellington, Count Basie...I could go on for days, but there's a good start for ya ;)
